The last big trade show for Sony to show off unrevealed PS4 goodies before launch is nearly here:
Quote:
Sony’s Tokyo Game Show Keynote Will Provide “Detailed Specification” of PS4 and its Exclusive Games

Sony will hold two conferences for Tokyo Game Show. The first, actually held the day before the event on September the 18th, will give specific information related to the Japanese and Asian market.

The second and more mysterious will be held on September the 19th at 10:30 AM local time, and will be titled “The World Created by Playstation 4”. So far we didn’t have much information on its contents and topics, and interestingly enough even the title is still officially marked as “tentative” just three days before it’s held.

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia finally provided a brief blurb on what the conference will entail, and it’s quite interesting:
Quote:
“Playstation 4” is the next generation computer entertainment system which will be released by Sony Computer Entertainment towards the end of this year, 2013. Detailed specification of this latest system and its exclusive software titles and the new gaming experience that can be realized with the “Playstation 4” platform will be introduced together with the latest information.

I’m positively curious on what kind of “detailed specification” will be provided exactly. The hosts on stage definitely have the competence to go quite in depth on both business and technical topics, as we’ll see Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House, Division President of Business Division 1 Masayasu Ito and SCE Worldwide Studio President Shuhei Yoshida.

Unfortunately no information about the keynote being livestreamed was provided, which makes it unlikely at this stage.

The show will be streamed, but not confirmed with an English dub. Schedule:
  • Wed @ 6:30 AM PST: pre-TGS press conference

  • Thu @ 6:00 PM PST: Sony TGS stage event #1
  • Thu @ 6:30 PM PST: TGS opening keynote "The World PS4 Creates"

  • Fri @ 6:00 PM PST: Sony TGS stage event #2

  • Sat @ 6:00 PM PST: Sony TGS stage event #3

Deep Down and MGS V is confirmed to be present during stage events.

That'd be nice.

Capcom confirms they will have something new to debut. No word on the platform(s) though.

Sony's pre show conference is starting now. Here's is a YouTube live stream link. An english dub is included.

Update I: Andrew House is up talking about the industry and its future, as well as PS4's role in it. This might not be a presentation chock full of reveals.

Eh, since nothing much is going on with the show so far, here's a cool new TGS video of Yakuza Ishin on the PS4:

Still not sure what to think of that game.

Looks like a randomly generated dungeon crawler with a dark/demons souls vibe. Looks good, but also looks a bit bare...

Edit: Apparently the DD stream above is from a unit on the floor, so you're seeing a real PS4 live Ustream for the first time of some pretty terrible TGS floor players... LOL

I am officially SOLD on Deep Down after watching the live stream! Gameplay may look weird to some, but as a huge fan of Legend of Grimrock (completed it last year), this is like a next gen upgrade of the whole style of play, with randomized dungeons as a bonus.

The tight camera angle and thin, winding corridors add a claustrophobic element giving you a sense of fear that something may pounce on you at any moment. It also keeps you on your toes when you trigger traps and such.

I am digging the reactions when attacks connect. Combat looks "weighty". They need to have a good variety of monster types to keep things interesting though. We'll see. Graphics are not as good as the reveal trailer, but still look good with a very nice lighting engine.

One thing though that I am concerned about is that the puzzles (if there are any) may not be as deep and entertaining as Grimrock's well designed stumpers. Ah well, I do like what I see overall so far.

The YouTube live stream of the show is back up.... Deep Down presentation first, and Metal Gear V a few hours later.

That dragon battle in COOP was impressive, and the fluid dynamic fire was great, although they still have a bit to go to get to the reveal tech demo.

I like the feel, I just hope the procedurally generated dungeons are too sparse or simple. They got the basis of something interesting and unique here, but they have to execute that vision.

Capcom maybe be able to win me back if they hit all the right notes here. And they need to, they're almost broke.

PS4 Camera is confirmed at TGS to do that voice and face recognition thingy:
Quote:
We previously showed you leaked information confirming voice recognition with the PS4, but Sony tried to distance itself from the news. Now, during TGS, it has once again been confirmed.

The PlayStation Camera will support both voice and facial recognition, with Knack given as an example of a supporting game. Sony’s Masayasu Ito revealed the news, adding “we will never stop evolving PlayStation”.

The PS Camera releases alongside the the PS4 for $59.99, although we should point out that voice support has so far only been confirmed for Japanese and English.

Remote play of PS4 games using either of the Vita devices reportedly has "no lag whatsoever":
Quote:
Sony continued to shine a spotlight on PS Vita TV during its Tokyo Game Show keynote, talking up the little device's ability to stream Vita, PS3, and PS4 games. But how they would look, and--more importantly--how they would play, was yet to be known. As soon as the show floor opened we made a beeline to Sony's booth, and after getting hands-on with the hardware we left with mixed opinions.

There's definitely a visual hit when you're using the PS Vita TV to play PS4 games. We played Knack, one of the console's flagship launch titles, and though it looked good, there was definitely something a bit off. In a way, it almost looked like we were watching a YouTube video running at 1080p--it was serviceable, and looked good, but had minor tinges of compression.

That's the (relatively minor) bad news. The good news is that it played flawlessly. During our 10-minute demo we experienced no lag whatsoever. It felt as though we were playing a game running on the hardware, not a game being streamed wirelessly to it. So while you're not getting the full-fledged next-gen experience (especially if you're playing using a PS3 controller, as we were), you're definitely getting an extremely solid experience.

Well, so long as you live in Japan--Sony still hasn't announced plans to release PS Vita TV in the US/UK, despite using almost exclusively Americans in the promotional images and ad campaigns. Hopefully that is alleviated soon, since we're definitely excited for this interesting piece of tech.

Also, Yoshida says there is no lag with Vita Remote play of PS4 games at the 4:35 mark of this Vita video:
