The 3DS had been dormant for a bit lately, but Out Run has successfully got me reaching for it often again. The 3D effect is surprisingly good. Almost makes me want to go out and get a N3DS so I don't lose it from time to time! The new songs are a perfect fit for the game. It's awesome they burned a sound ROM and played it through an original arcade board to get the recording for iTunes/Amazon mp3s. I think Cruising Line is right up there with Splash Wave, my favorite of the original 3. I can't go back to playing the game in 30fps after actually seeing the difference. Well.... maybe for old times sake!

Probably a good fake, but Reddit found a TTYD 3D video... Even if is a fake, this is encouraging. DKCR was darn good on 3DS, more revamps like this would be amazing:

The Majora's Mask N3DS was restocked at ebgames. They had 1 in stock left last night when I called.... decided to not buy it since I have a full backlog already.... I surprised myself

I sold my 3DS before Christmas in prep for the N3DS. I think I am going to pick one up this week along with Xenoblade. I never had a chance to play it on the Wii.

I didn't realize that they brought NES Remix to 3DS, but got that today as a platinum reward. Drives me absolutely crazy that for the Mario stuff they force me to use B and A instead of the better Y and B control scheme. Seriously, I know we've talked about that before in this forum in regards to virtual console stuff, but seriously you would think the people who came up with the still-in use controller layout would realize that the way that puts both buttons under your thumb works far better.

Nintendo's insistence on matched button lettering, over actual comfort and playability, is why I have no interest with the Virtual Console on the 3DS (I'd of supported the Game Gear section, since that one does feature button customization, but Sega never actually released something like their 8 bit Ristar port that I'd of actually wanted).

There are a good 7 or 8 Game Boy games here that I'd love to have on the much larger screen of these XL models compared to my backlit Game Boy Advance SP, but the button mapping is too terrible.

I saw this a year or so ago and bookmarked it. It pretty well illustrates why this is such a problem.

Amazing that for some people, they're able to work around that with something like a Super Mario Brothers platformer.

Sadly, it almost was a non-issue, as this scan showing a prototype Super Famicom controller demonstrates (Note where the A & B buttons are; and I've seen later prototype images with C & D renamed to X & Y, before they completely rearranged the layout to what we've used since 1991).

Two button Nintendo games would've translated with their button designations and playability intact to four button Nintendo platforms, had they stuck to that layout.

Apparently there's an undocumented trick I didn't know about that they use to work around this in NES Remix. Instead of making it configurable in this game, they ALSO map the NES B button to X on the 3DS, giving you the better feel. It's not quite as good as B and Y, because the A button is a little close to the edge of the 3DS, but it's still better.

Besides the button issues with Ultimate NES Remix, I was reminded of another problem today while checking out a New 3DS. For a fair number of people, myself included, the low d-pad placement on the 3DS is a real issue in releases such as this one.

It's sadly a bit too low for me to be entirely comfortable with, a complaint I've seen others voice from time to time. As a result, if I had a game such as this one on the 3DS, I'd pretty much rely on the analog circle pad as a result. And that's a control method that isn't as ideal for a release such as this one that was built with precise 8 way digital control in mind.

Traded some old games for in-store credit (66$ for GTA5 PS3 and other oldies like Prince of Persia, NHL08 and 13, etc) in my local store... but they only have the old N3Ds

Guess I'll pick a N3DS somewhere else and use those credit for 3DS games, since they rarely go on sale anywhere.

Closer to my quest of not forking any $ to get the N3DS (50$ free GC and now 66$ store credit!)

Picked up xenoblade chronicles. Probably only played the original on the wii for 30 minutes or so.

The 3d on it is very well done so far.

3D Thunder Blade is now out for the 3DS.

It's currently the last arcade game slated for Sega's 3D Classics line, although some new Genesis conversions just were confirmed recently. It's the arcade material that excites me though, so it's sad to see what's hopefully only a temporary conclusion to it.

I guess woman listen when you speak. My fiancé got me a N3DSXL for my bday

So I'm now a new proud owner and I can't wait to replay OoT and MM (I bought them months ago before the 3DS).

Looks like Sega's impressive sprite scaling arcade racer Power Drift is the next one in line to receive a 3D Classics conversion.

Sega announced a North American retail collection today of several of these.

It will appear on April 26th for $30 and will include the following classics.

Altered Beast (Genesis version)
Fantasy Zone II: The Tears of Opa-Opa (New, not previously available off the eShop)
Fantasy Zone II W (The modern arcade port that runs on the hardware of the original game)
Galaxy Force II
Maze Walker (New, not previously available off the eShop)
Power Drift (New, not previously available off the eShop)
Puyo Puyo 2 (New, not previously available off the eShop)
Sonic the Hedgehog
Thunder Blade

Perhaps the only thing that doesn't please me here is the lack of any mention of it being volume 1 of hopefully a set. There's no shortage of excellent selections for a 2nd volume that deserves a retail release, so I hope this isn't going to be it. We still need to see the rest of these at retail.

Afterburner II
Ecco the Dolphin *
Fantasy Zone (Arcade) *
Fantasy Zone (SMS)
Gunstar Heroes
Outrun *
Outrun 3D *
Shinobi III *
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Space Harrier *
Space Harrier 3D *
Streets of Rage *
Streets of Rage 2
Super Hang-On

I've placed an asterix by those titles that Japan saw with their Volume 1 release. In actuality, what we're getting here is Volume 2 that Japan saw late last year. Note that the SMS version of Fantasy Zone unlocks in Japan on Volume 2 by having save data for Volume 1.

I suspect we're getting this one over the original because it includes the first Sonic the Hedgehog, a franchise that still manages to have selling power despite a long string of mediocre games in the 2000's and countless rereleases of the classic Genesis titles.

So if I decide to get this for Power Drift, the only thing I'd be double dipping on is Galaxy Force II. Not too bad, I guess.

They are painful to go back to. I've tried going back to them a few times, and I just can't. Gen2 is less painful, but Gen3 is the oldest gen I can still play.

I've never played any Pokemon games and was thinking of trying the new VC releases. However, once I heard they don't support save states I decided to pass. VC games are frustrating enough without save state support. Stupid decision by Nintendo to make these the ONLY games that don't support them. (Or at least almost only, not completely sure about that.)

Not really imo. Sure they're pretty basic, but I routinely load them up in emulators for some classic fun.

It's to prevent trade duping. trade away a pokemon, load state, you have it back again. I see WHY they did it, but it doesn't bother me as I'll only be playing by myself and not really trading.

Well, you can trade pokemon from the VC releases to the current gen, that alone is the reason for the lack of save states.

Still, you can import pokemon from the GBA and DS games, which have the same issues, and there are easy ways to import duped pokemon, so balance is already fubar.

So we're getting gen 7 this holiday in Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon. And for the first time you can transfer gen 1 Pokemon into the newest gen using the Pokemon Bank.

I picked up all 3 gen 1 games last night and have been on a total nostalgia trip. I also don't find this gen hard to play, it's simple and straightforward.

I started with Yellow version so I can get all 3 anyway. I haven't figured out how to get the Pokemon Bank to work with R/B/Y yet, it's supposed to but maybe you can't until you've talked to Bill?

Been playing A Link Between Worlds this winter and just wrapped it up.

I'm surprised that I saw some characterize this one at various places as a bit on the short or easy side. I died 3 times according to the death counter after the end credits and it was a good bit more than that in reality since I got in the habit of restarting so as to not lose my rented items (Compared to modern 3D Zelda's where you're virtually immune from dying).

And at just shy of 31 hours (And with a few odds and ends left to do like 5 heart pieces left to collect), I'd say that this is a pretty average length for a modern Zelda title. Felt like just about the perfect length and definitely wasn't too short.

I have very few complaints, besides the lack of a 3DS Player add-on for the Wii U (A gem like this deserves to be enjoyed on the big screen). It actually locked up on me once, something I've never had happen with a 1st party Nintendo title. And I felt like the Nintendo Treehouse performed localization was a bit lackluster and amateurish sounding at times.

But all and all, this is easily my favorite Zelda since The Minish Cap over a decade ago. I hope 2D style overhead perspective Zelda's appear regularly again after this.

I also played this recently (within the last year) and thought it was fantastic. I ended up completing and collecting everything, which meant playing through in hero mode and spent around 46 hours on it. I was iffy about the item rental going in, but felt it worked very well. I thought the wall-merge mechanic was done beautifully and it really opened up things puzzle-solving-wise. Hopefully we'll see more Zelda games like this one and less like Tri-Force Heroes. (To be fair, I haven't played the latter but I feel confident based on reviews that it will be clearly inferior.)
