Honestly I think 60fps locked is more important, but Id like that too.

1080/30 locked, 720/60 locked and absolutely nothing under 720 would be fine IMO. Its not like your sitting 5 inches from your large screen TV.

I am primarily a pc player. So 1080p is a must. Playing black ops 2 a few feet from my 60 inch plasma is nice. But when I play battlefield 3 it just looks horrible up close. I just hope that the eagle eye converter will come up with something quick so I can use my mouse and keyboard!

We'll see these flavors for the most part:

1080P @60fps

1080P @30 fps

720P  @60 fps

It'll be up to the developers, and woe unto him that significantly dips below those three. As an example, the new Killzone game on the PS4 is confirmed to be 1080P @30 fps.

Lastly, keep in mind that if the rumors of a 4K PS4 are true, we'll even see some 3D 1080P @60fps releases, which is not possible without 4K tech.

I am really curious to see what the PS4 does for 3d gaming. With the current consoles, the graphical hit between 2d and 3d is very noticeable on a big screen and some major improvement is needed which I would think the PS4 would bring.

I'll be 9' from a 96" 16:9 display so 1080p is a big deal for me. It would be nice if some games offered scope but that probably is a very niche segment.

Is scope gaming a rumored possibility? Now that would be fantastic, but I just dont see it happening considering how small the market is. I have been doing some NLS with my Lumagen to fill up my 2.35 screen for SSX lately and it is fantastic, but would love to see some native scope games. I know the PC can do scope gaming, so maybe this could happen with PS4?

On 3D support for PS4

No, it's not a focus, but it does [support 3D]. More games will run at 1080p and 60 frames-per-second, so it's an easier and better experience when you watch on 3D TV. We like what we can do on PS3 using 3D, but now the consumer electronics side [of Sony Corp.] has shifted focus from 3D TV to something else, so if they are not talking about it, why are we?

Looking at the bandwidth available to the GPU, 1080p/60 will actually be pretty easy. 176GBps is a good step over my Radeon 6870 and Geforce GTX 660's 144GBps, both of which easily hold 60fps at 1080p. Unfortunately, what we are likely to really see is 1080p/30 for the first couple of years as developers choose slightly fancier effects over framerate. It's sad too as 720p/60 is a significantly better experience than 1080p/30, for the same rendering cost. 1080p/60 with slightly lower quality lighting and physics is also a better experience than 10806/30 that is a touch prettier.

While an individual developer is pretty smart, dev studios are pretty dumb, so what do you expect.

Wow. That kind of makes me sad and depressed. That room makes you look very alone and single. And it has zero personality. I mean. I have a simalr setup. I sit about 4 feet from 42 inch. When I put my feet up it hit the TV and I have to scoot. back. But my wife can come and sit on the couch.
I don't. just looks lonely.

Maybe when he's in front of his gaming rig, he wants to be "single and lonely".

Who is to say that he doesn't move the chair out of the way and sit on a love seat that's back against the wall with his loved one when he is watching a movie or something?

I'm confused on why it matters. Maybe he prefers it that way? Personality is subjective anyway.

I'm a "lonely" gamer at night. I used to move a chair in front of my couch after my kids go to bed when I play games.

I love having alone time to just play games. I love co-op games as well but many games are great alone.

Single doesn't equate to lonely for everyone. After the drama of my last long-term relationship (which wasn't even that bad compared to what I see plenty of other people putting up with in order to not be alone), I'd rather be single and alone -- and have all the time in the world to enjoy gaming, keeping the drama on the TV screen where it belongs. I'm actually envious of this guy's set up, though I prefer my La-Z-Boy to his office desk chair.

But kudos to everyone who can make relationships work and still find the time to enjoy their gaming!

If you can't have your own alone time and give the other person their alone time your relationship isn't healthy. Share some hobbies but have your own as well.

When PS3 first came out, gamers simply believed the advertising that games will be "rendered" in 1080p. Even it was found to be false in most games even today. Even a few games simply upscaled the video output (like X360) to display at 1080p and gamers again assumed the graphics are rendered in 1920x1080.

Now, PS4 is again advertised that games will be rendered in 1080p. And gamers assume every part of the graphics are rendered in 1920x1080. Just don't be shock when PS4 games that don't have all the parts of the graphics are rendered in 1920x1080.

That is really the good thing in the ignorance on gamers to simply believe whatever is advertised.

Personally, I have less problem that games don't run in true 1920x1080 as long they stop advertising what it is not. I know it's how advertising works but stop been ignorance in believing the myths.

What are the advertisements for the PS3 and PS4 that state every game will be 1080p?

Yeah, if some people have false expectations, that's their problem. The PS2 era didn't have 720P as standard, so who realistically thought the PS3 era was going to be exclusively in 1080P?

At least the expectation this gen is somewhat understandable, but just like we discussed with those who thought 60fps would be a PS4 standard, we must realize that developers will almost always add so many new effects and graphic features that the resolution and or framerate will inevitably be negatively affected. That will be true next, NEXT gen as well.

I don't think we'll see 1080p in every game either. Even though all current PS4 releases have been reported to be 1080p, we've already had 2 Xbone games that have sub 1080p resolutions. Ryse is 900p and Killer Instinct is 720p. I'm sure the PS4 even being at least 40% more powerful will follow later on in the generation as developers push more and more graphic effects, and will use tricks like those in the current generation such as 1080p overlayed HUDs and on the fly variable resolutions.

As a former owner of a 1080i only TV, I hope the PS4 doesn't down convert 720P to 480P like the PS3 does for 1080i TVs. What a PITA that was!

Gotta love the Blue Moon...
