Any ideas on how to stream from Mac to PS3 with the new update? I'm new to this and I looked through the thread referring to 1.8 but I'm wondering if there is anything new based on the new update?

We Mac users have few options so far when it comes to what we can do and how our hardware can interact with the PS3 (see no Mac iPod support as of yet - only Windows formatted ones).

I'm running a trial of TwonkyVision right now that seems to be working quite nicely and seems pretty straightforward to set up if you find the instructions...lol. The PS3 recognizes your Mac as a server over the network as soon as Twonky starts sharing. Pretty cool.

Hmmm. So 2.10 hasn't made things any easier, eh? I'm fooling around trying to figure out eyeconnect at the moment. I'll look up Twonky in a bit....

I use Connect 360 for my Macbook and it works very well. They are working on a PS3 version:

I tried EyeConnect a while back and the trial expired. I didn't have much success. Twonky is/was way easier to use on the PS3 side of things. It's initial set up on you sharing settings on the Mac side of things is more like a router interface so EyeConnect surpasses it in that regard.

I just got my PS3, and am. using EyeConnect, with success..Twonky maybe be the way to go though, without having to pay for EyeConnect..

I store all my media on an external HD....There should be a way to use a networkable external HD with the PS3..

I had the opposite results. EyeConnect worked right away where I had problems with Twonky. Setup is much smoother on EyeConnect. Twonky has a LONG way to go to being user friendly.

EyeConnect was easy to set up - the problem was that the connection never remained constant. Maybe I'll have to give it another shot. Twonky can't recognize half of my files, so I'm giving up on it.

That's an Idea...

Twonky is ok.. I store all my media on an external, and so my movies never show up.. Connect 360 works great for my 360 and the Mac.. Let's you select the folder to share...

Hopefully ConnectPS3 will be just as nice.

I can't get Twonky to work correctly..not sure what I'm doing.

The connection between my Mac and the PS3 keeps cutting out after 10-15 seconds after it has connected. And its constant, never connected for longer than 30 seconds. What am I doing wrong?

I'm running the latest trial version of Twonky, and Leopard on my Mac...any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've been using EyeConnect lately and it seems I get connection dropouts on one of my routers (Netgear) more than on my other (SMC). I've mostly just been copying files over though. I'd love to try having both wired but I don't think I'll be able to in the near future.

Mediatomb is free and works on the Mac, although you have to install it through fink which can take a while. I'd post a URL but the forum won't let me.

For the people having trouble with disconnects in twonky (and I think mediatomb needs it too), if you have parallels or vmware fusion installed, be sure you set the server IP address in the configuration to the real ethernet address. The extra interfaces to support the virtual machines can confuse the server.

Sorry if this question is a bit of a re-hash or a bit off topic, but does the ps3 upscale streamed SD DVD ripped to media server or NAS.

Just climbing the curve.

Can't get it to work. Get numerous errors and no photos or tracks come up.

iMac wirelessly connected to Apple Airport Extreme. PS3 hardwired to Airport Extreme.

I got similar errors with Eyeconnect, but could at least get it working...can't get it to work with this...

Hmm....

Great so far -finally a seemless, Mac-friendly Media server app that doesn't require a 2 year degree in network admin.

Haven't tried video yet...

How does it handle AAC files (protected and otherwise)? My biggest beef with Twonkyvision is that even with ripped AAC files it won't recognize them.

I have not been able to stream any media with MediaLink. It sees my music folders but doesn't recognize my apple lossless files and crashes when it tries to play .mp3 podcasts. Whenever I go back to the mac it is always disconnected from the PS3 (well under the 30 minute trial). My server is a 1.25 G4 (1GB ram) mac mini that has no problem distributing audio, pictures and videos to my 360 (I'm using it right now).

I guess I have to continue streaming .mp3 from my Ubuntu box to my PS3 via mediatomb. As soon as MediaLink is fixed, I will gladly give them $20 just to stream from my mac.

I'm also getting network errors. I'm using Airport Extreme. The Nullriver FAQ says something about needing to disable NAT on the Airport Extreme. When I try this, I get a message that says I must use "Static IP Addresses".

Sounds like a no-go. Ack... I've no problem with hosting media locally on the PS3 (I have a 250GB drive in it) but there are times with new video I'd love to stream it directly from my Mac - or my external drive connected to my Mac (wonder if that'd work)... Hopefully Nullriver will work out the kinks, so we can stream .avi files!

.avi streaming is working perfectly for me. I'm just trying to find a way to play .mkv without a lengthy transcode.
