Anyway, I thinks the 1080p option is 960x1080.

Either way, the game is incredible production value vise. Top notch graphics, realistic atmosphere, sound... Very rich Nex-Gen enviorment, makes you feel like you're really there.

But that makes sense.

The developer can choose which resolution is the default resolution. Since it is likely a 720p native build, they spit out that resolution by default. You can then scale it any way you want.

If you want to rely on the PS3 to scale it for you, then you have to override the developer's default choice and uncheck that resolution.

Sounds like you'd be in favor of a Sony firmware update that added the option "Force upscale (when available) to highest selected resolution". That's cool... but not everyone would turn that option on... I would assume a lot of people around these parts (AVS) wouldn't use that option, being that they have some very expensive dedicated scalers in their HT setups.

Edit: Oh, wait... sorry... Are you suggesting that maybe it isn't upscaling when you use resolutions higher than 720p? Or, more clearly, that the developers might be providing different native resolutions (that the Ps3 horizontally scales)?

Either way... If you're judging on THIS particular title, they play GREAT on both systems... The only notable difference is the better online friends communication features that come with Xbox Live.

You're preaching to the choir on disc media. Thats why I chose the PS3. Just saying that a lot of people were and are interested in differences in cross platform games, despite the thread policing protesting the discussion.

I just bought it today (ps3), and after playing a few missions of SP and a couple rounds of multiplayer, I can easily say it is the smoothest running game I've ever seen, and definitely the best looking shooter on the ps3. I have GRAW2, RB6:V, and I've played my friend's RFoM quite a bit. This just looks amazing...

It's unreal how much crap is going on at one time, and the game never slows down (at least that I've noticed).

i played the GRAW2 demo and found it so-so, and i played a couple levels of RB6 Vegas and didn't like it at all. Controls were too clunky. Infinity Ward knows how to make a game control amazingly, and the fact that the action doesn't even stutter is incredible.

Same with mine. I have a Sharp Aquos 42", and the game defaults to 720p. Spent a lot of time trying to find the menu option for graphics resolution, and finally decided to google it.

I, too, refuse to disable the 720p option on my PS3. The game should have a resolution option if it says it supports 1080p, or pick the highest resolution available by default.

On another note, I played using SplitFish FragFx, and holy cow, I felt like I'm playing on the pc. The mouse tracking is really smooth. I use sensitivity of 7 on the game setting, and 1 on the FragFx. It was really that good.

I think the biggest knock on this game is going to be the SP length.....Two of my friends have already almmost beat it, and they just got it tonight. I've played a few hours and I'm pretty far into it......The experience is fun, but in some senses its too easy on 'regular' mode.....I wish they had made the SP longer.

Ugh...no the biggest knock is the matching system on multiplayer; at least on PS3. You can form up a party and all play together in ranked or unranked matches, which is great. But if you just want to go online and see what games your friends are in and join those? No dice. You have to be invited.

This means that they have to be looking for you or expecting you. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I spent just as much time in the waiting to connect screen as I did in the game itself. Until a FW upgrade adds the ability to access XMB and send & receive messages in-game, I don't know how you're going to make your friend aware that you're in COD4 and need and invite to his/her game. I don't want to have to keep checking my friends list in the middle of a firefight!

Agreed. Add to that the lack of in game messaging (not even saying via XMB, like R6V) to see what's going on with your friends. Big mistake for a game that's pushing MP online play with a shortened SP game.

We've seen what game devs can do with games and PS3 hardware. Resistance, like it or not has, become the benchmark for PS3 shooters. Sony needs to enforce standards or make the required FW update to give all the games a level playing field.

Still I find COD 4 a graphical marvel. I can't believe what we're getting out of the PS3 now (finally). Super smooth gameplay and awesome graphics are a welcomed treat over other sub par multi platform games.

Any one here notice that the LFE channel is dead on this game? You get bass but not from the Subwoofer when running a HDMI 7.1 connection and can anyone else confirm wether its 5.1 or 7.1 sound.

Thank You.

I run a HDMI 7.1 setup and although I couldn't keep it to loud since I was playing really late I believe my LFE channel was working. Even at the low volume level the explosions really packed a punch. I will have to take a closer look now to see if it was my subwoofer or my towers that were creating the bass. I really hope the LFE is not broken though cause this is the perfect game to really let my system come to life when I can crank it.

Now that you mention it, I don't think my bass shakers shook anything last night. (on the 360, btw) But I'm not sure I had it turned up enough.

I run an hdmi 5.1 setup, and the LFE was there, explosions and gunshots were insane, to say the least.

Not sure if that helps tho

Ill try running it 7.1 tonight ive been too lazy to mount the rear surrounds, this will give me an incentive

I decided to get this for 360 (since I have 4 controllers on it) and this game is pretty good. The graphics are much better than GRAW1 & 2 and RB6LV but I do miss the cover system a bit since I keep getting hit while I am behind something because my head is still visible while crouching. I never was a fan of any of the Call of Duty games but this one plays very well and on Hard the big firefights are wild! Haven't tried online yet but I may give it a go tonight.

Picked it up last night and got through the C-130 flythrough. Really sweet game, I'm still not quite where I'd be with mouse/kb, but getting decent. The biggest difficulty is in aiming for me, especially when I go to shoot one guy and then right to the next. I end up just spraying all over the place hoping I hit both of them. Oh well, I don't know how well I'll do at MP, it's too difficult to track a moving target with the joysticks right now for me, but I'm getting better.

I played the game for over 5 hours last night (4 of them online) and had a blast. This game is incredible! It looks amazing!!

Bravo to Infinity Ward for not doing a lazy port. They really did a great job on this game. IW has proven that it is not hard to make a great game run 100% on the PS3.

For some reason I wasn't able to connect when I tried Multiplayer. I connected fine for Resistance though. Did anyone else have this problem? Kinda sucks sense the Multiplayer was the main reason I bought it. I'll have to try again later tonight.

I tried signing in for the first time on my lunch break today. I was at the connecting screen for about 3 minutes, then I got the 'Signed In' message at the top right of the screen. After that happened I got right in. So, at least for me, the delay was not being signed in to PSN before I attempted to get online with COD.

I have a Pioneer VSX-9120txh aka "91TXH" and it shows that the LFE signal is there but the cool thing about this receiver is that it will also show you when the LFE is being sent a signal and it never shows that with this game it has bass but not from the SUB, its all coming from my towers.

Is this a 7 channel game or 5 channels? just want to confirm.

Low Frequency Effect. It helps to send low frequencies to the subwoofer. Sometimes the output for the subwoofer on a receiver will be labeled the LFE channel.

The multiplayer of this game is like crack in game form. I played till 4am yesterday and had to tear myself from the screen to stop playing. Cant wait to get online tonight

Do we have any AVS call of duty 4 game nights yet? Maybe we should start a seperate thread and organize some games.

I dont know if its me, but do the graphics look better in MP than in SP?
Maybe I was too busy analyzing the SP and was looking for problems but after playing online for a few hours my memory plays back nothing but beautifulness.

Just a few things about this game:
1. Even though the opening trailer is the same as what I've got on my computer...it doesnt look as good on my TV. Dunno why.

2. I was honestly expecting more out of the graphics, however I think Im at peace with myself that I've created some unrealistic expectation of what games should look like.

3. Im only like two hours into the SP but the story seems pretty bland to me. Even the (real) opening scene, I thought could have had more impact.

4. Sony should steal the MP team that worked on RFOM's online implementation and make them the official Sony ps3 "how **** should work online" team. The lack of features when trying to communicate to your friends in this game is rediculous.

5. The knife is completely broken. I cant understand how it made it out of beta with a damn near 5' radius and being a 1hit kill.

6. Regardless of everything I've posted before this...the MP is hella addicting and I am completely stoked to play tonight.

7. The kill-cam is pretty awesome. If they ever work in a way to save clips to the hdd I can imagine some fun being had.

(avarice and cysquatch and whoever else we were playing with: good games...we struggled a bit but it was fun. we need to get a private game going with some more people from avs so we can get to know each other more in game)
