If possible, get both. I play my PS3 a little more but I'm still not ready to get rid of the 360 even though it fails every 3 months.

Is it true that the 360 doesn't output 1080p? I read that the ps3 has sacd capability. I thought that went through analog cables or does it now go through hdmi. Which has better graphics for gaming? It doesn't really matter for me if the ps3 is backward compatible since i don't have any ps games. I like the 360 because of halo obviously and i heard they are on par or better than ps3 as far as gaming. I'm kind of like the ps3 cause of the bluray option. As you see i'm kinda of unsure right now. Any motives to one way or the other would be appreciated. Thanks.

The 360 does output 1080p.

There is a link around here (sorry I can't find it) that lists all of the PS3 models and which ones support SACD and which ones do not. I believe the newer models do NOT support SACD so be careful which one your buy if SACD is important to you.

By the way, both consoles are fantastic. Like others have said, why not buy both!

Since you mentioned Halo, you need to determine what is more important to you; gaming or watching films. For me, gaming and Halo3 is more important so the 360 is my choice.

To update to an old thread, i finally splurged on the ps3 40GB version yesterday. I heard the 80gb is no longer made. I figured it was a good time with getting a $100 off when purchasing an hdtv. I can't wait to get it hooked up.

360 has zero issuse with 1080p over vga and hdmi or component....although most tv's wont' take 1080p over component

The ps3 is actually the one with scalling issues. Most games are only 720p, and with no internal scaler like the 360 has, your tv will scale it up to 1080 and it doesn't look as good as the 360 does. Honestly, a 720p tv is best suited for this generation of gaming

I have all 3 systems btw

I'd wait on both. The 360 is supposed to be getting a chipset update this summer that will (supposedly) fix the overheating issue, and there are rumors of a new disc drive that will be quieter.

The PS3 is getting the MGS4 bundle in a few months- 80gb, backwards compatibility, a new Dual Shock controller, and MGS4 for $500.

On the other hand, finding a PS3 for $300 on ebay is pretty easy, and the 360 has a great warranty for when it dies. So pick your poison Both have great games, and I'd say the PS3 beats the 360 in features (not just Bluray).

Well it's downloading the version 2.20 software right now wirelessly. This machine is so awesome so far. Also, it is dead quiet. I have it on a glass shelf with plenty of air flow from all sides. I can't wait to watch bluray and play games on it. Do you like 720p or 1080i better for a 768p plasma? I thought i read 720p for games, but i was just checking. Thanks.

The 80GB version is definitely still in production. Sony's had some supply issues so availability may have been spotty but the company is about to release new software bundles (including MGS4 as mentioned above) based on this hardware version.

They did pull the 80gb from shelves (in the US anyway, not sure about other territories) but they are bringing it back to the US with the MGS4 bundle.
