MS is still going to sell plenty of consoles. They'll have a more uphill battle, but nothing worse than the PS3 did.

And after the way they phoned this in and humiliated their best customers, they're going to be forced to bring their A game. I honestly think they'll rethink their physical game policy, and they're going to be looking to win back their core. Once they start that plan, things will be great to pick one up.

Their slightly underpowered, but the hardware is still very capable. We saw the games. The problem is software and corporate policy alone, and that can be dropped and fixed much more easily.

Some hardware stats.

Controllers are $59, Camera is $59.

PlayStation®4 system × 1
Wireless Controller (DUALSHOCK®4) × 1
Mono headset × 1
AC power cord × 1
HDMI cable × 1
USB cable × 1

Phew, looks like I wont need to be sending anyone a free cable. smile.gif

Also looks like the PSU is internal, no giant power brick.

I just saw that. It also comes with a 500GB hard drive.

And it has a legacy optical output for old school audio.

I had a PS3 3 years ago, need to go see if my gamer tag is still available.

I have never stood up and cheered while watching an E3 press event before but, I did it twice tonight. Once for the no DRM (GameFly still works!) and again for the price!

I feel kinda dumb for being so happy about a new console but, is just so excited. MS deserves all the bad press they can get, any company that is willing to create a product without the consumers best interest in mind deserves the backlash.

My top 5 wanted games are Watch Dogs, Battlefield 4, Destiny, MGS V and the Oddworld game. I want SW Battlefront to but, since EA didn't even list a year, who knows when it is coming.

Guess we can't have it ALL with a 1 TB HDD :P, hopefully it's upgradeable like the PS3, will definitely do it if that's the case, I hate having externally powered HDDs and from my experience those are more prone to corrupting than internal ones.

I'm not surprised Sony has always been far better at hardware engineering than MS. They are easily one of the best electronics design and engineering firms out there, Apple literally copied their industrial sheek designs from Sony. If you've ever see and opened up Sony's compact devices like their UMPCs and have a little background in electronics you'll know exact what I'm talking about

I wonder where the discs are inserted?

The only thing that worries me about the physical design is its size. It look pretty small for a gen 1 version, I hope overheating isn't a problem. I was burnt by the RROD a few times, don't want to have to go through that again.

I wouldn't be as concerned with over heating as much as noise. To dissipate the heat properly it will have to push alot of air which will produce more noise. I would prefer not to have a loud console again like the original PS3 and 360s were.

Things to note. Publishers apparently love the PS4, as they claim they have 110 titles already lined up (not first yr of coerce)

Also like this part:

Furthermore, from SCE Worldwide Studios,
more than 30 titles, including 12 brand
new IP, are under development,

We saw 3? Wonder if their studios are doing PSN stuff too though...

I hope it isn't loud. That's one reason I sold my PS3 and bought a standalone BD player, couldn't stand hearing a vacuum cleaner while watching movies. I'm hoping the PS4 is quite, at least during BD movie playback, so I can get rid of my current BD player. I'm out of HDMI inputs so something has to go and I'm hoping I can hang on to my 360 for GTA 5, guess I could buy the component cable for the 360 and keep everything. Still hope the PS4 is quiet.

A few nuggets:
Quote:
Automatic Patch Download
“Automatic patch download” feature will be further enhanced for the PS4™ system.
The system will check for any game updates more frequently and will also automatically
install the updates. With this feature, games will always be up-to-date, allowing users to play
games immediately whenever they wish to play.

I would have thought that would have been a standard feature.
Quote:
SCE will continue to focus on further enhancing the PS Plus service. As part of this
initiative, SCE will add new subscription options for 90 days in Japan (1,300 yen) and 30 days
in North America and Europe ($9.99 / €6.99).

$9.99 for 30 days vs the current $17.99 for 90 days.....I hope this doesnt signal a pretty significant price increase on the yearly sub.

I don't think there is room at the back of that slot to insert a HDD, It looks more like a serial number sticker location.

It's possible that the glossy section to the left of the console/power button clips off, if the HDD is user upgradeable.

Does anyone know what plug the Playstation eye 2.0 has? is it going to fit in that AUX port? I would have like an additional rear USB port.

I can guarantee that the PS4 will be quiet when playing back Bluray and all other media, as all that encoding is done special hardware algorithms on die now, and with incredibly low power usage. Unlike the PS3 which did it by brute force.
