I would be more fearful, but I've a feeling that is Chad Vader, not his older famous brother

I switched... now on the OFFICIAL AVS FOLDING TEAM !

...sig updated. Tindizzle... you might want to update your OP to encourage people to put their AVS names as their ID. Nobody's going to catch up to Mr. "PS3" on the stats page!

Go us! I'm gonna be running my PS3 from now until next Friday, 24/7. Who wants to wager on how many WU's I get through?

So, can anyone explain what this program does in simple terms?

The way I understand it, each of our PS3s are estimating the folding of a single protein out of millions of possibilities. And once we complete the calculations of our individual protein, the result is sent to Standford University and the data is used for comparative research.

Am I even close?

I joined (I'm mostly a lurker here too)

Before I hit 100% on the first fold, I noticed that my username was "PS3" for some reason. So I switched it and rebooted once I hit 100% because my PS3 dropped the wireless connection (always does )

Bottom line, I got "1 work unit" and zero points. What the heck are the points, anyway? (not that it really matters in the grand scheme of things)

Points are points. For ranking I assume.

Yeah. And the way they run it they actually have a lot of people working on the same protein. The one that returns with the lowest amount of energy expended during the folding process is the most likely way the protein would fold in nature. I did a lot of reading about this whole thing before, but it's been a while so what I said could be a little off.

Points are assigned to work units depending on how fast your computer is and the size of the work unit.

Count me in. First complete WU (second ever) should post sometime tonight.

BTW, the "CPU Statistics" are hilarious. With less than 10% of the number of CPU's as Windows machines, the Playstation 3 racks up more than double the total TFLOPS! Apparently the Cell is, like, REALLY good at these calculations!

Well, decided to join and try it out.

I will assume that it will fold while my machine is on and nothing is happening?
