Which one should I get for Sony Sony KDF60XS955?

What wireless controllers should I get?

What other accessories for optimal performance?

This is not so much for me but for the kids when they come home.

Thanks

I hate PS2, PS2 is for jerks. Gamecube is for sissies. Xbox is for nerds. I own them all but I play Xbox the most. I am a nerd.

Which system?
Both.

Wireless?
I've heard nothing but good things about the 2nd generation logitech wireless, at least for Xbox.

Accessories?
If you get a PS2, you'll need a memory card. I did buy a PS2-controller adapter for my Xbox, just because some games play better with that controller (like Tony Hawk). Other than that, you don't need much.

Finally, get a subscription to Gamefly and rent/buy used from them. That's probably the cheapest way to build up a library. (Rent the newest, buy older used for cheap prices.)

--T.

PS I'm only half-kidding about buying both. However, depending on the age of the kids, you may want to consider the GameCube as well. Lot's of great family games there. Or, just bite the bullet and buy all three. Seriously. ;)

sometimes i wonder if people purposely post such threads just to start trouble. my advice to you billat is to go to your local eb games, take a look at the games for ps2, take a look at the games for xbox, count the number of games you would buy for each, and get the one with the most games you want. don't rely on the opinions of others. think for yourself=best option

Best advice. It all about which games you enjoy more.

I agree about going to the store and looking at all the consoles and their respective games. Chances are the console that offers the most games that you want to play will be the one you ultimately enjoy the most.

Don't discount the Gamecube though. It also has a solid offering of fantastic games. Too many people here discount Nintendo because of some "kiddie" image. I'm not saying the Gamecube should be what you get, just saying you should take a solid look at it since it is a viable option. Offerings like Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime, Paper Mario, etc. give the GC a very strong software lineup.

Good luck!

You really can't go wrong with either although Talbain's advice is pretty good. Personally I started out with the XBOX and later picked up a PS2 so that I could play each of the different exclusive games. I've had great luck with the Logitech 2.4gh wireless controller for the PS2 but can't speak for the other ones. If you already own a PS1 you'll still have to get a new memory card ($25x1, $40x2) since you can't use the PS1 for PS2 saves and vice verses.

It is really up the which games you will play. If you want to play online though I'd really suggest the XBOX.

I own both, the Xbox is a much better console and I find myself playing it about 10 times as much as the PS2 which collects dust waiting for something decent to play. At least GT4 is coming soon.

Every system has it's strengths and weaknesses.

The PS2 has the weakest hardware yet it has a number of games and genres that are almost nonexistent on some other consoles.

The Xbox biggest strength is better graphics and AV format capability and use such as most games being 480p as well as strong online play.
As with anything you have to decide which strengths suit your interests most.
If it's for the kids, I would ask them which one they prefer. kids are pretty sharp these days.

Yeah, that's probably the best bet, is to ask the kids which one they want. Trust me, they'll be unhappy if you get them one, but they really wanted the other.

But from a HiDef/graphics standpoint (since this is a HT forum), the Xbox, with its HD pack, wins hands down. The games just look very nice in 480p/HiDef. And they sound awesome in DD 5.1!

What games do you want to play? Look at the games list, and if the PS2 game list is more exciting to ya', get that. If you like the Xbox games then get that.

If you like Halo, Fable, and Crimson Skies then you'll probably want to pick up an Xbox. If you like Final Fantasy, Gran Turisimo, and Grand Theft Auto, you'll probably want to pick up a PS2.

It's coming to Xbox in June 06'.

There is some weird PS2/Xbox shortage going on. Everytime I go into a store I see signs posted saying it may be a month til stock smooths out. I don't know what is up with that.

I just wanted to reiterate what a few other posters said, don't count the gamecube out. It has some solid games and it's not just for kids. I myself have all 3 and the Xbox is my most played due to Live, and the GC is 2nd. The PS2 usually only gets touched when BIG releases like GTA or Metal Gear come out.

I don't know anything about the model of TV you got, but if your going to base your decision on how pretty the console can look, Xbox wins because alot of the games support progressive scan. A few PS2 games do too, but not many, and the GC supports it, but only on older models and the right cable is impossible to find.

I see those signs as well.

The GC cable isn't inpossible to find, it's pretty much only available from Nintendo.

I've seen lots of Xbox's popping up in (brick and mortar) stores all over as of the middle of this week (after being impossible to find for nearly a month). Most online stores still don't have their inventory stocked yet. The newest consoles do not seem to have the NCAA Football/Topspin games included though.

I think the major run on inventory had to do with newbies (like myself) taking the plunge for the value/price along with modded gamers getting a spare to avoid being banned from Live.

The PS2 had lots of heat related issues in the slimmer casing that prevented full production runs in time for the holidays.

Hi All,

If you have younger elementary age kids, then I would recommend the kidzy little gamecube.

But as for me, I have both the PS2 and Xbox.

Just for Halo2 and Xbox live is worth the price of admission.

Add to that, games in 480p and 720p. And LAN parties with system link and 16 buddies in a Halo2 Madness Shootout.

And as a bonus, the Xbox can be modded with a chip, and add to that a 200gig hard drive, and the Xbox turns into a wireless media player, where you can play downloaded movies on your big screen tv or front projection system, and games in High Def.

The Xbox for me wins hands down.

Just my 2cents, BK
