The Last of Us is the Jordan of video games. After that, Red Dead, Uncharted, Arkham City, God of War 3, GTA 4, and Metal Gear Solid 4.

500 gigs FTW.

Well, this was very interesting. As of about 3 hours ago, here are the breakdowns for the AVS Playstation Forum for the Top 10 games of this generation. Some quick notes first:
- The diversity of game genres was impressive. Action, Arcade, Adventure, RPG, Music, Sports, Racing, you name it
- There were surprisingly few sports titles. Sports gaming has been the bulk of my gaming for more than 20 years, but even I only voted one sports game in my top 10.
- Same thing with RPGs, very few. I’m blown away by the lack of RPGs in the top 10 (Fallout 3 was it). I LOVE RPGs, and play them a ton, but I only included Skyrim
- While CoD always gets hammered in message board forums, they continue to sell like hotcakes, and are well represented here.
- Really surprised how well Dead Space did. It was excellent, that’s for sure.
- Exclusives did very well. Playstation DOES have some great exclusives, hard to argue that.
- Basically, if you haven’t played the Uncharted series yet, just go buy ‘em.
- LoL at Bioshock Infinite’s poor showing. Not sure why I find that funny, but I do.
- I’m quite surprised Rock Band didn’t have a better showing. I think it’s less to do with how fun it is, and more to do with it just doesn’t pop in your head when thinking of your top 10. Frankly, there’s not many better party type games
- And my disclaimer: This is no way represents a scientific approach. I did it during a slow afternoon at work, and if you find any errors or omissions, well – good for you.

Without further ado, I give you the Top 10 Games of this Generation: (Game followed by votes)

Rock Band 3 is my number one, by far, but the others are in no particular order.
Super Street Fighter IV AE
Guacamelee
Persona 4 Golden
Mass Effect 2
Shadow Complex
Mirror's Edge
Assassin's Creed II/Brotherhood/Revelations
Dirt series
Project Gotham Racing 4
Splosion Man/Ms Splosion Man

Honorable goes to Pinball FX/Zen Pinball, Scott Pilgrim, Gravity Rush, Kingdom Rush, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Dungeon Defenders, Batman Arkham Asylum and City, Defense Grid, Burnout Paradise, and Toy Soldiers 1/2.

Most overrated piece of crap this gen: Fez.

I'd disagree here unless you mean 360 performance then yeah. Otherwise it's a great throwback to old school adventure games. Given Guacamelee, Shadow Complex, and Dust being on your list you should like Fez. I should like Game of Thrones but it sucks beyond terrible so there's that I suppose.

Crackdown only getting one vote (mine) is absolutely criminal. Of course, I know this thread started off with people thinking PS3 exclusives, so most weren't considering Crackdown, but still....

I'm of the mind that Crackdown got outclassed pretty quick by Infamous and Saints Row, props for being early though.

As a fan of both Infamous and Crackdown, I'd like to offer an alternative thought process.

Sure, infamous does some things better than Crackdown, but they are very different games when you really think about it. Crackdown for me is all about the orbs. The actual storyline and main gameplay is totally secondary to the hunt for orbs, and trying to improve my abilities. With infamous, yes, it has the blast shards, but the blast shards just aren't as fun to find as the orbs were. Crackdown was a very early 2007 release, and pretty amazing considering it was a first gen attempt on the 360.

Infamous came out in May of 2009, more than 2 years later, after being able to see everything that Crackdown was doing, and attempt to borrow some of the concepts. Again, no knock on infamous which is a great game in it's own right, but I still think Crackdown is a slightly better game, but if hunting orbs isn't your thing, I can certainly see why it wouldn't be as good as a game for you.

I think the only thing "amazing" was scale. I'm not trying to diminish the title or whether it was enjoyable.

Hhhmmmm, that's interesting. I remember Crysis (all of them) being highly rated in every review I've ever seen, but it's not on anybody's list.

In no particular order (and choosing only one from any series):

The Last of Us
Skyrim
GTA 4
Uncharted 3
Super Mario Galaxy
Civilization V
COD: MW2
Mass Effect 2
Diablo 3
Portal 2

Special mention for Rock Band 2/3 and L4D, but I just can't let any of those others go.

I'm a little disapointed not to see Bioshock Infinite on peoples lists more often. It's next on my list after I finish TLOU, and I have high hopes for it. I don't see how it can possibly be as good as TLOU, though.

Dude, are you made of leprechauns? Cause that was awesome!

It's a great experience, but it's also kind of at odds with itself. The best part about it is everything but the game itself. Even more so after playing TLOU, which shares quite a bit in common.

Basically, TLOU is an adult game that teenagers can find enough to like in, and BI is a teenagers game that adults can still find interesting.

It's meh to me. I enjoyed Bioshock 1 much more. Infinite was very dull at times

Never did understand the love for Mass Effect 2. It was a fairly on the rails shooter with less RPG elements than ME1 with some poor game dynamics.

Any game that requires me to go around scanning planets and sending out probes is poor design.

"Hey Commander Shepard. I know you're on this really important mission to save the galaxy and all, but can you stop by LV-426 and run a manual scan to see if there's any iron?"

Other than that it was an incredible game. In ME1, landing on the planets was really dull most of the time, and the shooting was kinda meh. All the mass effects have a lot of dumb filler, but the core game was tighter in ME2, and there were more varied and interesting characters and missions. ME3 is right behind it IMO....ME1 is a distant third in that series.

Personal top ten (for today anyway):

1. Borderlands
2. Skyrim
3. Journey
4. Battlefield 3 (multiplayer)
5. Battlefield Bad Company (single player)
6. Uncharted 2
7. Infamous
8. Kingdoms of Amalur
9. Dishonoured
10. Pinball Arcade

Honourable mentions to:

Driver: San Francisco
TDU2
Fallout 3
Portal 2
Zen Pinball
Little Big Planet

Biggest disappointments:

God of War 3
GTAIV
BFBC2 / BF3 single player

Probably my biggest disappointment this gen (other than console reliability) was the total lack of an immersive open world fishing sim. The last good one was "Championship Bass" on the PSX:

I can't think of a single combat sequence in ME2 that was "on rails." Though, yes, planet scanning was a chore in ME2, but I'll take it over scaling steep cliff faces on planet after planet in the Mako to find one little cache of an element or collectible. Or fighting inside the same rooms, over and over again.

Combat, inventory and mod management was a mess in ME1. It's main story was the only thing that redeemed it for me. But in ME2 every character had an interesting backstory and side mission arc that played like a game within a game. I'm currently on my fourth run, and still seeing and hearing things I never did before by taking different pairings on squadmates on missions--so storywise, ME2 offers a much deeper and richer experience than ME1, which was good for its time. ME2 also had some good DLC add-ons with Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival.
