Will you be keeping your PS3? Not sure if there will be a market for used PS3's. I am thinking of selling it once I get the PS4...

I'll give it to my daughters to be their Blu-ray player and game machine. The only game I have an issue with losing is Tekken Tag Tornament 2. I still play it a lot and expect to for several more years. I wish a version made its way to the PS4 because then I would be done with the PS3 altogether.

I plan on keeping it so I can still play my PS1, PS2, and PS3 games. Plus it has YLOD problems so I wouldn't be able to get much for it anyway.

I don't plan on being an early adopter as I would rather wait a year and have Sony work out any bugs that come with the first generation.
When I eventually do get one though, I'll have a hard time getting rid of the PS3 because of all the song files I have for Rock Band. Unless of course there will be a way to transfer them over and have them work.

I'll be giving it to my kids when I get my ps4, that way they can have a system for netflix and to play a few games when they get older.

A friend of mine was using my system a few weeks ago to play skyrim for the first time. He enjoyed the experience immensely, so I will probably just give him my PS3.

I've still got the fat 80 gig that has backwards compat. memory card reader slots (does anyone use these?) And 4 usb's on the front. I'll revisit the 2 main series that I bought for the PS3. Uncharted 1-3 and I think I have all the Ratchet and Clank series. The Last of us may be the last game I buy on the PS3.
But I think the old girl is getting yoinked out of my setup once the PS4 is bought. I'd like to build a man cave someday with a big shelf that can fit tons of game systems that can be switched in and out. Dreamin for now.

It will remain connected to play PS3 games with. Even if I had plans to leave it behind eventually which I don't, there's little reason to eliminate it anytime soon with big games like Gran Turismo 6 on the way and with the PS4/Xbox One showing the smallest leap between two console generations we've seen in 40 years of home videogames.

There's going to be amazing PS3 games that don't appear on the PS4 for quite sometime yet.

Can you give some examples? I just had to buy a new PS3 b/c my Xbox took a dump. This would go a long way towards making me feel better about spending good coin at the tail end of a console generation.

The just released The Last of Us, Gran Turismo 6 (Although that one is officially under consideration for an eventual PS4 release), Beyond: Two Souls from the developer behind Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain, Grand Theft Auto V (Although I suspect this one will eventually be ported over), Kingdom Hearts 1/Chain of Memories HD, Agent, and quite a few others. And then there are recent releases like the Sly Cooper sequel, the God of War sequel, and others that many of us have yet to play. Not to mention games that have been released since 2006 that one just may of never got around to playing despite the desire being there.

And then there are all the games we don't yet know about. Take a look at some of the amazing PS2 games that appeared after the PS3 with excellent releases in franchises like Motorstorm, God of War, & Ratchet & Clank. And then realize just how powerful the PS3 remains to this day (A beautiful 1st generation PS3 game is still a beautiful game today), just how many PS3's and 360's are out there, the fact that both are profitable platforms with long futures ahead of them for publishers, and the long road the PS4/Xbone have before fully supplanting them.

I suspect that the PS3 (And 360) are poised to blow away the PS2's successful post-replacement life and it isn't saddled with being a standard definition console in a now high definition world like the PS2 was. I imagine there are several dozen excellent PS3 or PS3/360 exclusives ahead of us that we don't even know about right now including some big hitters from Sony themselves and also 3rd parties. And I've just been talking major retail releases and have been ignoring niche titles of significant interest like Disgaea, the PSN side with things like the Oddworld remake (Although maybe that's slated for the PS4) and Rain, future possibilities like The Last Guardian, etc.

Seems senseless to be talking about retiring it with things like Gran Turismo 6 ahead for it.

That's all great news to me. I had just assumed that many of these titles were coming out on PS4; and though they may well the fact that they currently are NOT makes me feel good. If there is a title drought after the first wave of releases for the new systems, there looks to be plenty of titles to tide me over. New ones too !!!

I'm hoping there will be some good trade in deals for the PS3 at some point so I can trade it in toward a PS4. Otherwise I have no use for my PS3 Slim since everything it does, I have other devices that do as good a job or better.

Mine is going to be staying. It will be for guitar hero and rock band. Also I am most likely waiting for a year after launch to pick up a ps4. I like to give it time to get bugs if any worked out.

I'm currently trying to sell a PS3 slim, and I'm having a hard time getting any biters, so maybe selling a PS3 isn't such a good idea, unless you want to give the thing away for peanuts. I'm willing to sell my PS3, but only for a decent price, I'm not going to give the thing away for hardly any money, might as well hold onto it.

I have been trying to figure out a way to get the most bang for my buck with my PS3 and 360 slim. Craigslist would be the ideal scenario, but recently the market seems to be flooded with 360s and ps3s, with a 250 gig PS3 slim going for maybe 150-200.

I know I may catch some flak here, but gamestop might be the best and easiest option right now, especially if you haven't become a "Pro" rewards member yet. Apparently, if you upgrade to Pro for $15, you get a one time 50% extra trade in bonus coupon that can be used on everything you trade in, but just one time.

I just called and had the guy quote me how much I would get for the following (the credit amounts include the 50% bonus):

PS3 250 gig: $165
360 Slim 250 gig: $202.50
One sixaxis controller: $25.5 (Dualshock controller would be $30)
Kinect: $30

This all adds up to $423 in credit. If i were to try and sell all this tuff on c-list, I would maybe get $450 to $500 (max) in cash, if I was lucky.

Plus, with the Pro membership, all the games and accessories you may trade in would get an extra 10% credit stacked onto the 50% credit.

Of course the only problem is now I'm stuck with no gaming console for 5 months.....decisions decisions.

Really?!?! I might need to check that out. I could trade in one of my 360 slims and my PS3 Slim and that would cover 90% of the cost of a PS4. Is that actually right? $202 for a 360 Slim? I think all my Slims have a 250GB hard drive. Can you trade in two 360 slims? How long will this offer be in place?

I used to be a "Pro" rewards member but I think it expired over a year ago since I have not been into Gamestop in a long time. I think I even have some credit from a couple of pre-orders I never picked up that I got from BestBuy instead.

Also I'm guessing the PS3 price includes the controller, or is that without the controller and with the controller you get an extra $25.50? If I can get some trade in prices like that then you just made my weekend. I'll be able to get a PS4 with little money out of pocket.

EDIT: Crap! I just called Gamestop and they told me that the 50% extra credit was only for the month of May. I guess I'll try calling a different one tomorrow, since there are three of them within a couple of miles from me, and see if they say the same thing.

Yeah, Gamestop can have good deals if you look for them. I traded in my phat PS3 in October for a Super Slim and they gave me $170 credit. The market will be saturated from now until PS4 launches, so whatever they are offering today it will only go down IMHO as we get closer.

You can easily get $55 for Kinect on Craigslist. Shouldn't take much effort.
