Harmony is still being made, a lot of their stuff now is hub based. It's great because it removes the need for line of sight with IR, but also adds bluetooth and wifi. Some models apparently support zwave, zigbee etc. They don't support the ps4 but that's up to Sony (it fully supports the PS3 and even the wii through BT).

Unfortunately the physical remotes that come with the hub are super cheap and lack screens and backlighting. But you can also use the app (meh) or add on a harmony ultimate remote, which is nice but really pricey.

I just bought a new harmony 700 for my MIL so they're still making the old style, but I highly recommend the hub ones if you can afford it.

I've been looking for a new remote too. I had the Harmony One and it went bad. Too bad because I would love to just replace it, but they don't make it anymore. I looked at their Ultimate, but I like a full sized remote with all buttons and digits. I also am not a fan of how they put the most important buttons near the top and I'm not much for dialing with touch screens (like to go by feel). So I just purchased a Harmony 700. I haven't fired it up yet but it appears to be basically like the Harmony One except without a touch screen.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the touchscreen on the ultimate, it's kind of ******. It's small and laggy and has SO MUCH inertia. The buttons next to the screen on the cheaper remotes work much better. But it's the only backlit option for the hub.

I've been looking for an alternative to the Harmony remote. They worked as advertised but I have found that their build quality is not that good. Mine is no longer working properly because of kid damage, so it's not Logitech's fault, but they do feel cheap to me, so an alternative would be very welcome.

Off the current topic but what are people doing for USB hubs on PS4. I see that Gamestop has one coming but the date keeps changing so wondered what other options that work are out there.

I don't know but I need one. Sony has an official one that extends off the front of the PS4, at least I think it was an official one.

Headset, wheel, USB drive, and keyboard which is nice for messaging, codes, etc. Plus I can't charge off my PS4 if I wanted either. So I can't chat, drive and jam tunes at the same time

Easy...
1. use it to charge your cell phone, ipod or ps4 remote
2. use it for external usb cooling fans
3. look at them as they are useless for thumb drives / external hd's

I honestly picked up the PS4 to replace my PS3. However I am not very excited other than the ps4 has little gain on graphics over the ps3. The ps3 is just a better media hub system with a better controller for playing movies. I hate using the ps4 video game controller to play my blus / dvds

I wasn't asking what the hub is for, I am wanting to know what hubs are available and are known to work with the PS4. I need more than 2 usb ports. Also in your #3 are you saying that a usb hub port won't work with my External HDD?

Well I assume you are talking about music on your hdd?

if so, that should work. I have movies that it will not read which I converted a lot of my dvds and compressed them to other format.

as for expansion hub, I would think any would work. I have a 4 port hub and it works fine. Its just a cheap $10 one I got from Frys.

If they came out with the controller only they wouldn't be able to keep them on the shelves. That's what I really want out of that whole package.

I really like the PS One theme that is now in the PS store, especially the original start up sound that is played through out the home screen. I also really like the limited edition PS4, the color-full play station logo looks really nice especially on the controller.

A ps4 remote made by Sony would be nice before the holiday's! I really hate using the controller to control my bluray movie features. Lol.

Yeah, one just like the Sony PS3 remote would be perfect. I think they promised to have something out earlier this year but still nothing. There's a third party remote on amazon but unfortunately the reviews are poor. The part that drives me nuts is when the controller is out of juice and shuts itself off and then I have to plug it in and now I'm walking back and forth to the PS4 to control my movie or navigate youtube. My wife thinks that's funny.

Does control over HDMI (such as anynet on samsung tv's) work to pause and play movies with the tv remote like it does with the ps3, I haven't tried playing a movie in the ps4 but I have navigated the menu with my tv remote and it works fine. If it works it might be a short term solution for people who can take advantage of it.

Yeah, I don't care about a console color that can't be seen, but the controller color is tight.

Yes! I beleive it needs to be enabled in Settings. I am able to pause/play/skip chapters/go back to Top Menu all using my Panasonics remote for a 2013 S60 (plasma). For those looking for other options, does the PS4 camera allow voice commands for pause/play like Kinect? That works pretty good for a lot of movie watching situations when you have to get up and use the bathroom or grab a drink or whatever. XB1 has a remote but with voice commands it doesnt really seem necessary to purchase one.
