I must be in the minority as I didn't like A Link Between Worlds that much. A Link To The Past is my favorite so you would think I'd like this one. I thought it was mostly too easy and short. I also did not like the renting system. Still a decent game but I felt like it was a let down, but then again I did pretty much only buy the limited edition LoZ ALBW 3DS XL for it. :/

I'm not sure that the renting system added much, but I guess they had to do something different like that if they wanted to keep the dungeon order as open ended as it was.

I'd rather see them hand out key items in a more traditional way, but still do so across the first 3-4 hours of the game so you can then have the freedom to decide how you want to proceed from there.

3 of these heart pieces just might elude me, I'm afraid. I don't see much hope of getting the one for the baseball minigame or the two rupee rush minigames (Which supposedly have a trick to them, but it didn't work for me).

That baseball minigame was ****! I eventually got it though. Rupee rush wasn't too bad IMO.

Earlier on this thread there's a post where I ripped on it a bit for the same stuff you're talking about:

The 3DS Thread

It was good, but not special.

I suppose I'm in partial agreement.

I quite enjoyed revisiting this familiar world that first made me fall in love with this franchise decades ago, but I couldn't help thinking more than once that I wish they had gone further by adding additional regions along its borders that were completely fresh or gone off in a different direction with a Dark World that wasn't just a edit job of Hyrule.

I wanted the best of both worlds. I enjoyed revisiting Hyrule from A Link to the Past, but I wanted to go past its borders at the same time to see something that wasn't familiar.

I wrapped up both Rupee Rush minigames tonight in 5 minutes. I cheated though and had a DVD playing on my tv and used the counter on the DVD player to time it each time so I'd get the end of round bonus for finishing within the final seconds.

Still not sure about baseball, but I at least understand now how the game decides what angle you're hitting the ball at. Upped my high score to 56, which is still far away from 100 (Which I believe is what I need to reach to get my final heart piece).

Still a few treasure chests I missed in one of my last dungeons that I want to reach. And at least one of those treasure caverns remains to complete, which has wind currents that you have to glide around to reach a 100 rupee coin in the middle.

I think that particular one was built with 3D in mind, making it difficult for me to judge in 2D (While I'm not playing on a 2DS, I'm legally blind in one eye and can't utilize the 3D effect).

For Rupee Rush I used the countdown timer on my cell set to a few seconds before the times up so I'd know when to head back.

Baseball ugh, I had a hard time figuring out the angle etc, I never quite did at least to be repeatable, I think luck is involved... From what I remember you gotta get enough rupee's in a row for the crow to come out and then you gotta hit the crow. When the rupees are low try to aim for the crabs. Repeat until you get over 100, which is way easier said than done. I maxed out my rupees and went an played it over and over until I got it. What PITA.

Picked it up again last night and quickly scored a 80 and then a 90 or so, so I knew I was getting close. Tonight, it took 2 or 3 tries but I finally got my last heart piece.

I also happened to talk to Mother Maiamai. I had talked to her since finding all of her babies and nothing much had happened. But apparently that's not the end of it, since this time she said goodbye and that I just had caught her before she left. She left one of her babies behind, with her and the rest of the babies departing for other worlds.

I think I've done and seen all there is to do now, outside of the StreetPass stuff that I'm not bothering with.

Honestly, my 3DS gets more use than my XB1 or PS4 combined. I keep buying console games, but they stay shrink-wrapped or get only slightly played. I just don't have the interest in gaming like I used to. But handheld seems to be a lot easier to drop in and drop out when I have some free time. And there are a ton of good JRPGs and tactical RPGs that are new (e.g. Bravely Second) or in the DS/3DS catalog.

Oh, and I agree with LTTP >> ALBW. But, it's hard to surpass a game that has decades-old nostalgia.

I agree. The pick-up-and-play nature of the 3DS is perfect for me. I bought Star Fox Zero in hopes of getting that nostalgic feeling of playing SNES Star Fox again. I even bought the Fox amiibo so I could play with the old Arwings. Sadly, I haven't touched the game in a week or two (I don't even remember how long it's been out now). I was hoping the music would be inspiring, like the SNES soundtrack. Nope. Disappointed. Hopefully I can manage to fire the game back up and enjoy it.

Nintendo announced a price drop on the 2DS today. $79.99 and includes MK7 (digital).

If you haven't tried it, this is the time to get in. It's my favorite Nintendo handheld since the OG Gameboy, but that's likely due to nostalgia. I'm a big fan of the shape and the weight, plus the controls are in the the right spot for my hands. Absolutely love it.

Had it received an XL model, I'd of went for that style of 3DS. I think it's more comfortable as well and the fewer moving parts there is, the better.

But to nobody's surprise it never happened. Between lackluster sales and the fact that a larger version of what's aimed at the under 12 market just doesn't make much sense, we never got XL size screens as an option.

A 3DS focused Nintendo Direct has been announced for Thursday.

In more exciting news, Sega has announced a 3rd retail Sega 3D Classics Collection for Japan on December 22nd.

It will include the remaining digital exclusives that have already been released on the eShop, along with an as of yet unannounced bonus game. The bonus game was selected based on votes submitted by owners of the previous two collections. Here's what lost and ended up in 2nd-5th.

2nd: Virtua Racing
3rd: OutRunners
4th: Gain Ground
5th: Wing War

I really hope it's not just Sonic 3 or some other Genesis game that has been released to death (Or maybe I should hope that it is, considering the region restrictions in place on the 3DS and the excellent possibility that it won't be leaving Japan, just like volume 1 never did).

And for the record, here's what hasn't appeared on the first two volumes, which will fill up the roster on this upcoming release.

-Afterburner II (Arcade)
-Gunstar Heroes
-Sonic the Hedgehog 2
-Streets of Rage 2
-Super Hang-On (Arcade)

Some of these and many of the selections for Volume 1 are actually on sale in the North American eShop for $3 a game, if it's of any interest to anyone.

Further reports indicate that it actually has 4 new titles, and that one of them is indeed Turbo Outrun.

Why couldn't the 3DS have been region free.

With all the Zelda stuff just talked about in the Direct, I was hoping I'd finally have the chance to get Four Swords Anniversary. This DSi freebie was reintroduced once on the eShop for the 3DS, but remains absent.

Missed out on it both times due to not owning the necessary hardware at the time. Not sure why it was a limited time deal in the first place, but I think it's time to open the gates again.

Seriously, what's the point of Super Mario Maker if they're not including online level sharing?

Yeah, it's baffling. If you can't upload levels (only share them locally / over streetpass) there's no way I'm buying it. What a huge missed opportunity for expanding the community.

Not to mention that this crippled version takes away an easy NX conversion.

The rumor mill had many people convinced that this Wii U release would be ported to the NX and appear early in the system's lifespan (Splatoon is another one continually mentioned). But now who would they sell it to on the NX?

Most of their potential audience likely doesn't own a Wii U, but for those non Wii U owning fans, an awful lot of them do own a 3DS and likely will be buying it there this Fall.

NX will have to wait for Super Mario Maker 2 now (Which better have slopes!).
