Hi,

Has anyone tested the PS3 with the Dell 2405 in both component and HDMI > DVI?

I'm keen to find out how it looks and if you can play Blu-ray movies via the digital connection in full res? (With non-HDCP protected movies)

Cheers!

Does the 2405 have HDCP over the DVI ports or is that just the 2407?

The 2405 does not have any HDCP at all!

No HDCP on the 2405. No can do. And without an internal scaler on the 2405, you're limited to whatever the downed res is for not having HDCP.

Is that only only HDMI on movies? Can I still use the digital connection for games? The Component for movies should be fine surely as no movies have the flag enabled?

I'm curious about this too. Apparently no one has tested this yet which seems quite odd.

Possibly because i does not have 1080 lines of resolution on the short side? I don't know, but I wouldn't think it would work over DVI - though component cables probably would.

Guys, I have a 2405 and will be testing it via component and HDMI to DVI cable. I won't have my HDMI to DVI cable until later in the week or Monday because of Thanksgiving.

I'll test it through component tonight and let you know.

On the 2407 front, I was told of a few things from Dell support:
- 2407 should display 1080p through DVI
- 2407 cannot display 1080i through component like the 2405 (feature/support removed)

Take that with a grain of salt as I don't trust Dell support 100%.

Okay, I tested the PS3 with my 2405 using a Mad Katz PS2 component cable:

PS3 @ 1080i & RR7 @1080i (OK)

PS3 @ 720p & R:FoM (OK)
PS3 @ 1080i & R:FoM (OK - displays in 480p)

PS3 @ 1080i & Blu-ray movie Talladega Nights (OK)

Once I get my HDMI to DVI cable I'll let you know the results.

Well, if the Dell support supervisor is correct and if it's the same as the 2407 (supposedly supports 1080p through DVI) then I'm hoping the 2405 will do at least games in 1080p - maybe not movies because of HDCP.

Once I get the cable I'll know for sure.

I heard that the 2407 supports 1080P, but only upto 720P with HDCP.

Bad news guys. Just tried the 2405 using HDMI to DVI cable - no go. Looks like component is the way to go with the 2405.

Sony just release official PS3 cables which include a DVI cable with audio plugins. It does not plug into the HDMI port either so it should help with monitors without HDCP.

Let me see if I understand you correctly. You mean it's like the PS2 component cable but instead has a DVI connector? Do you happen to have a link?

This would help people with monitors that don't have component connections.

No. It's not a DVI cable. It's a Japanese D terminal.

It doesn't work. I have a Dell 2405 and a PS3. I bought a HDMI to DVI cable. All I saw was some colored lines going vertically down my screen. I went back to the people that sold me my cable, and I brought my PS3 Quick Reference manual. The manual says, "If a device that is not compatible with the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) standard is connected to the system using an HDMI cable, video and/or audio cannot be output from the system. Copyright-protected Blu-ray video discs can only be output at 1080p using an HDMI cable connected to a device that is compatible with the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) standard."

The Dell 2405 does not support HDCP. I believe that the 2407 supports HDCP.

One can get high definition using the component cables, but the picture isn't as good.

Anyone want to buy my 2405 or my PS3? I need to get rid of one of them. I, either, need to buy the 2407 or sell my PS3. Actually, I like the computer games better than the PS3 games. One can do so much more with a computer game, and it is easy to upgrade a computer. I really don't even like the Blu-ray because it is a reader not a burner.

I don't care for Sony that much. When XBOX came out, they didn't make Xbox so Xbox would only work on some tvs. PS3 could have made it so that the PS3 could work on any high def monitor. It is probably Sony's high def monitors that are mostly HDCP. They probably just want to sell more of their hi def products. Anyway, this isn't good. Also, when I go to BEST BUY, the PS3 is always down, glitched up. Today, when I went there, they didn't even have the PS3 on.

The 2407 does support HDCP and has a native res of 1920X1200 (it's 16:10 as are all true widescreen computer monitors)

The 2405 has the same res but does not have HDCP

Guys the 2407 and the PS3 for BluRay movies is a no go, their HDCP implemention(i have no idea if they did or not) does not work, the movie looked like crap, worse than a normal DVD movie on my 100 dollars sony dvd upscaling player.

I guess this monitor will be useless for Windows Vista with HDCP also...

I called Dell support, they said this monitors will not do 1080p with BluRay.
It is interesting since they said it has DHCP built in when i purchased this monitor 2 months ago.
