How so?

It doesn't toss you back to stage 1 everytime you die. And your only sent back to the beginning of the stage if you didn't touch the midpoint flag.

It's standard Super Mario Bros. You were never respawned right where you died to continue. I'd be hard pressed to name a 2d or 3d platformer where you were.

Nintendo did a great job on this one. I don't find much to complain about it beyond the motion controls. And running across Yoshi seems more uncommon then it should be and I don't like how your not allowed to keep him if you successfully reach the end of the stage with him like in Super Mario World.

If you play through to stage 2-3, then you drop down to zero lives, you start back at the beginning of world 2, and you have to beat stage 2-1 and 2-2 again.

Wario Land didn't play like that, that's the last 2D game I played. Mario Galaxy didn't either, you saved progress after each level you beat.

You have to beat the castles in the world to save your progress. After you beat the game, you can save after every level.

I didn't know that was what you meant. I never ran out of lives so I didn't know it did that.

If your worried your going to lose your progress, you could always jump back into world 1 and redo the midworld fortress there to save your progress. Only takes a couple of minutes.

NSMBW is pretty generous w/ the 1 UPs & that is weven w/o exploiting certain tricks to grab more.

IGN has a rather comprehensive guide to the game available online, including the various areas where one can really rake in 1 UPs - much like the original game.

Man, if you're having trouble clearing World 2, you will stop believing in God by the time you get to World 8.

Early on, I got the cannon in world 1 that goes to world 5. I didn't make it past the first screen in stage 5-1. Here's hoping I make it to world 8.

Yeah, good luck amigo. First time through, level 8-1 made me cry. Bleed. Self defecation. It was brutal having skipped the 'tester levels'. Still makes me smile and cry a little, simultaneously.

Not to discourage you, of course.

Sometimes this game can make you think Miyamoto is one sadistic bastard.

Let's not even speak of World 9, which will seem to be some sort of horrible, nightmarish impossibility.

For being such a "cute" franchise, many Mario titles seem to cause Tourette's levels of loud cursing when played (by me).
