Setup: PS4 connected to Samsung D7000 plasma by HDMI, TV audio connected to older receiver b(JVC RX-5020) by Optical cable.

When playing a BD w/ either DD or DTS I get sound when my input is set to "Digital Auto", but when I set the receiver to DD or DTS the corresponding logo, just blinks which indicates no signal and I get no sound.

Any thoughts?

The PS4 probably is decoding the soundtracks and sending two channel (stereo) PCM.

Since you are going thru the TV, the TV will only be passing 2 channel sound via it's optical (also the TV only is recognized as a 2 channel device)

The solution is to connect the optical cable directly from the PS4 to the receiver. On your PS4, go into the "Settings" then "Sound and Screen", then "Audio Output Settings"
Change the "Primary Output" to "Digital Out(Optical)" and change the "Audio Format(Priority)" to DTS or Dolby (I prefer DTS myself).

This will make the PS4 output sound to both the TV and your receiver at the same time, so if you still want to use only the TV speakers for sound you can.

Ok, I hear what your saying. But what about my dish hopper, it is also connected to the tv in the same way. I actually seem to get good surround sound from the hopper when it's available. I assumed the tv would just pass the signal through via the optical.

You were right on. Now I just need to buy an digital optical switch from Monoprice for like $7 so I can switch between the ps4 and the hopper.smile.gif
