Seeing as how Harmonix announced that Rock Band DLC will end in April, I would tend to agree
Quote:
As you may have seen in our recent announcement regarding the release of Rock Band Blitz tracks as singles, Rock Band DLC production has gradually slowed over the past five years. We have managed to maintain a consistent release schedule for a staggering 275 consecutive weeks, releasing over 4,000 songs for the Rock Band Platform, but in recent months we’ve scaled production down as we’ve transitioned resources onto other projects. With several new titles in development and developers needed to usher these new games along, April 2nd will be the last weekly DLC release for Rock Band.

While there is no content currently scheduled beyond April 2nd, we still have DLC releases lined up for the next few weeks, including the remaining tracks from Rock Band Blitz, several Pro Guitar upgrades, and a handful of artists who have not yet appeared in Rock Band. We’re incredibly proud of the DLC milestones we’ve set, especially producing the largest music library of any game available, and we wouldn’t have been able to release as much outstanding content without the support of our amazing community. As thanks to the community, we’re going to continue the ongoing DLC sale of 50% off over 1,100 songs so fans can continue to build their personal libraries from our back catalog.

We hope that you’ll all agree that this has been a tremendous run, and you should know it’s a ride that we at Harmonix have been thrilled to be a part of. We’re going to continue to support the forums and RockBand.com and hope to still see you rocking out online, in photos of Rock Band parties shared on Twitter and Facebook, or here on the forums. Whether you waited in line for a midnight release of Rock Band over 5 years ago, or you just joined the party with Rock Band Blitz… whether you’ve downloaded every single song we’ve ever released, or you’ve just played on disc songs until your neighbors moved away… whether you’re a metal shredder, or a bubblegum pop singer… thank you for being a part of our band.

While this genre has been dying out for a while now, it's not much of a surprise that this was going to happen sooner or later. But, I'm sure most fans of the game have a least a couple of desired artists that never made it to the game and now most likely never will and that surely stings. Would have been nice though if they kept releasing pro upgrades.

They did state "we still have DLC releases lined up for the next few weeks, including the remaining tracks from Rock Band Blitz, several Pro Guitar upgrades, and a handful of artists who have not yet appeared in Rock Band". Two of the "several" pro g/b upgrades will be for Blitz songs ("Jungle Boogie" and I think "Give It Away"). It's always possible that the band that you've always wanted in the game will be one of the "handful" of new-to-the-game artists.

I don't begrudge them the cessation of DLC production; like they say, it's been a huge run, producing 1800+ pieces of DLC, 339 on-disc tracks (256 exportable) and 2070 RBN tracks. RBN releases for Xbox will continue indefinitely, so who knows how much more we'll get. The unexplored back catalog should keep many people happy for quite a while. We who are hardcore fans will keep playing until we can't fix or replace our instruments as they wear out biggrin.gif.

I would have liked to have seen one more release but using a similar style as "Rocksmith" where any guitar/bass worked and you were actually really playing. I also never really cared for the pro-guitar charting in RB3. Unless you knew the chords that were coming down the lane, it was damn near impossible to determine how to replicate the blue blobs on sight on any difficulty higher than medium. Rocksmith, to me has a better interface that makes it easier to sight read and gives you more time before the note/chord crosses the line.

4 weeks of new material, with the last week being 1 song.

That's 10-12 songs left.

No way of knowing; last week we got a 5 pack of singles. Could be some big weeks as they dump what's left in their pipeline.

My friends and I will be playing this franchise until our drumsticks wear away to nubs. It's a great social gaming outlet and one of the best franchises of all time.

I still remember getting my hands on a copy of Guitar Hero on launch day, playing it all night long, and being part of one of the biggest surprise hits in Video Game history, and then watching as it all evolved into this beauty.

Good times.

Harmonix gets tons of credit for supporting the game this long. I don't even think die-hards can be mad at them. Activision stopped releasing songs after what, a year?

They finally give us some Queensrÿche and it's..."Silent Lucidity". Pfthfthftht. Should've gone out with a bang and given us Operation: Mindcrime as a full album. Oh well.

While I'm going to buy this song (along with the others this week) I have to agree.

I like Queensryche a lot, but I never cared for this song.

So... THREE NEW ROCK BAND TRACKS??? WTF???

I honestly don't even care what they are, I am so excited about this. But here's the link: http://www.harmonixmusic.com/blog/?category=rock-band.

Also, there is a new survey asking about what things you'd want in a new Rock Band. So if you want a new Rock Band (you do, don't you?) then fill in the survey already: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost...38&postcount=7 (Sorry for the NeoGAF link... I can't get the original link since I already took the survey).

Pretty stoked about this, as well, as I still love doing my periodic Expert Drum Workouts. Rock Band 4, anyone? I've purposely avoided even considering upgrading to an Xbox One because it wouldn't allow me to play RB3 and my 500+ DLC songs...

I don't care about there being an RB4 unless they can find some cool and fun new gameplay; I have an Xbox One but my 360's not going anywhere soon. I care about new DLC. If they just started the flow of weekly DLC again I'd be happy.

I'd buy an RB4 game but only if they can make my massive investment in hardware and DLC work on the new gen machine for free or for some reasonably inexpensive license transfer fees and hardware adapters.

How about they just make a RB3 (not 4) for PS4? Then everything transfers easy-peasy.

You think? I suspect that the music licensing is very specific. I may be wrong, since Rocksmith 2014 for PS4 and Xbox One can use the music that you purchased for PS3 and Xbox 360, respectively, without further license fees. If you want to keep playing the game on your last generation machines if you buy new DLC on them its automatically portable to your current gen machine. Of course, RS2014 has a minor fraction as much DLC as can be played on RB3.

It's actually kind of handy that the PS3 instruments used USB wireless dongles; they could be straightforwardly replaced with versions for PS4. The situation is more complex for Xbox.

So, I picked up all three tracks, because why not? I couldn't preview them in the store for some weird reason.

Anyway, I liked them all, playing expert pro drums. Nothing particularly challenging for a good player (I am only okay) but they all had something fun and different.

And here it is: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1004449

ROCK BAND 4 - PS4 & XB1, FALL 15.

It's pretty much everything I wanted: focusing on core instruments, includes Pro drums (no pro guitar, no keys), all DLC comes over (as long as you are on the same platform family), instruments are backwards compatible.

Only bad news is I am gonna need another PS4...

Meh. What I really want is new content for RB3. They promise to support the legacy DLC and are working to support the legacy hardware but unless they can support my substantial investment in guitar controllers I'm probably not interested.

Of course if they actually add some revolutionary new gameplay dynamics then I might come around and sink more money into hardware.

Sounds good, confirmed your music library carries over but they seemed non-committal on the hardware. If it does, I will purchase.

Hope they can add some new innovation since RB3.

in addition to the uncertainty on the last-gen hardware, the setlist from RB3 won't carry over.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/03/...4-and-xbox-one

"Due to licensing restrictions, Rock Band 3’s on-disc music will also not be available in Rock Band 4, though Harmonix told IGN that it’s possible that a deal could be reached in the future for this to happen."

Yeah, don't read too much into that. All of the previous games required licensing after the fact (which is why their setlists didn't come over completely). I would be shocked if there isn't an RB3 export within <6 months after RB4 ships.

I'd have to go back to look, since it has been a long time, but I know the RB2 export came out several months after RB3 dropped.

true, sounds like a license fee ($10?) and possibility of some individual songs not carrying over

Nope--it was available on launch day, at least for Xbox 360. Knowing that you want an export I should think that you'd start working on licensing on the day that development of the game was greenlit.

The other games have packs of songs which were purchased as DDs for your last gen console; the unique thing with RB3 is that there is no last-gen pack on PSN or XBL.

Hm, maybe it was the Rock Band 1 export that was late. It was a long time ago... in any case, thanks for the correction.

> Knowing that you want an export I should think that you'd start working on licensing on the day that development of the game was greenlit.

There are a lot of things they have to get done -- like licensing the disc songs for RB4, as well as re-starting the DLC pipeline at whatever rate they are shooting for. It isn't high enough on their priority list for it to get priority like that. Doesn't mean it won't happen. I fully expect it won't be there when the game releases.

As far as RB3 being unique that way... I don't really see that as being a big deal. There is no RB3 export because there is no RB4 (yet). There was no RB2 export until RB3 was released. There is also no PS4/XB1 DLC, it's all last-gen. If they want to do it (and I think they will) these are not impediments.

They need to make BW compatibility work.
1) it will encourage all previous owners to purchase because they already have all the gear
2) the old gear will eventually break (who hasn't gone through a guitar or two) and require the users to buy new gear -- so they'll still get the sales with more customers in the mix to boot.
3) I bought that expensive last hour keyboard that didn't see much content -- and light kit/smoke machine darn't --- let me use them!

Keyboard is out. They are open to adding it later but no guarantees.

They're going to try and make equipment work as much as possible. Will be interesting to see how close they can get, I imagine getting stuff (some of which dates back to PS2) to work on the new consoles is going to be a lot of work for them.

It was for RB3. They knew from the RB1 export reception that there would be popular demand for an RB2 export and they made it happen at launch.

Of course, they may not be planning to make the effort at all. RB3 did not sell nearly as well as RB2 and for multiple reasons I think that RB4 can be counted on to not sell nearly as well as RB3. Might as well not sink too much money into developing it.

I know that if they can't port all of the songs that I can play in RB3 (at least the ones that I do play) and make my old guitar controllers work, I'm probably gonna pass. What I want is new songs to play; the old game was just fine. I'd buy a new game with new songs for my old console without thinking about it. I cannot imagine what new gameplay mechanics that they might add which would make me want to buy new equipment. (Or play with anything other than my wooden Strat replicas--I started playing on PS3 but switched to 360).

It wouldn't surprise me if the majority of RB3 players hadn't purchased new gen consoles yet.
