Insomniac readies their next main entry into their buddy action series: Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus. It'll release on disc and digital for the PS3 this fall for $30. It's longer than some of their shorter R&C titles, but not as long as their main entries.

Quote:
Ratchet and Clank are back! The beloved duo return with an original single-player epilogue to the acclaimed Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time. Ratchet & Clank®: Into the Nexus is a story-driven platform adventure with humor and heart, featuring outrageously upgraded weapons, extreme planet hopping and brand new worlds begging to be explored. Into the Nexus marks a true return to form for the acclaimed series.

After one of the most infamous manhunts in galactic history results in the capture of Vendra Prog, Ratchet and Clank offer to escort the dangerous criminal to the Vartax Detention Center. After a daring orbital jailbreak at the forgotten edge of the galaxy, Ratchet and Clank find themselves lost in an abandoned sector. There, in deepest space, they uncover an inter-dimensional event that threatens the universe—and forces Ratchet to decide what’s really important.

Features:
A return to the Future – Series protagonists, Ratchet and Clank, return along with Captain Qwark, Talwyn, Cronk and Zephyr in a brand-new, story-driven single-player adventure.

Even more crazy weapons and gadgets for your arsenal– Arm yourself with a variety of exotic new weapons and gadgets, including the Winterizer and Nether Blades.

Clank strikes back – All-new gameplay offers inter-dimensional challenges where Clank can alter gravity, manipulate objects and solve mind-bending platforming puzzles.

Discover new worlds… and the dangers of space – Traverse through the zero-gravity of space and explore a mysterious sector filled with new planets to explore along with hidden dangers and dark secrets yet to be uncovered.

The last mainline entery into the series, R&C:A Crack in Time gets my vote for the most under rated PS3 gem. I hope they build closely off of what made that game a blast to play.

Wouldn't ratchet and clank be a sony owned ip?

Scratch that, this will indeed be a sony exclusive, from ign , nov 2012..... That’s pretty indicative of future Ratchet development out of Insomniac Games, though it’s important to note that Sony, and not Insomniac, owns the Ratchet & Clank license. So Sony could just as easily keep the franchise going through another studio.

I enjoyed "Tools of Destruction" more myself; 'Crack' seemed more cerebral, which is cool, but 'Tools' just seemed like more of a mindless blast-fest which I enjoy. No right or wrong, but I think all day long at work; at play, I'd rather just immerse in something senseless. smile.gif

Of course, I probably just got banned for using 'tools' and 'crack' in the same sentence....

Long time R&C fan here; the last couple of games were really disappointing to me as they just veered too far away from the classic gameplay and replaced it with inferior experiences. I'm really happy to see the series returning to its roots and look forward to lots of zany weapons, groan inducing one liners and varied worlds to explore. Really a great way to send off the franchise on the PS3; here's hoping the final game lives up to the promise shown so far. Just one question: where's Dr. Nefarious and Lawrence?

Man, if only we got this many Jak and Daxter games. Or even Spyro for god's sake. How much Rachet and Clank can one gaming industry take ?

I say bring on more R &C! Jak and Daxter didn't have the same lasting appeal that Ratchet and Clank did/do for me. Not saying their bad just that I prefer Ratchet over Jak. The weapons of Ratchet and Clank have always been zany, and maybe that's what I like. I played the first Spyro and didn't care for it.

J&D are Naughty Dog games; they are busy with Uncharted and The Last of Us. Spyro isn't owned by Insomniac (Universal I think).

I just bought the old trilogy with the summer sale and I agree it's cool to see how the old games played although the camera has been a bit of an annoyance so far as I've gone through the first game.

Pretty sure Mark Cerny is Spiro from his stint at Universal Interactive Studios. So, Knack might be right up your ally.

Funny how everything he touches turns to gold (he's worked with both Insominac and Naughty Dog as well). Now he builds the PS4. Pretty crazy tracing his journey through the industry.

I distinctly remember reading about him when I was a kid, making the Marble Madness arcade game when he was 16 or so. That is pretty crazy.

The first R&C game is a bit brutal in terms of camera and controls. Once you get to the second game, it will feel more like the PS3 R&C games (Future series).

I guess I won't be getting rid of my PS3 any time soon--very excited about this announcement! I'm thinking that maybe Full Frontal Assault will be added to the IGC in the month leading up to the release of In the Nexus. That'll be sweet, since I haven't been able to bring myself to spend actual money on it (not a fan of tower defense gameplay).

Yeah probably I hope to start the second game this weekend. I'm with you I've been investing so much in digital games with my PS3 that heck I might still keep it in the living room come fall when the PS4 launches. Way too much goodness invested now and into the future since I've gone digital download only (if available) to let it just sit in my bedroom.

I would have probably gone digital if BC was in the PS4... I'll be picking up the physical release of this, also need to import a European copy of the PSN game Quest for Booty.

One of his very best games, (besides Sonic 2) was Kid Chameleon on Sega Genesis. Tremendously underrated platformer.

About time Insomniac takes a break from making crap and makes a good game for once. Xbox can have Sunstrip Mall; I'll take a proper Ratchet game all day long over whatever that game is supposed to be. I really think Ratchet is all Insomniac can make. I thought the Resistance series was mediocre at best. And Fuse was just an embarrassment to them.

500 gigs FTW.

I kinda agree. I thought Resistance was a decent series but I think Ratchet seems to be their bread and butter. I'm sure they want to try different things though and I'm ok with that. If Universal would let them do it I'd like to see another Spyro game again. I loved that series.

Awesome news. Other then GT and GTA the R&C series is the only one where I've bought every version/edition they've made. And all 3 titles are coming out on the PS3 right ahead of the PS4 launch. Thus no rush to buy a PS4 for me.

My equipment list is here. Playstation Network ID = jmii ...that's JM roman numeral 2

I wish there was a PS4 version coming - I would be more excited to play at 1080p/60.

I finally loaded up Full Frontal Assult, and it's hard playing at 720/30. And the Vita version's framerate is nearly unplayable. frown.gif

Still... the video for Nexus looks awesome. And Knack on PS4 is a day 1 purchase.

I forgot this game comes out on Tuesday. Days before the release of the PS4! redface.gif

But, it's only $30, includes Quest For Booty download, and hey - it's Ratchet and Clank!

I just pre-ordered it. Is anyone else going to pick it up, or is everyone too hyped for PS4?
