It does not support 3D bluray playback at this time, and we do not know when or if it will.

3D movie support on the PS4 is coming, but no one knows when.

Looking at the comments on the link that Joe provided, I don't understand why people think that hardly anyone has 3D. Extrapolating 3D TV sales figures, 3D is in approximately 30 to 50 million homes in the US. To me that does not seem like hardly.

Plenty if people have 3D sets. But most people don't use them. Between work and friends, I know several dozen people with HD sets that can play 3D content. But out of all those people, only two of them actually use and watch 3D on their TVs. The other people either they don't like wearing the glasses, get headaches or something, or never even tried. it. 3D was just a feature on their Tvs that they never planned on using.

I would rather have better frame rates and higher resolution 2D for gaming anyway.

Cheers,

Jeff

Would 3D somehow take away from being able to provide high frame rates and 2D resolution? If not then that's just giving them a pass.

WIth 3D you need to use 720P to have 60FPS unless you have HDMI 2.0.

No, it doesn't. The resolution is dropped to 720p when 3D is selected. Doesn't change or limit what can be run in 2D.
