Excellent. Thanks guys. I'll have to preview the girl one to see if it's family friendly enough. My wife like's the Mario one right now. Do you think she'll notice?

I heard you can actually use the ps3 browser to download a theme as long as its a PS3 friendly link. I'm just not sure where to save the pt3 file so that you can install. I downloaded mine to the photo folder but when I tried to install, it didn't see it. Anyone know?

Hopefully someone can help me out. I downloaded and installed a few of the themes on my PS3 just fine. I was under the impression that the themes would change/rotate every time I turn off/on my PS3, isn't this true? If so, how do I set that up? I turned off/on my PS3 a few times last night and the theme never changed.

Thanks

Your fine bud..just having fun. Anyway a quote:

"When a theme file contains more than one background design, the background will change at random."

check this link. I think the theme has to have more than one background in the file for this feature. I have no idea how this works though. I am pretty sure the theme on the psn does this. It will randomly switch backgrounds. I don't think the ps3 randomly switches the themes though..but I may be wrong

I made my first PS3 theme. My theme is based on my nature photography and all three of the backgrounds are my photographs. I changed the main icons using photo clip art that I already owned. I have a few more ideas for some good themes. Critical feedback is welcome.

I'd do it if I had good source material.

Strangely enough, I might have something. When I get back home this weekend I'll have to have a look. Was at Kohl's the ohter day and got a Peanuts Christmas shirt (early, I know, but it was $6 so I couldn't turn it down.) I'll have to see if I can get a clean scan of it.

Also, if anybody could put together a good Garfield theme, I'd appreciate it. We have the same birthday

Is there a way to change the name of the theme? I downloaded 10 themes and 7 of them are named "sample" on the ps3.

Couldn't you save the file to your PC, rename, then put it on your PS3?

I've tried that. It renames the file on the PC, but when I get ready to install it on the PS3, it still says "sample".

The name is contained in the xml file which is not accessible once it has been compiled into the p3t file. I changed the name of mine before posting it but I have noticed that many people have not. I don't know if there's a way to uncompile a p3t into all of its component files so that you could change the xml and then recompile.

OK, here's how you'd do it.

thanks! everything extracted perfectly, but there is no xml file in the extracted folder. Do I have to create a whole new theme just to change the name of a theme that already exists? I think that's what the directions say to do on the link, but I hope I'm just reading it wrong. Is there a way to create an xml file for the extracted theme? That would solve a big problem.

You probably just have to copy the xml file from the "sample" folder from the compiler program. Assuming that the author didn't change any of the names in the xml file you can just use the master file that they originally used. I'm assuming that they didn't change the xml file since they didn't bother to change the name. Copy that xml file to the folder that you decompiled the them into and then edit it in a text editor. Change the name of the file and the information inside just to be thorough. I haven't run the decompiler yet so I'm not sure but did you double check for the xml file? The name of it will be sample.xml but depending on your options in windows you might not see the .xml part of the name.

There's a link to the compiler in the link that gave you for the decompiler if you haven't downloaded it yet. You'll need the compiler anyway to make it back into a p3t file.

thanks man. I just went ahead and replaced all the icons. It seems that when a p3t file is extracted it is totally different ie the icons.6.png file says icon_user.gim.png. I extracted a couple more files and they are all the same. All the files have been changed to their actual icon id. This is gonna take a while.

That blows! I wonder why it does that? Anyway, good luck with it!

Here's my favorite site allps3themes.com.

You dont need a memory stick or download to your pc. Just go there from your ps3 browser and download them directly. Man, that saved me a ton of time. I pretty much just downloaded all of the top rated ones. Check it out.

Thanks, that link works great! Themes only take a couple of seconds and no memory card transfer needed.
