I bought a new router for the wireless setup. I was getting a moderate NAT on COD, so I couldn't connect to all my friends. Internet should be working in there. I just switched out cables in there and still nothing.

Interesting.

Looks like the back burner is a good place to keep it until some more info about the new v7 folding client becomes available. If you take a look at the F@H blog http://folding.typepad.com/news/ there is quite a bit of new info over the last few days including a change log for the new client as it works through beta testing. The thing concerning alot of people, including myself, is a line in the change log that says "Use core count not thread count for SMP autoconfiguration." If that is really the way the new client will work then all the people with quad and hexacore processors that use hyperthreading to run -bigadv will no longer be able to do so.

Nothing concrete yet but that is how that line reads at the current time.

The good news is that AMD's new Bulldozer line is rumored to provide 8 core processors at about the same price of the Intel 2600k.

I had a major hardware failure where I lost the RAID on the main ESX server where all my business stuff is running. I had to divert all resources into rebuilding and recovering.

Basically, I had what my RAID controller thought was the loss of two drives in a RAID 5 array. In reality, one drive developed a bad sector and remapped it, but that triggered a verification of the array. At something around 95% complete, a different drive failed HARD.

The first drive was fine, but the controller didn't THINK it was fine, so the array went offline. I had to use a commercial tool to reconstruct an image of the array from its remaining drives--and for 3 TB, that process took almost TEN DAYS.

I'm happy (and a little proud) to say that I'm back and with ZERO data loss.

But man oh man that was a nail-biting week--once you're like 5-6 days in you just dread the possibility of a power failure and having to start all over again!

Wow. That is crazy. Definitely alot of data to worry about. Glad you got it sorted out and back to folding.

Thank you!

I am folding with a 990x CPU (liquid cooled) and two EVGA SC 580s(air cooled). I am kinda feeling out the power usage and heat generation of each processor. Currently I am using the FAH GPU Tracker V3.52 client that was posted a few pages back.

This client seems to work great for the GPUs producing about 18,000 PPD, but the SMP PPD is only 24,000-8,000 depending on the settings. I think the 990x @ 4.2GHz should produce ~50,000 PPD?

Let me know if you have any suggestions for my setup (client and/or settings). I would prefer to run the CPU most of the time and the GPUs less due to heat production/power usage.

Thanks all,
David

The 990x by itself should get you around 50,000 - 60,000 ppd if it folds 24/7 on -bigadv wu's (be sure to check this option in the tracker). A little less if you use it everyday. The -bigadv units are about 30MB downloads and once they are finished turn into 100MB uploads back to Stanford. They are all about the bonus. The base points are 8955 and then the bonus is calculated based on how quickly it is returned.

You could probably run the GTX 580's on GPU3 and the 990X on -bigadv and get close to 90k to 100k ppd total from that rig.

If you have any questions just let me know.

I like the Tracker application and am using it on both of my rigs.

Thanks PGA!

I just started my first -bigadv an hour ago and it is showing 2% complete. I am only running one GPU for now due to heat/power issues.

Thank for the help.

About 54,000 ppd...very nice. I get about 39k ppd on my dedicated rig with 2600k while running the gpu client as well. I'm thinking about trying 2133mhz RAM and see if I can get a bump in ppd.

I forgot to ask if you have folded smp before? Do you have a passkey? If not, you need to request one from Stanford, fold 10 regular smp wu's, and then you can get the bonus.

That completely slipped my mind.

Well the problem is that when i first started I was "Anonymous." So I don't really know how many smp wu's I have completed with my passkey. I should be pretty close to 10, if not over. Do the bonus points show up immediately or is there a delay?

The good news is that it is cold again, so I can use the two 580's to heat the house . Right now they are putting out about 19,000 ppd each, but the smp has dropped to 39,000ppd.

The bonus would post as soon as the stats update. I woud switch to regular smp until you start seeing the bonus and then go back to bigadv.
