I played online the other day in an unranked match and the guy I was playing was getting birdies on every hole...he made 2 or 3 shots from 150 yards out...

In online matches can people play at their own skill level? Is there an option to see where every shot will land if you hit it right? It almost seemed like cheating...I play on advanced with precision putting so I don't know what options there are...

Well I know in 09 a lot of shots seemed to roll in which probably should have stopped right by the hole. On this game I am playing advanced and they do stop near the hole. So maybe they are on an easier mode and it is making them drop. Even on advanced I have ALMOST made a hole in one like three times though so they may have just flat done a good shot.

Anyone live-playing the US Open today?

I'm going to try to and do round 1 tonight. I've only had time to play a couple holes total so far so my character isn't leveled up at all beyond the initial points that you get by default. Plus I haven't quite mastered putting, although I absolutely love it...miles ahead of the previous version. First hole I played, I needed to five-putt, lol. The rest of them were (mostly) two putts.

If I make the cut, I'll be pretty proud of myself

Disc golf is a wonderful lifestyle.

That is basically the throw I described. I just angle the disc outward a bit more, to get a high slight arc that lands the same way. And yes, the hammer throw DOES work in TW10!!!

While not a fan of real golf myself, this sounds like online players can sorta take part in real golf tourneys in the virtual TW world somewhat simultaneously? That is cool!

The more I read/hear about this, the more I am thinking I need to get me a golf game other than Wii Sports.

I assumed everyone on this thread was up to speed on all the online features of TW10, but if you are like JWebb and somehow missed hearing about the "Play the Pros" feature, here's an article on ESPN that describes it.

Great idea, and probably not a huge technical challenge. I assume the implementation will be very well done. If I have a chance to play tonight I'll report back.

Although with the current conditions at the real Bethpage (biblical rain), playing Round 1 tomorrow instead of today might be the norm.

Biblical rain and 20 mph wind, you mean. (In-game at least).

Edit:

.... And +11 and 79th place after the round. I could redo it for a better score, but I'll submit that one anyway. Not sure I'd do any better in those conditions, I just couldn't hit the fairways... or the greens... or putt.

LOL, 78 players got to start their round before play was suspended for the day, with the guy in last place at +10 through 10 holes. You might be in DFL, JHoff, but only by the slimmest of margins. I bet by the end of the real first round they'll be a few more scores in the 80s.

I don't think anyone should be allowed to replay a round during Play the Pros, but otherwise you'd just have people resetting their consoles after a bad shot, or playing multiple characters, or whatever else to get around it. So I guess it makes sense that EA just made this an official option rather than dealing with people complaining about cheaters and whatnot.

Anyway, I have a goal for tonight: +10.

Any word on where you can find a golf periphial(sp.?), aka a little golf club that fits with the wii motion plus?? You would think somebody would have developed one.

http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Golf-Club-.../dp/B000VL2VQO

Predated M+, but here is one of many that a Google search produced. The link to Amazon above has listings for other models of Wiimote "clubs" as well.

This is the Wii, remember....plastic add-ons are a big part of the "market" apparently.

Yea, I understand they are out there. You just have to find one that incorporates the new wii motion plus accessory

So I took Bethpage and its crappy weather head-on today (I didn't wimp out and try to play round 1 tomorrow when the weather is better) and was +5...my profile character is brand new so it was a real challenge on some of the long par 4s where I hit my first 2 shots 100% strength and still couldn't reach the green...my putter saved me

Is there any particular time it can or can't be played and count? Can it still be played right now? Any time tomorrow or by a certain time?

I haven't looked into this at all, so just asking in case I can get some quick answers before I have time to play.

I'm pretty sure as long as you get in 4 rounds by Sunday night, you're good. There's a countdown timer over the tournament calendar that says 3 days + right now. So no rush.

I played 8 holes and was like 13 over...mostly because of a hideous four putt, and also an 8 on the first par 3 with water where I dropped it in the drink...twice. (Didn't get enough power off the tee...splash...and then my next shot was deflected by a tree I thought I could get over...splash again) After the 8th hole I had to take a break and absently shut off the TV, forgetting that automatically turns off the Wii too. Seriously, honest mistake

PDawg, I am in awe of your +5 with an unimproved golfer. I was consistently getting power in the high 80%/low 90% range and felt like I couldn't get anywhere. That rough is brutal.

I miss the character voice from the '05 version. Not sure when they took that out, but I Scott Van Pelt has nothing on the classic "Get on the dance floor...GET ON THE DANCE FLOOR!"

Aren't we supposed to see the same weather that the pros saw today? The skies were dark but I didn't see rain when I tried it (I have Wiiconnect24 on).

Well is the wii weather channel still very delayed like it used to be? Maybe it had delayed conditions or you were playing when it stopped raining or something?

I didn't get a chance to play, so hopefully I do tomorrow.

What time did you play at? I think it goes by current conditions so if you played tonight the rain may have stopped there...

That's probably it. I played in the evening. That brings up something interesting. In a tournament like this, where weather can go bad at anytime, we can basically play all 4 rounds in a good weather window.

Can you play rounds 3 & 4 without the cut being established yet?

Here to help and learn. Thanks AVS.

Does the weather even matter much? On most sports games I ever played wind seemed to make hardly any difference and rain seemed to make none either.

It does in this game...when I played the first round at Bethpage it was raining which actually HELPED because I could stop the ball on the green easier...also putts weren't breaking as hard in the wet...I shot +5...

Round 2 today was cloudy and mild wind and I shot +14...

Really? For a videogame tourney? That seems pretty much on point, unless it's a giant tourney for a game that EVERYONE plays like Halo or maybe Madden or something.
