Have a question hoping someone can shed some light. On my PS3 I checked my speed up and down. I have a d/l speed of 8.7 wired and 8.1 wireless.
I have u/l around 2.0 My computer reads 25 d/l and 3.0 u/l. Is this common on the PS3 to have these internet connection speed test readings? thanks Russ

A Wired Internet connection will always be faster than Wireless because wireless signals can be affected by the weather & other nearby devices like a cordless phone on the same frequency as your wi-fi. The speed difference you're seeing may be caused by other devices using your internet connection while you're doing a speed test on another device. I recommend you do the speed test again & make sure all devices that use your internet are off so they can't affect the results of your speed test. Don't forget to share the results with us.

I will try that this weekend, and secure the other devices. The upload was only .1 difference between wired and wireless. I am having trouble with the speedtest.net, and my PS3 does not have a flash player thru the webbrowser. I found a website, but that was somewhat time consuming. Do you have a better way to check? Thanks Russ

On your PS3 go to settings, network settings & click on internet connection test or go to one of the sites below on your PS3's web browser. I've used them both on my console just fine.

Those sites gave me horrible results, but I did manage to find some insight on-line about changing some settings for my router.
I now have 22.2 on d/l and 2.2 on u/l so way better. Lag completely gone during gaming! Thanks for all the help Russ

Good to hear your speed problem is resolved. The sites i posted are the only ones i know will work in the ps3 web browser. What site did you use to re-test your ps3 speed?

Hi,

Forgive me if you've already solved this. Sounds to me like your unit is feeding 2 of 5 channels to the two speakers in your TV. Movie dialogue (as well as major portions of the rest of the sound track) is directed mostly at the center channel. If your TV is only receiving the FL and FR portions of a soundtrack, it will be far lower in volume than expected. Can you change the 5.1 channel source setting to 2 channels? I'm not sure how to do that in your particular setup, but low audio output over two channels is often due to mismatching of output modes. Are you using an AVR or other component between the PS3 and the TV? Are the PCM settings you mention from your TV or the PS3?

So my PS3 fat is overheating a lot. I can't even watch Netflix for more than a few minutes before it turns off.

I am going to open her up and replace the power supply and fan and attempt the re-flow and replace the thermal compound.

This will be a nice weekend project.

In the video setup. I'll look tomorrow for the exact location if you don't find it. Basically bitstream sends the raw audio to your receiver and your receiver decodes it and will show you what kind of audio it is. With PCM the PS3 is doing the decoding and sending the audio in the channels appropriate for your receiver leaving your receiver not knowing what the original audio type was. Either one should sound the same but many people like to have their receiver display the audio type.

I used to be able to watch 3D movies thru hdmi and optical to AVR. But now somebody probably touched the settings and now I only get 3D picture and sound thru my center channel. Can anyone go over settings that have the same setup? Don't have the coins right now to buy a new AVR but maybe I would have to buy a dual HDMI output player.. Thanks in advance

PS3 slim
How come when watching a DVD or bluray I get DD output but when streaming Vudu or Amazon I can only get PCM?

PS3 is set to output bitstream.

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

I have the video setup as HDMI 1080P and the audio as HDMI and Automatic. I also have the HDMI audio setup as bitstreaming instead of LPCM.

Before today, even at start or just at xmb menu, my AVR will show that it was receiving DD audio signal. And when I play games it usually shows whether it's Dolby Digital or DTS but now even at xmb menu, the AVR shows it is receiving only LPCM 48 audio signal although the light indicator on AVR that is usually indicator for DD or DTS signal is also on for LPCM 48 audio signal. And when it comes to DISC based games it now only shows LPCM 48 as audio and but the indicator light is on. But on downloadable PSN games like The Walking Dead or Papo and Yo, before it shows DD or DTS audio signal receiving but now it only shows LPCM 48 but it the light indicator is not on and it's only sending audio to my left, center and right speakers and not to the rest of my surround sound speakers.

This has happened to me before but I was able to fix it and cannot remember how. I tried turning on my TV and AVR first before the PS3 and vice versa. I tried resetting the PS3 to default setting. I tried unplugging power and HDMI cable on the PS3 and AVR. I tried resetting my AVR to factory default setting. I even tried resetting the video and audio of the PS3 by pressing the power and hold for a couple seconds to setup my video and audio. And none worked. I tried setting up the audio HDMI manually and unchecked the LPCM audios and it seemed to work on disc based games and it will show DD or DTS audio signal instead of LPCM 48 but on the downloadable PSN games, it's still showing LPCM 48 and only on my 3 front speakers.

In regards to Bluray movies though, its working fine and sending the audio signals I want even if the HDMI is set to auto and LPCM are checked, it's shows DD, DTS, Tru HD, MA and etc... Please help, any suggestions or advise will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
This is pretty much the same problem Im having but he got no response..

That's how mine has always worked. Amazon always sends LPCM. Netflix sends DD+. BluRays work perfectly. I don't remember what Vudu does, I haven't used it in years. I think the Amazon thing is just the way the Amazon app works.
