That is an awesome setup, and I am very jealous that the G25 seems to work with the PS3. When you say it works perfectly with RR7, does that mean you're getting force feedback effects/rumble and everything?

The original Ridge Racer arcade cabinet with the clutch is what really got me hooked on driving games, so it must be a blast to recreate that experience at home!!

If you really want to get into the racing experience and don't want to spend time building a full setup, this is a great alternative:

www.playseats.com

I've had my Playseat for about 2 years now, it's been very durable and has held up very well. Some of the guys I race with online go all out and have full wooden frames built complete with $600 three pedal setups mounted upsidedown for extra realism. One guy took an old Formula Continental body and turned it into a gaming rig! For now my DFP with the Playseat is just fine for me. I got mine for like $120 on special at WalMart.com, I think they are regularly like $150?

U know I'm not entirely sure but there were instances I felt the wheel rumble a little bit. I will check again.

But yeah its fun to use compared to a Sixaxis to be honest. You let go of the throttle and turn the wheel quickly to get the car to drift and maintain it. I have Ridge Racer 6 for my 360. So this freshen up the gameplay for me at least alot.

Hey Vincent - I had to build that stand - I couldn't find a stand that was enclosed like that, not silver and glass, and big enough to fit everything I wanted.

As for the speakers, they're Paradigm Studios and they're awesome. You can check the line out here: http://www.paradigm.com/Website/Site...udioSpecs.html

You can get a pair of the 40's for maybe 7 or 8 bills? . . . maybe a little less. You can also check out used gear at www.audiogon.com

Keep the pics coming everyone - very fun stuff.

awesome, awesome pics, Viper.

pretty big differences though - how much would you attribute to the camera? any?

and were your feeds of the DVD and PS3 put through different calibration sequences on the Mitsu 3000?

ie. does the 3000 have separate calibration options for 480p signals and 720p signals etc.

And maybe you'd be so kind as to answer another question - Do you feed the 3000 the PS3 video via component or HDMI cable? I'm intending to get a PS3 and an HD1000U but I was worried that the PS3's HDMI 1.3 wouldn't work with the Mitsu's lesser grade HDMI, whatever it is. But if you use component video cable then wow, still AWESOME quality.

thanks in advance.

that projector is from the guy that I quoted

I've got a 50" Samsung DLP tv

but anyways both are on PS3 runningn through DVI
both are using the same calibration settings

as for what would ohw much of the differed I'd attribute to the camera
I dunno. Next to none

I was pretty shocked by hw much better the Blu Ray movie looked

granted PS3 doesn't upconvert movies.................. 360 does so I put the dvd in there ever and watched and it still didn't look near as good

and Fifth Element is supposed to be one of the least impressive looking movies on Blu Ray

I have an XBOX 360 and the HD-DVD addon

Neither drive will up convert standard DVD's..only outputs 480 (component)
But my Pio PDP does convert the signal to it's native 768p

I suppose if you went VGA from 360 to Panel it will match your screens native res.
in essence "up-converting", but the Console or HD-Drive do not up-convert standard DVD's.

HD-DVD's play at 720p or 1080i over component (1080p through VGA)
Games on the standard drive 720p/1080i - component, 1080p-VGA

360 most certainly does upconvert SD DVDs to 720p/1080p if you are using VGA

in fact from what I've read the general consensus is that it's on par with an oppo dvd player

I don't know if that's a good or bad thing though

You missed where I said and intended ANY video signal sent through VGA,
regardless of source, is converted to a sets Native Resolution.

in essence yes its upconverted, but NOT by the source, but by the Display when using VGA

Otherwise the input on my Pio PDP5070 would not read 480i
when fed a standard DVD played on EITHER drive of my XBOX/HD-DVD through component.

It does However play Games and HD-DVD's on their respective drives
Through the very same component cables and my input indicator on my Pio
Shows its getting 1080i ...Splain Dat ?

explain what/

360 doesn't upconvert through component
only VGA

and it's internally converted and outputted @ 720p/1080p

this isn't exactly news

"Q: Will the HD DVD player upconvert current DVD titles

A: If you use component cables, the player will not upconvert DVD titles. If you connect a VGA cable between the 360 and the TV set, you can upconvert your DVD titles to 720p, 1080i, or 1080p - depending on what your TV supports"

Well I realise its not your fault, but that just doesnt make sense at all.

Why would the XBOX drive send a 1080i signal to my display over component for games
...but using the same drive and same component cables,
send a standard DVD signal to my dispaly at 480?

I dont need to play my games through VGA to get a 1080i signal to my display

Oh well, I already have a good up-converting DVD player
that has WAY more features and quality than the XBOX

VGA is required for 1080p, not 1080i. I think that's what he was saying.

Oh , I know that too

I'm saying its the same drive, same component cables, same display

if I put a Game in I get 1080i indicated source on my display

if I put a DVD in I get 480i indicated source on my display

Why?, natural assumption is that its not an up-converting DVD player.

I realize now that's due to component, but I would still argue ...why?
Other video devices are capable of transmitting 1080i through component are they not?

Why are XBOX users forced to use VGA to get upconversion?

Technically you can play games and upconvert sd dvd to 1080p using component.
But Industry Rules, it is not allowed DON'T ASK WHY.

Hey viper, to be honest i kind of like the SD dvd pic a little better, i mean on the blu ray you can't see the left half of the screen it's so dark w/o detail, am i wrong?

Took the words right out of my mouth!

I really like the SD version screenshot compared to the Blu-ray. I am not trying to rag on BR though (don't look too far into what i'm saying).

I really want to get a PS3, but I kind of went for the bigger TV (no more money, hehe). Least I get to live my dreams through you guys!

I know for a fact that viper has better blu ray pics, go back to page 3 and look at those but these for some reason or another gave SD the upper hand..

From the BD player forum, it is said that the PS3 outputs the black levels the same as a computer (IRE 0), IE blacker than NTSC (IRE 7). That's why the BD version is darker.

One other thing Sony needs to fix. But it should be easy, defaulting with IRE 7 but with the option of enabling IRE 0 if warranted.

If I'm reading Vipers post correctly then it would be my picture he is using for comparison. If so, then this is NOT a fair comparison at all. First of all it's not a good picture by any means. Second, the pic I took is on an angle cause the projector is sitting on the floor as it is not mounted permanently and the screen is just BOC. You also have to take into consideration the fact that my pic is from a 120" screen vs Vipers 50" screen. Like I said, "IF" it is my pic then this is not a true "apples to apples" comparison. "IF" I am correct in this then I will take the BD any day!

no, the picture I quoted were both shots from my tv

standard DVD on top
blu ray on bottom

ya it's darker, cuz the Blu Ray plays darker... which imo is way better
I prefer nice rich blacks to washed out greys

I don't know how you can think the SD looks better, the colours aren't near as good and it does'nt have close to as much detail(note the hair, it melds together in DVD but you can see every single strand as one in blu Ray)
