Assassin's Creed: Unity
PS4, XB1, PC
Release Date: Oct. 28 2014

Set in Paris 1789 during the french revolution. Be awesome (?) with your friends, while pretending to stop some evil templar plot so you can play the next game coming in 2015 biggrin.gif

http://assassinscreed.ubi.com/en-us/home/index.aspx
Quote:
INTRODUCING ASSASSIN’S CREED® UNITY

Paris, 1789 – The French Revolution turns a once-magnificent city into a place of terror and chaos. Its cobblestone streets run red with the blood of commoners who dared to rise up against the oppressive aristocracy.

As the nation tears itself apart, a young man named Arno will embark on an extraordinary journey to expose the true powers behind the Revolution. His pursuit will throw him into the middle of a ruthless struggle for the fate of a nation, and transform him into a true Master Assassin.

Game looks pretty damn impressive.

Screenies (supposedly 4K resolution, thx to dualshockers)
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Gameplay video that really shows how nice the visuals are and what appears to be greatly improved free running/climbing controls

What I'm still curious about is how the 4 player co-op will be integrated in the game. Seems like it could really freshen the series up and make me want to jump back into the Assassin's Creed world. After AC3 I'm hesitant to spend money on a game I'm going to get burned out on halfway through it.

Wow, a dedicated stealth/crouch button. It seems like a lot of the systems have been improved and will there be no HUD? That would be a bold move.

Where's my Assassin's Creed Comet announcement? Maybe it's been pushed back. There's no doubt it exists. Ubi swore they were still dedicated to the old gen systems.

Why is everyone in France British? Same thing always bugged me about Les Misérables. It's even made by a French developer.

Every year I say I'm done with AC but every year it sucks me back in; we'll see how long this one holds my interest. The co-op might give this one more legs.

No competitive mulitplayer in this title:

Quote:
Actually no, we made choices on the game early on that we’re going for the shared experience…This meant that we developed core mechanics more on cooperation instead of confrontation. So we put a-lot of effort into redefining the fights so that multiple players can actually engage in them and have a better strategy against the AI, which reacts differently each time. Same thing for navigation and same thing for the stealth. All of our effort and our decisions were based on this topic. We really wanted to be focused on that.

Maybe they release most people got bored of it! Hopefully they will increase the length of the single player story now.

Assassin's Creed Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Ubisoft locked both versions at the same spec 'to avoid all the debates and stuff'.

Bummer for those with projectors, and those that value resolution and fps. I've really come to appreciate 1080P and 60fps... at the very least give us one of the two.

In other words, Microsoft literally paid them to keep it 900p on the PS4. There's not even a question or conspiracy theory this time, they're admitting it. Assassins Creed's lead platform for this game, for advertising purposes, is the Xbox One.

That's coming in a later patch.

I gotta say though, I really didn't see this coming. First you had destiny running like garbage on next gen because last gen couldn't handle 60fps. Now this. I honestly didn't think any self respecting dev would downgrade their game on purpose to make the inferior versions look better in comparison. I can understand making a game that runs fine in 1080 on the Xbox and not doing anything special for the ps4, but to take a game that can run perfectly fine in 1080p and force it down to 900p just so the Xbox players don't get butthurt is absolutely unbelievable.

Just when I thought ubisoft couldn't hit a new low. God forbid someone selected their hardware based on its graphical power, now they're not allowed to enjoy that because people on the internet are going to talk about how one version is better than another? What the flying **** are they thinking? I guess they have to lock the PC version to 900p/30 too now? It's the exact same logic.

I agree with the disappointing news. But does anyone buy the claims in the linked article that both systems are limited by the CPU's and the AI's demands on them? In other words, is there any reason to think that Ubi could give PS4 owners an improved graphics experience if they really wanted to without compromising in other areas?

Yeah, there's no debate about that whatsoever because resolution is *entirely* dependent on the GPU. If you're CPU bound by definition it means you have GPU capacity to spare.

For once I actually think there's something to the conspiracy. Microsoft has been working really hard to achieved the fabled "parity". It doesn't necessarily have to be a quid pro quo, but I can certainly see Ubisoft willing to make concessions to appease microsoft. It's still absolutely disgusting either way and yet another example of how consoles are now doing more harm than good for gamers and gaming in general.

There's no conspiracy here. Microsoft has publicly stated about Diablo and Destiny that non-parity is "unacceptable." This game has a co-marketing agreement with Microsft, has shown up at their conferences, and has only been shown running on an Xbox One besides in Sony specific trailers. If this is a conspiracy, it's the most transparent, obvious conspiracy ever after those comments.

I suppose there's still the possibility that like a lot of other games, including Diablo, alien isolation, tomb raider etc - that they have resolution parity but the Xbox one version performs poorly in comparison and drops frames more often.

It works for marketing though, which is why it seems to be Microsoft's preferred solution - you cant sum up performance with a single number and claim parity like you can with resolution. And ultimately that means an even ******** presentation for Xbox gamers. Gotta love it.

Here comes the PR spin (from Kotaku):

Quote:
UPDATE (7:15pm): And here's Ubisoft's statement
"We understand how Senior Producer Vincent Pontbriand's quotes have been misinterpreted. To set the record straight, we did not lower the specs for Assassin's Creed Unity to account for any one system over the other.
Assassin's Creed Unity has been engineered from the ground up for next-generation consoles. Over the past 4 years, we have created Assassin's Creed Unity to attain the tremendous level of quality we have now achieved on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. It's a process of building up toward our goals, not scaling down, and we're proud to say that we have reached those goals on all SKUs.11
At no point did we decide to reduce the ambitions of any SKU. All benefited from the full dedication of all of our available optimization resources to help them reach the level of quality we have today with the core Assassin's Creed Unity experience.12"
Though Ubisoft says they didn't "lower" specs on either version of the game, what they don't address here is whether they intentionally limited what one version could do. We've reached out for further clarification on that point.

There's still room for what he said before and that carefully worded PR statement to be true, but there has to be a sacrifice elsewhere. We're assuming both games render identical pixels and maintain the same level of performance...that doesn't need to be true. But they're not going to come out and say "the frame rate is a little ******" or "we worked really hard to optimize the Xbox version but got lazy with the ps4 version because we could." So we'll have to wait and see.

Microsoft demanded to have the resolution of Diablo 3 be at 1080p most likely to match the PS4 version.
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...mance-analysis

"We did find it challenging early on to get it to 1080p. That's why we made the decision to drop to 900. That's what we demoed and were showing around E3 time. And Microsoft was just like, 'This is unacceptable. You need to figure out a way to get a better resolution.' So we worked with them directly, they gave us a code update to let us get to full 1080p."

Almost seams like if Ubisoft were to make the PS4 version 1080p, Microsoft would have insisted that the XBOX version also be at that resolution because of the marketing deal they have with Ubisoft.

They can always try to patch it in, through a million patches. Every game I play has a million patches now.
