The store has been updated and while using the PS Vita, it's stuck on "preparing to download... Please wait" when I'm trying to get the Soul Sacrifice demo. This stinks. People are reporting to have better luck using the PS3 to download the demo but I don't have room on that unless I delete some things.
I should have started downloading earlier.

It worked after I tried a second time. The servers must be taking a beating right now which might be one of the reasons Sony didn't tell people the store is updated yet.

1st post has been updated with the April 17th, 2013 Playstation Store Update. By now, most people already know what they want from this week's store update, so I'm not going to highlight anything--except Sacred Citadel for those who like old school fantasy beat-em ups.

I need to buy Dark Arisen, but I have not preordered on the PSN before... (getting the digital version because of the original's constant disk seeking)

It's actually pretty good. It's probably a little overvalued (should probably be 11.99 or 9.99), but it plays like you would expect. So far it is pretty fun. The stages are a pretty short, but there are a lot of them (4-5 Acts w/4-5 stages in each Act).

There are 4 heroes (warrior, shaman, mage, ranger, but you can only play with online/co-op with 3) . They mostly play the same (the Ranger is the one that is the most different because of his bow)--the shaman and mage use swords, but their Power attacks involve "magic."). There is a leveling system as well as a rudimentary weapon loot drop system (i.e., both your character & weapons get better as you adventure). Character designs are a bit bland, but as an old school fantasy beat-em up, they work. I completed the 1st Act last night and so far I'm digging it until the D&D games and Dragon's Crown release later in the year.

The biggest drawback is either there is something wrong with their Netcode or NOBODY is playing online. I've tried 3 or 4 different times on Sunday and this morning, and was not able to find anyone online. For a 4 player 3 player drop in and out co-op game, that's not good. So far the difficulty and the bosses are managable with 1 player, but I can see this becoming frustrating quickly if the difficulty for the bosses spikes later on.

I can see this being a (free) Plus title down the road. It has that "feel" about it, but I don't regret my purchase. It's good for when I only have 15-30 mins to kill.

1st post has been updated with the April 23 PSN Store Update.

The Resident Evil sale this week is pretty good (as are the new PSN & Day 1 Digital releases). Off to find reviews and reactions for Star Trek: The Videogame.

Haven't seen the reviews yet, but in one gaming forum I frequent, it sounds like the game is riddled with bugs and the graphics are barely current generation.

Search around Youtube and there are a couple of reviews and some game play already. People that love the license will probably think it's great no matter what.

I guessed when there were no real reviews that this game wasn't going to be great, but I went ahead and picked up the pre-order anyway. It's not a great game by any stretch of the imagination, but it fits the bill. I like games (even if they are mediocre) that allow me play single player and progress through a story & actually finish it and then trade it back or give it away. This is one of those type of games. It puts me in mind of the Captain America movie game--pretty meh, but I got a sense of accomplishment from actually completing it.

Glitches do abound. I had to restart a checkpoint in the introductory mission (basically an action packed tutorial) because Spock had to be with me for the cutscene to start, but he disappeared (literally). Once I restarted the checkpoint and he reappeared and followed me to the correct spot, only then did the cutscene commence and I was able to proceed. Small things like that are pretty much the order of the day for this game.

Graphics aren't bad--they just aren't Tomb Raider/Bioshock Infinite level. Again, if you think of the Marvel movie games from 2-3 years ago (Capt. America, Thor, Ironman) with a little more polish and shine, that should give you an idea of what it looks like. This shouldn't be a spoiler, but so far, there has been an on-rails sequence where you kinda' sorta control the Enterprise and that was fairly good-looking, but so far, this is a by-the-numbers, over-the-shoulder, 3rd person shooter.

This game is definitely NOT worth full price; it is at best a rental or picking it up @ 19.99 or lower, but I already know that I want Dragon's Crown, so I'll finish this one (assuming there are no game ending glitches like there were in LoTR: War in the North), see if it is feasible to Platinum, and then trade it in fairly quickly and put the entire trade in value on Dragon's Crown ($39.99). A two-for-one, as it were.

EDIT: on the PS3 or the Vita.

Not a problem--I wish I could get to it sooner, but unless there's a problem or a really big update that everyone is looking forward to, the store usually manages to update early, and I'm usually still at work when it does. My workplace has removed the filters, so I technically COULD update it on their time, but I have too much of the Protestant work ethic ingrained in me to do it. tongue.gif
