My gut instincts are telling me that this is actually whats going to happen....
Maybe this will be announced in a couple of days at e3, or maybe in a couple of months. Various Oculus reps have been interviewed over the last year or so, and have been asked if Oculus will ever come to the consoles or work with the consoles. I definitely remember these Oculus representatives smiling in a strange way when asked this question. This may have been brewing in the background for quite some time. Oculus has said they are very interested in working with the console companies, and I think they stated that they will have something to announce in that regard at some future point.
Obviously, Sony has it's own headset, so Microsoft seemed like the obvious partner.

You know.... speaking of Tron...
I've heard repeatedly that everybody is going to need to lower their expectations on the graphical quality of the worlds in VR. People expecting photorealistic graphics in VR will be sorely disappointed.
But you take a world like Tron. Tron is almost like a cell shaded world. A neon shaded world. I think that would be absolutely awesome in VR, and I think it wouldn't be as intensive for the hardware to run it. I can't wait for the first Tron world I can "step into" via the HTC Vive
( The Vive is currently my favorite VR headset considering the fact that you can actually "step into, and walk around inside of a game". With all the other VR devices, it seems you can be seated or standing, but not actually walking around in an enclosed space. Standing up is cool, but I want to actually walk around inside the VR world )

Honestly, it's extremely hard for me to imagine VR being a complete flop. Sure, the first 5 to 6 years may be rough, and it's going to have it's up's and downs, but to me, VR is like a runaway train that has left the station and can't be stopped.
Essentially, VR is about making your dreams come true. I mean, when you really boil it down to the essence, VR is wish fufillment. It's fantasy fulfillment. It may take some time for us to get there, but eventually we will have 8K screens for each individual eye. Pixels will be totally forgotten, and photo realism will be completely possible. Also, the size and weight of the headsets will continue to get smaller and smaller and more and more lightweight.
Eventually wireless. Eventually feeling only slightly heavier than a pair or sunglasses.
So, the whole "having a big thing strapped to my head" argument is something that will have dissipated within 10 to 15 years from now.
Yet, the wish fulfillment will just continue to get better, and better and better.
There are so many non-gaming applications that people aren't thinking about. First of all. think about the entire male population that has hit puberty or beyond. Imagine a scenario in which you are in this photorealistic room, and a drop dead gorgeous model walks into the room and starts seducing you. I hate to bring it back to porn, but seriously, how can this possibly fail? I think anybody that is naysaying this will have flipped 180 degrees as soon as they see what is possible regarding wish fulfillment.
Again, what I'm talking about might still be about 10 to 15 years away, but I just can't see a scenario in which 7 out of 10 males aged 17 to 40 aren't using VR headsets every single day. Also, women will be into it as well. In Japan, already they have this setup where two girls are wearing VR headsets, and they are snuggling with each other, but instead of seeing another girl in the headset, they are seeing their favorite teen idol. They are basically pretending to be in a relationship with their favorite teen idol. You don't think that shiz is going to happen worldwide ?
