It appears that DTS-MA has a "core" lossy signal that will go through optical. So, if you just want something that's not a 2-ch mixdown and you don't want to connect HDMI straight to the receiver, it still may be worth using optical, but for the full non-lossy signal, you need HDMI.

Last night, I tested and my receiver did say "DTS-MA" when I connected via optical.

Speaking of games, the thing is just barely powerful enough to do 1080p. Plain old 1080P for @#$@ sake. Nobody expected 4k this gen but 1080p was a min. requirement..
Make that 19,999,999 as I am quite happy with mine.

I understand and agree with some of the points but my primary reason for purchase, gaming, it has been a fantastic machine with a lot of great games so far I love the controller and have simply put my controllers on rotation for charging so it is a non-issue for me.

There is definitely a lot of room for refinement and improvement on the non-gaming side.

I'm happy with mine. This was the third generation where I purchased a launch console, so I knew what to expect. There are some games this year that better deliver though.

I think Batman is the first game to not be on last GEN.

"A 2D Dark Souls" and it sure as hell looks like it. In a good way. Supposed to be released sometime this year. JIC this video contains significant spoilers.

Speak for yourself. I enjoy owning both systems. I have a crap ton of backlog that I have to still get to.

And I love having plus for both for the price of one.

I'm pretty happy with the PS4, although I kinda wish it had better/more media features. I know, Sony needs to focus on it as a gaming machine, but still... Well, I guess I will try keeping the PS3 around for a while longer. ;-)

The games seem to have been pretty sparse when I first got the box, but with all of the indie games (and PS+), that has helped fill some gaps. I'm at the point now where I really have more games than I know what to do with, but it wasn't long ago that I was wondering where the games were.

That reminds me, I have a giftcard to spend. Not sure what to choose. Hmm...

Looks like Suspend/Resume is being tested:

Quote:
In an email sent to us by an anonymous person, Sony revealed that they’ll be running a System Software Beta Testing Program on PlayStation 4, giving people the chance to try out new system features before they’re released to the public.

Eligible participants will receive a voucher code through PSN Message over the next few days. Then, you can update your PS4 to version 2.50 Beta by redeeming the code and selecting [Settings] > [System Software Update] > [System Software (Beta)].

Asking participants to play games as much as possible once it’s installed, here’s the main features associated with the 2.50 Beta:

-- You can now set the system software to rest mode without terminating an application. You can set this by navigating to [Power-Saving Setting] > [Set Features in Stand-by Mode] > [Settings] > [Power-Saving Setting] > [Set Functions Available in Rest mode] > [Keep Application Suspended].

-- [Accessibility] is now added to [Setting]. You can now set up accessibility-related functions, such as zooming and button assignment.
