each track will be 99 cents. However since the PSN team is on vacation this week these songs won't be on PSN till next week along with whatever DLC gets annouced for then.

I think this is a really wise direction to take the DLC every now and then. Doesn't really interest me, but its good to see they are addressing all audiences.

The PS forum is a nice place to be because of statements like ^^^ this... thanks Sean!

I wish this sort of maturity would bleed over into other (*cough* Xbox *cough*) forums.

my strummer is kinda f'ed up. Doesnt like the simple touch anymore, I have to go all the way down practically. Gonna go for a replacement.

I downloaded some songs finally and like everything I nabbed. If anyone is looking for some fun drumming songs get "I Fought the Law". That is just awesome to play. SO FUN!!! Fortunate Son and NIB are good too

My strummer started to go out as well, so I put in for a new one. I was hoping it would just be the batteries like kess suggested, but no dice.

I downloaded a few songs, but not 'I Fought the Law.' D/L'd 'Bang a Gong', 'Fortunate Son', 'My Sharona', 'Roxanne', and the Metallica pack. (Metallica was for a friend who was visiting the other day. Haven't given them much of a chance yet.) Those are all very fun, IMO. Pretty tempted to get some more...

This is an AWESOME game! I finally was able to play yesterday since I gave it to the kid for Christmas. Immediatley after hookup and poweron he was singing his heart out and mumbling most of the words and not doing too bad on easy. By 8:30am his buddies were over and (un)fortunately none of the kids was coordinated enough to play drums so they had me sit in while they passed around the guitar an mic.... We had a blast; just wish we could have used the Les Paul as a bass....

Great game!

I was pleasantly surprised at receiving this for Christmas. Didn't ask for it because of the price, but was wanting it. Man, this is insanely fun!

I have three questions now.

1) For those that are fans of the Guitar Hero franchise, how can GH possibly survive against something like Rock Band? I mean who would buy GH to play one instrument now that you can have 4 at your disposal?

2) How the hell do you pull off the overdrive with the guitar? I know you are supposed to tilt the neck upwards once your energy meter reaches half way, but everytime I try it, nothing happens.

3) Since game manuals these days are absolute crap, they don't go into detail as to what this means. On the guitar there is a switch to choose between wah-wah, flanger, echo, chorus, or none. What do those even mean and what do they do as the manual doesn't explain it?

Well, 3 instruments actually (unless you count bass, which would bring GH's instrument total to two). GH is still much more technically demanding for the guitar parts. Rock Band's drum play is ridiculously tough, though. Also, Harmonix/MTV didn't produce nearly enough copies/peripherals to meet demand, and it's twice the price of GH3. Also, Rock Band peripherals aren't holding up too well to prolonged use.

Keep trying. Works just like in GH games.

Just for fun. Just like the lead buttons high on the guitar's neck. Only there to add variety and fun. Unlike GH games, this game's not as interested in technical expertise; it's much more about having a good time with your friends. Flip that wah-wah on and act like Jimmy!

I would, it all comes down to the songs...of course..remember, kids, we are talking about a high-tech version of SIMON here....see the buttons light up and press the buttons in time....its hard to see where this franchise can go unless they add more fret buttons, more instruments, etc. I think the next release, assuming there is one, we'll see full size guitar controllers and some way to do true solos where they might have more fret buttons for true freestyle sounds..maybe 8 buttons for octaves and touch sensitive pressure buttons to determine pitch or something.

One, the guitar in Rock band really wants to be level when you play it so when you tilt up the neck it goes into its overdrive mode (or whatever they call it). Try tossing it up quickly. However if it STILL doesnt' work right, you could have a defective guitar...my guitar would NEVER engage "star power" no matter what I tried, other times it would fire off on its own for no reason....and my strum bar was flaky as hell. Go to EA.Com and get a replacement for free.

When you are playing one of the solos in the game, the switch will change the way the sounds...well..."sound". Its a personal preference kind of thing, I dont think it adds any points to anything...and it only works during the solo parts (where the fret is blue I think and you rack up points for an accurate solo (100%)....

1) Activision will do what they always do change two things and then just tweak everything else slightly and then improve teh graphics. They'll likely push a new controller for GH4.

2) tilt sensors on the fenders weren't calibrated well at first. The select button also deploys overdrive. RMA the controller if it become unbearable.

3) the others had good explanations. It just changes the sound of the guitar. It works when ever overdrive is turned on or when your in a solo.

3)

1. Whats overdrive? Does it only work for Guitar? Is it like star power?
2. How can a drummer or singer save another player?
3. Has anyone gotten the unlock all songs cheat to work? I tried with all controllers and got nothing last night.
4. If I have 3 ppl at my house and I want a 4th can I choose to have someone join via the internet or does it have to be all or nothing local or internet MP?

Like star power. Works for all instruments (guitars, drums, mic). Yes.

2. How can a drummer or singer save another player?

By using overdrive just like a guitar player. Drummer's get it by hitting the crash cymbol (green dot) at the end of a fill. Singer's get it during their shouting sections (the glowing yellow sections).

Should work just fine.

Pretty sure it has to be all local or all online for a single band.

not sure about PSN but on 360 you can have mixed offline and online players. however unless someone also has a gold account on your machine they will all have to be guests on your account. PSN probably has something similar.

Is there an intelligent way to pick opponents for online play? I prefer Expert and most of the people who end up being paired with me seem only at Medium. That's frustrating. Sometimes they quit out and sometimes they try their hardest and I feel bad. It would save a bunch of time if they would let us choose the difficulty BEFORE looking for an opponent.

Or am I missing something like this that's already there?

Thought I'd chime in on guitar problems...FYI, my guitar controller basically became unusable over the past 2 days. Replaced batteries, re-synched it, etc, but I had to bang down the - um, strummer?? (whatever the thing that subs for strings is called - very, very hard just to get a note to register. Good news is that the EA replacement process is very good - 2 day replacement shipping for free with ccard authorization.

Bad news, at least potentially, is that I suspect the replacement might be as fragile as the original.

I was going to just use the patch to use my GH3 controller, but alas, I now understand that's being blocked by Activision. Damm!t - no one knows how hard it is to be a (video game) rock star!!!

No worries, though. I'll just drink lots of honey tea, have my personal trainer arrange spa remedies, and get Helga to massage my back while my manager deals with my latest trashed hotel room. What, you didn't get the Super Deluxe Version of Rock Band?

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Rock On

The above explanations are inaccurate. The effects only go into effect when you go into overdrive, and the sound will resume in its normal form when your overdrive plays out. Wah-wah makes the sound shift tambre from toppy to muted, much like Jimi Hendrix's solos... think "Voodoo Chile" or music that accompanied any porno in the 70's. Flanger is similar to wah-wah, but with underlying distortion and chorus effects, and sets its pattern in a steady sine-wave. Echo is exactly what the name suggests. Your notes repeat softer after you initially play them. Chorus adds some reverb and plays the note slightly delayed between the left and right speakers, giving it a broad stereo effect... very nice. None of these effects will affect your score, they are just there for fun.

Unless, like me, you turn them on by mistake and then wonder "what the heck is THAT sound?" I couldn't figure out why the acoustic guitar didn't sound right in the break sections of "Long Time". But I eventually figured it out.

Thanks all for the info. Much appreciated.

Now for one more. Is there a way to register this game, or is it not necessary? I'm thinking that EA or whoever it is won't just replace defective units unless you have registered the game. I could be wrong, but I don't want to take the chance that I needed to be registered in case anything breaks.

I disagree. The GH series is all but dead unless they come up with some bigtime, revolutionary changes. And this is Neversoft remember.

I bought GH3 at midnight on launch day. The controller sucks, the lag sucks but I still played the hell out of it until Rockband came out. I've yet to play any GH game (i have all of them) since. HMX has Activision beat hands down in all aspects of high-tech SIMON: Controllers (the RMA'd ones), calibrations, gameplay, and even DLC.

Trying playing drums on expert. Far from SIMON. It as close to the real thing as you can get.

You can't register Rockband on EA. The game is not in their list of games yet. I've replaced a guitar and two kick pedals no problem.

Time for replacement, my kick pedal snapped in half and my guitar no longer strums down, only up

So, from posts I read above the shipping for replacements is quick?

After having the game for just a month I have moved up to HARD difficulty on the drums. I can get most songs but a few out there still destroy me like Detroit Rock City, yikes!
Its those double kicks with one symbol and one without that f's me up.

Sorry about your instrument failures. I used the express replacement option twice for guitars. The first time, I put it through Saturday night and it came Thursday. The second time, I put it through on Monday morning and it came Wednesday.
