HOLY COW!!! Well, it's not exact... it's about 3/4 of a mile from where I live.

Check out this site:

http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm?GetLocation

Apparently it looks up your IP location. It shows a map which is zoomed out to the city level. Zoom it in to see how close it is. You can also see a staellite picture of the location it spits out. Mine points to somebody else's house.

It also gives latitude and longitude. I fed it into my GPS mapping software to get the exact location it was pointing to, and how far it was from my actual location.
However, I'd guess it's not quite as accurate for users of city-wide wireless internet or satellite internet users.

So, how close does that site get to some of your actual locations?

Still confused? Read "

That website for me is off by several miles. Thats probably the result of having DHCP. My IP changes faster than that website updates more than likely.

with all that power under the hood they should be doing a 3d rendering. that way you could spin it around and zoom in and out to locate each dot. Then maybe each dot would contain the name of the user that you could chat with the individual you zoomed in on. Only if the individual wanted that information available to you that is. The other thing would be to color code the dots to see who the big folders are. Turn it into the folding@home community.

That would be a nice little addition but I wouldn't see something like that coming until they get "Home" up and running.

Not to mention the increased processor load, when those precious cycles should be folding instead!

All us old-timer Humanitarian Distributed Computing Contributors learnt long ago to turn off ALL screenscavers, glitz and showy stuff, and just let that baby churn!

Wow, that's quite a jump for just one day! My guess is that F@H 1.1 for the PS3 indeed included some optimizations to speed up the processing of work units.

Edit: Yes, definitely looks like there were code optimizations in F@H 1.1. Check out the PS3 team "Default".

http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...ary.php?s=&t=0

In the last two days, the production for all the PS3's on the "default team" jumped about 1.5 million points per day - from 5.4 million up to almost 6.9 million points per day.

Also, Team AVS should be in the top 300 by Sunday.

Very nice work yesterday everyone. Looks like those speed improvements definitely boosted production which was good for our team score and more importantly, good for the study of proteins.

Just wondering, what else you running besides a PS3?

Good work everyone on the folding... I will be adding at least an x2 AMD last next week. I am also looking at upgrading a different computer so an E6600.. we will see though... just had to buy a new lawn mower this morning

I have my PS/3 (which did finally take the 1.1 update)

P4 with a X1900 ATI card running the GPU folding
P4 with an X1950 ATI card running the GPU folding
P4 3.4 running DSL running Linux console
P4 3.2 running XP with GUI folding in the toolbar...(my wife has not found it yet)
Quad Core overclocked to 3.2Gz running XP console SMP folding
Dual Core not yet overclocked at 3.0 Gz running XP console SMP folding
3 Xeon machines running SLES9 running the Linux console folding
2 dual Dual Core servers that are running CentOS 4.4 x86_64 that I had running the Linux SMP console... but had to stop them for now.

I have switched which folding application I am using on a couple of boxes... so the machine total that Stanford reports may not be right.

Well, its easy to see why you are racking up the points.

We are glad to have you leading this team

With temps starting to heat up down here in Texas I have taken the PS3 offline for about 10 or 12 hours during the day. There will be some days when its gets to run longer but probably not many for the next couple of months. Which reminds me, I need to go fire it up for the night.

I know far too many people that have had to deal the problems that this research is trying to solve and since I am a computer person that has the ability to do this... It becomes a no brainer.

I agree 100%. I know several people as well that have been affected by these diseases. I'm happy to help anyway I can.

If we can keep this kind of pace we should find ourselves firmly in the top 200 by the end of May.

Is there something wrong with the servers?
My computer finished a WU 3 hours ago & it hasen't been able to upload a new one.
I'll know in an hour if it's affecting the PS3 too because that WU will be finished at 0230.
