I had planned to gift my son a digital game yesterday, which was a no-go. I was hoping they'd be up and running by now. I guess I'll have him pick one out at Gamestop when we go down that way next week.

As you get older three things happen. The first is your memory goes, and I can’t remember the other two. Crap I say <--- the unhacked version ;)

Does anybody know when the Playstation Network will be back up because me & my brother haven't been able to sign in on our ps4 since christmas eve but we can still sign in normally on our ps3. I checked the Playstation Network status on support.us.playstation.com more than once between then & now & it still says the Playstation Network is offline.

Yeah, now I'm frustrated.

Lizard Squad twitter says they stopped at 8:00pm EST yesterday and downtime is the aftermath. Well come on, how can simple DDoS attack keep equipement down? When the attack is over it's over.

Well...couple wildass guesses. Either Sony took a bunch of hardware offline and has to spool it all up or possibly some items buckled under the storm and need to be found and replaced.

Meh, went and got Lords of the Fallen to get through.

Sony shut down there servers. According to Anonymous they were getting hit with 60,000 Ddos attacks a minute . Anonymous is trying to help kill these attacks and help Sony out. FinestSquad has been taking credit for Anonymous work and Anonymous believes FinestSquad is lizard squad. FinestSquad is actually taking donations. I've been following most of this on Twitter. They could make a movie out of this stuff lol.

Question on playing PS4 with two couch players.

Hi, I'm new to gaming and just got a PS4 to play with my son. I have the following games:

Need for Speed Rivals
Lego Batman #
Lego Marvel Super Heroes
Disney Infinity

Can these games be played with two side-by-side players? I have two controllers but don't have a clue about how to play games together with my son. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I don't play any of those games but I just wanted to say...Kudos to you. Sitting on a couch side by side with another gamer is what gaming is all about...not connecting to some server and playing with someone you've never met before. I truly wish gaming would go back to that state. It was 10x more fun then. Nowadays people want to boast that they are number such n such in the world on some leaderboard. Who cares.

There should be an option for local co-op in the menues. You're better asking this in the gaming section. This is the subwoofer forum.

Why does MS seem to always recover quicker then Sony? I know hackers were to blame for this but Sony just seems to lack the knowledge and skills required to run a decent network.

I spent the money that I was going to use to buy Alien Isolation today. Bought a few more things for my daughter, which was probably a better use for it anyway. Point is, Sony lost a sale because of this, they need to get their act together.

Microsoft has an entire enterprise division dedicated to networks like Xbox Live, it is no wonder they can recover faster, they have more people tools and experience dealing with these things.

DDoS attacks aren't as simple as once done things return to normal. Damage can be done, from software being screwed up to hardware literally melting if the load is big enough. Plus, there is always the risk of a DDoS attack being a front for a true hack, like data theft. Sony is probably giving everything a once over if the attacks have truly stopped. (No proof they have, all these twitter accounts read like they are the same guy)

Also remember the network stuff in the paths leading to PSN may be wiped out as well and Sony doesn't have control of that. Microsoft also hosts its own like Pen says vs Sony outsourcing and outsourcing sucks to deal with because they may have other priorities. Sure Sony could beef things up a bit but its not their fault some aholes wanted to soil xmas.

Nothing like that. Basically a few hacker groups are fighting it out and are potentially releasing member data. No threat to us but posting some random hacker kids home address just invites trouble on many levels.

Edit: hackers are giving out other hackers info in case my explanation sucked, which it did. It's not guaranteed correct info and even if it is posting that info here probably violates tos. Basically Pen is just warning us not to put their home address in this forum. I'd agree if for no other reason than backlash.

I'm not at all surprised to see PSN is still screwed given their track record, but I was a little surprised to see it took MS as long as it did to recover. So lame though, wtf kind of hacker attacks gamers on xmas?

I know we all had our reasons for choosing the PS4, but I'm starting to wonder if I discounted exactly what MS gives you w/ a Live membership. This outage is getting a tad ridiculous.

Yes this whole episode has me doubting my choice of the PS4. When it works I like it and is plays the games fine but this outage is really annoying. I understand that the initial reason for the outage isn't Sony's fault, instead the fault of a bunch of losers with too much time on their hands, but the fact that Microsoft is back up and running so quickly makes Sony look incompetent. The more I've sat and thought of it the more I think that I miss the Xbox interface. The PS4 interface gets the job done but (probably because I spent so many years with xbox) the XBox interface feels so much more comfortable.

Sony would be wise to take this stuff extra serious. With thier hack years ago and with the whole "The Interview" debacle and hacking there they seem to be a repeated victim. It's likely a consequence of them just being the right victim. Large enough to matter but not so large like an Google or Amazon that network security would be better.

Anyone working for a large company is going to see strengthened network security in the coming years. It's probably going to get to the point of hindering ability to actually work.

Couple days off wasn't so bad. Yea it was wearing thin yesterday but I did a helluva lot of Driveclubbing, watched some of my movie backlog, and picked up a fun SP game in the process. Think I've given up on Evil Within. That was a bad digital purchase on my part since I don't play it and can't trade it. It just hasn't lit a fire at all but maybe one day I will catch a mood for it. Everything looks to be back though I haven't checked the PS4 yet.

You guys are wrong about the xbox....and the PS4. Both services had outages. If you want to be safe from d*ckhead ddosrs you need to go either WiiU or PC (Steam, etc). Seriously neither one of those platforms saw an attack. I know the whole xbone/PS4 argument but personally it just made me unplug a bit and socialize more with the wife. Glass half full I guess. Really no online service is safe and the sad reality is that this is our future, no matter which platform there will always be some ahole trying to ruin your fun. I'd like to see Microsoft and Sony get together and find those responsible. Sure Sony could beef things up, messaging still sucks but their also selling lots of boxes and each new box added to the ddos by constantly spamming logons which makes them a bit of a victim of their own success. No real point to make other than blame the fktards that caused it. PSN wouldn't need to recover from anything if these aholes had left it alone in the first place or had been rooted out and put behind bars to begin with given that they did announce this a while ago.

Every LEGO game I've played, including LEGO Marvel Superheroes, has allowed couch co-op, and in fact is a great way to play those games! I don't know anything about Disney Infinity, and I'd be surprised if an NFS racing game allowed simultaneous two-player co-op, but you can certainly take turns.

The other family friendly co-op game for PS4 worth checking out is the recently released LittleBigPlanet 3. In addition to the main story campaign, there are literally millions of user-created levels you can play together.
