Has anyone tried Winamp Remote as a media streamer for the Wii? (using the Browser as the client)
If so what settings did you use?

okay.. how about..

has anyone tried using any streaming software to use their Wii as a media server client?

The reason i am asking is to enable it's use in my kids room (which doesn't have cable or a dvd player).

I know that Winamp remote does have instructions on how to connect to it through a Wii, but it doesn't have any suggestions on the server side settings..

I have used Twonky Media Server to stream audio and pictures to the Wii. I haven't tried video. That would be cool if video worked too.

All you do is install Twonky, configure your media library, get the link to the Twonky media server running and enter that into the Wii's internet browser.

Let me preface this by saying I don't and have never used media streaming to the wii, but I did read about a program (can't remember the name), and that the wii would play video, only if it was flash. This media program would convert it to flash to be played back in the Wii's opera browser, since I believe that's the only video it will support. Obviously the quality isn't so great, but the Wii isn't designed to do this. Hope this helps.

In Japan, they have the "official" video streaming service (called WiiNoMa over there, I believe). Likley that an actual Wii video service will hit the States @ some point, too. The possible Netflix rumors have resurfaced again, too - tied in, no doubt, with the news of this video service (WiiNoMa, not Netflix) across the Pacific.

I used Orb way back when I first got my Wii. Worked great. Not sure if that's still out there or not, but it might be worth looking in to.

Japanese Wii owners will now see their available volume of streamed Hollywood films doubled, thanks to a partnership between Warner Entertainment Japan and software developer Fujisoft.

Fujisoft offers a 500 Wii Point ($5) download of Everyone's Theater Wii through the WiiWare download service in Japan, and that application in turn streams a variety of anime, domestic films, and Hollywood productions.

While the service has been operational since January, andriasang.com reports that Warner brings 54 new films to the table, with with the promise of more in the future.

That initial round eclipses the existing 34 Hollywood films, and comes close to the total 67 Hollywood, Japanese, and Korean features previously available. Until recently, the overwhelming majority of the content had been animated series episodes, of which there are several thousand to stream.

Fujisoft's channel is only one of the methods Wii owners will eventually have to stream video content. Nintendo has also announced a deal with Japanese firm Dentsu to offer original video productions through the console. That pay-per-view service has been pegged for a 2009 launch in Japan, with a later release in the West.

On our side of the pond, I imagine Netflix could rear it's head in the Wii Shop at some point soon much like how WB/Fujisoft has in Japan.
