Very doubtful. HDMI 1.4.

Get an NVidia Shield.

Or use a UPS. My PS4 has always been connected to a UPS. It has been fine with power outages and rest mode.

Which one? I've never had luck with mine staying online and I assume it was due to the device not being able to leverage the UPS software for power failure procedures.

And that's the problem. If the UPS runs down, I'm in the same boat. Not worth it to me. I'll just shut it down.

I planned on getting a UHD BD player, but if my PS 4 was going to have some kind of a software update to be able to play UHD then not reason to spend the $$. I guess the UHD BD player is the way to go.

Sony Computer Entertainment Executive Vice President Masayasu Ito spoke with 4Gamer to talk about future possibilities of an enhanced PlayStation 4 for Ultra HD Blu-ray compatibility.

During the recent interview, 4Gamer brings up the topic of Ultra HD Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray, and asks the Executive Vice President about Sony Computer Entertainment’s thoughts on the subject, and whether we’ll have some sort of compatibility with it in this era of the PlayStation 4.

“The Blu-ray disc drive that is currently installed in the PS4 is made exclusively for the Blu-ray disc player, so it cannot read the 3-layer media that is standardized by Ultra HD Blu-ray,” says Ito. “For this reason, the PlayStation 4 models that are out in the market cannot be compatible with Ultra HD Blu-ray.”

However, Ultra HD Blu-ray compatibility is something that the company is currently considering. Ito says, hypothetically speaking, they can indeed think of a way to make it possible, by making an enhanced PlayStation 4 model that is compatible with Ultra HD Blu-ray—but there’s more to it than that.

For example, “how many units of this enhanced PS4 will we be able to sell?” and “how much will we sell them for?” are just some of the questions that factor in the possibilities of making a new and improved PlayStation 4, which must carefully be examined through various perspectives. These are some of the topics that are currently in consideration.
I'm in no hurry to jump into UHD BD. I'm willing to wait to see what Sony does with the PS4 (maybe even PS5). I prefer having a spare console over having a dedicated player, unless there is no other choice.

I'm for sure going to wait on uhd players and TVs. The current stuff is good, but there offerings a year from now will be even better and cheaper.

My current setup is performing very well. There are gains I will be missing out on for the time being, but they don't outweigh the cost of upgrades and the fact that the tech is still being improved.

I use APC 1500 models with the extended run time batteries attached to them. So the one that my PS4 is connected to, will get over 12 hours of run time with my devices connected to it. Unless I am using them during the power outage along with my TV and receiver. Then I'll only get around 2 or 3 hours of run time.

I totally understand. I'm in IT for my living, and have been since the 80s. I spend a lot of my time in places ranging from little server closets in small companies to some of the largest data centers on the planet. I have a total of 5 UPS's in my house (I had 6 but one failed recently), but I don't want to add another one just because the PS4 can't handle a blink when in sleep mode.

So... there are way too many games out recently or coming out that I am interested in. Just ridiculous.

-The Witness: out, by all accounts amazing, I need to play this
-Gravity Rush Remastered: out, seems awesome
-Unravel: looks amazing, first great platformer on PS4?, out next week
-Firewatch: could be a sleeper, seems very interesting, could be a nice story-heavy experience different from the other games coming out around this time; out next week
-PvZ:GW2: loved the first one, can play local split-screen in ALL MODES with my son, out in three weeks

...and I still need to find time for Battlefront, Rock Band 4 (going to be getting back into this now that the leaderboard wipe is done), and as always DriveClub. Oh yeah, I bought the Bloodborne Old Hunters expansion at release and I haven't even tried it yet .

I wanted to pick up the Uncharted Collection in the fall, but I decided to wait on it for when I had more time. But I don't think I am going to have more time for quite a while. Maybe I'll pick it up in the summer after I've played through Uncharted 4 a few times. Maybe. Of course, the spectre of PSVR is looming around that time, so yeah...

I know the "no games" narrative has been a joke for a really long time, but seriously... there are just too many games!

I was at Micro Center a few days ago and saw UPS systems for gaming consoles. Not sure what the difference is since they looked the same as the PC ones, but someone is making them.

Anyone have the hyperx cloud core headset? It's ony $55+tax at gamestop.

I've read on youtube comments, that you need the the turtle beach dss modifier to make the max volume louder. I'm not looking to hurt my ears though. I'm looking for something to replace my wired sony golds (half broken). As i've read hyperx is better sounding.

Looking for some good avs input.

Word to the wise, you gain nothing by volunteering your personal equipment to beta test for this billion dollar company. I cannot recommend lending your primary unit as tribute for any reason whatsoever.

Last beta test rounds many users got continual game crashes and a few got bricked units.

The Core appears to be the original Cloud 1 with fewer accessories. It's a nice headset, but volume was an issue for me when connected to the PS4 controller. I bought a Fiio inline headphone amp and it made a big difference, in both volume and quality. The build quality is great and I would still have them if I had a choice, but the clamping pressure became intolerable during long sessions.

Video Quality - Streaming and Blu Ray quality of PS4v s Standalone

Hi guys. I'm wondering what the consensus is on the PS4 in the forums vs. a standalone Blu ray player. Primarily concerned wiht Blu ray playback quality over standalone player say somehting like BDP-S6500. I have the BDPS6500 and I think it's good but i'm wondering if the PS4 is just as good or better than that player in terms of video quality. Thanks.

The biggest problem I'm aware of is a sync issue when 1080p/24Hz is enabled on the PS4. It's the reason I stopped watching Blu-rays on it.

I haven't played a bunch of games lately on the ps4 since MGSV. I actually have gone backwards and bought two of my favorite PS3 games Deadspace 1/2. I have heard Until Dawn being pretty good and of course Alien Isolation, but is there any game on the horizon like DeadSpace coming out? I am enjoying the atmosphere and intensity of the two DeadSpace games and realizing how really great these games are, and wishing the current gen had something like this!

If you want better picture quality get your display calibrated, that'll do more for PQ than swapping blu-ray players.

Right I get that and I do calibrate my TVs. I'm not an expert but I use Calman and perform my own calibrations. . I know that there is not a whole lot of difference player to player but I was really impressed with the 24p playback of vudu on the S6500 so I wondered what else I might be missing out on regarding other players. I found out today the PS4 cannot do 24p playback for Vudu content so i'm sticking with the S6500 so the search is over. Thanks for the reply regardless.

I have not had problems playing back blurays, except that for 3D, there's enough lag that I have a sync problem since I run a via optical separately to my receiver. I don't think this is a PS4 problem, but an inherent delay due to the display and the way I've got separate signals. I can re-add audio delay in the receiver, but it is kind of a pain. I also have a 4K TV, and it upscales nicely for blurays.

My biggest problem right now is the upscaling of DVDs. I still have a lot of movies on DVD. I know they are low res, but it's made worse by exaggerated edge sharpening. Part of the problem may be that the PS4 is upscaling to 1080p (and oversharpening in the process?), and then the 4K TV upscales that. I'd like to have a player that will play DVDs in their native 480 resolution and let the TV sort it out -- I think that'd be more effective.

(I need to see if my PS3 works better in this regard...)

But for BR, yeah, the PS4 is fine.
