Sorry, I should have said the DLNA app to use Mezzmo as the server. Works on the XB1. Doesn't work on the PS4. I can play a ripped DVD with Mezzmo and select either the English or Japanese audio track as well as subtitles. You can't do that with the PS4 DLNA app. Very frustrating...

Then Mezzmo needs to update the transcoding profile. DLNA is not an app.

I have a question for folks here.

What I'd really like is to be able to access and play my own digital music library, in-game. The thing is, my music is all in iTunes (for Windows). Is there a way that I can access my iTunes library, including Playlists, on the PS4, and play the music in-game?

Is Plex the answer?

Now that the PS4 has DLNA support, via the MediaPlayer app, does that mean that I could access PlexMediaServer, running on my desktop, without the using the client-side PS4 app, and if so, would that mean that I would not have to have a paid Plex subscription?

If anyone has any experience with this, I'd very much like to hear any advice you have.

Thanks!

When I look at the upcoming games I think to myself, a PC will play most of those games... then I start thinking, how much do I need to spend to get a PC that is a solid upgrade over my PS4 right now, and I am snapped out of that thought process real quick. The price of a PC that will outperform the PS4 on a significant enough level for me to justify the purchase is just too great. Steam sales would be nice, but some PSN sales recently have come shockingly close to matching them. Time for a bigger hdd I guess. (1TB solid state is getting close to affordable...)

On the flip side, I look at the Xbox One and think, for an extra $50-100 I get a PC that can play all those games at 1080p with similar settings. (Alienware Alpha) And with Microsoft's push into the PC gaming getting stronger all the time, I just can't justify the purchase when much of the library is the same.

Then there is poor Nintendo, this E3 broke the camels back for me. Selling my Wii U very soon, they just royally let me down and even the 3DS is looking meh for releases. (A Chibi MetroidPrime spin off... screw you Nintendo) Not sure I'll be there at lauch for anything they do again. (I was there at launch for the GBA,GCN,DS,Wii,3DS and Wii U)

A fast 1TB SSD is under $400. I paid $380 for a 1TB Samsung SSD last year. A gaming PC will cost much more than that because of the expensive video card needed.

You can definitely get a good corei5 PC on sale(November/December) for about that price of the SSD. But you need to add a lot more to the cost to get a good gaming video card.

There has to be an update coming for that. That is something that the PS3 could do. We shouldn't be losing basic functionality like that.

The price of that SSD + a PS4 would buy you a great PC. PS4 level GPUs are like $150ish. I'm not trying to derail the thread, I just thought it was a bizarre statement.

But why buy an SSD for the PS4 in the first place? Wasn't it shown to not improve operating speeds significantly (or enough to justify the cost)? An SSD would be more beneficial in a PC, which raises the price even more.

Hybrids work great but full SSDs do not from what I've read. Personally I'm hopeful the 1 TB PS4 hits shelves soon. That will solve my lack of space and give me a living room console at the same time. Though if its too far out I may just get a 500 GB and call it a day. Maybe upgrade drives later.

Not sure about the Plex stuff but, I tried a few free media servers last night, Serviio and PS3 Media Server. They both worked and saw my music, although the PS3 Media Server kept crashing on my PC. My problems is that album tracks are displayed in alphabetical order and not by track number, with no way to re-sort. That ruins it for me and makes it useless. Looks like Sony put as little work into this as possible hopping to shut people up.

Yes, you've cut to the heart of my question. Any media server should allow access to my iTunes library, if I point it to the folder where all of the music is stored, but it's pretty useless if it cannot also provide access to the library in an organized manner.

This link ( https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/art...89536-Channels ) seems to indicate that Plex can create a "channel" from an iTunes library. However, I'm betting that one would need to be running the client app on the PS4 in order to access that channel, which also requires the PlexPass subscription.

Hence the reason I'm posting the question here. All of my other streaming needs are already met by my Apple TV and AirPlay-enabled receiver. I'm not sure if a PlexPass subscription is worth it for me, as my only real use is for in-game music.

So, I'm hoping somebody here has already figured this out!

I'll play around with this, as soon as I have some time (with two young'uns at home, who knows when that will be???) and if I have any success, I'll be sure to report back here. But, like I said, if anyone has this figured out already, I'd appreciate any advice. (Many thanks in advance!)

Thanks for your input, rolltide.

2TB only $89 shipped (with prime) and if done right you end up with a 500GB portable USB drive too boot.

Yea...I thought about doing that but kind of want a second PS4 anyway so I'm not chained to one room. Can always use the PSTV as well but I'm not keen on that.

if i wasnt taking a trip in august i would be all over that like a fat kid on cake.

I was really hoping for a slimmed down PS4 or at least one better optimized with its fan usage. Perhaps Sony will bring the MGS5 one to the states.

I can't wait to get this next week. Preordered this bad boy as soon as I could. The only thing that would of stopped me was if a newer PS4 was being released within a month.............who am I kidding I would of still ordered it.

Wait a minute...are we talking the BMW or any one of the badass vans/minivans/RV's in the background?

And I have some more questions, like what decade exactly was this picture taken from? Maybe that is what the batmobile looked like in the 80's. hmmm

Clearly that bmw is from the future and has gone back in time in this shot.

Looks like Sony put as little work into this as possible hopping to shut people up.

This is alphabetical by Track name, not file name, which is even more baffling

FFS Sony, add an option to sort by track no.
Are you guys going through Folders? If not, that may solve your problem. Going through artists, albums, etc never works well for me.
