The 'haggling' aspect is overrated, but I'm actually really enjoying Rusty's Real Deal Baseball (the games are pretty much all set prices, and you have to haggle to get through the actual story). A pretty good amount of content per each minigame, considering they're all between $1.50-$2.00.

Anyone interested in Mario Golf: World Tour? Comes out in the US this week.

Golf games seem to work especially well on a handheld, and the Mario Golf titles have always been pretty decent.

Sub-1080p/60fps is not next-gen.

I'll probably end up getting it, but I miss the old RPG versions they had for the GBC and GBA (and that goes for Mario Tennis too).

It sort of drives me crazy how absolutely stupid Nintendo has gotten about some usability stuff. Controls for 2d platformers were solved on the Super Nintendo, and yet they've managed to screw that up since. B to jump and Y for attack is the only thing that makes sense- those two buttons are most frequently used and should be easily pressed at the same time. That's possible using B and Y. With A and B as the main buttons like, for example, in Kirby Triple Threat, that's far less comfortable. You would think that Nintendo, with their long history of games, would remember these sorts of things.

That's what has kept me away from the Virtual Console as well. Nintendo placed clarity above playability so the button lettering in GB/GBC/NES games matches the original instead of allowing the far superior Y & B layout instead for comfort.

Doesn't kill a good number of games, but many that depend on simultaenous manipulation of both A & B like the Super Mario platformers suffer greatly from this compromise so I'd stayed away out of principle.

If Sega ever releases something interesting like the Game Gear version of Ristar, I'll support the Game Gear section since it supports button remapping. Otherwise, I'm sticking with the 3D Classics lineup of remade classics.

Yeah, and even THAT was done right on the Super Nintendo. Super Mario All-stars had a selection for which method. I just don't get why they don't remember these things today.

Super Game Boy did such a thing as well. Matched up button lettering was the default, but could be switched to use Y & B in the options.

Nice to see button remapping be a standard feature on the Wii U's Virtual Console.

Yeah, I'm really happy with the customization options of the Wii U VC from what I've seen. Wish they would make that standard across the 3DS as well, but uh, I'm not holding my breath. Obvious, seemingly tiny UI oversights like that can really bug me for a single game, let alone an entire retro library.

Past the Pokemon X/Y... probably not until after E3, when we see new games announced and potentially a new hardware revision (low probability on that one, tho)

I did see a Mario and Luigi dream team bundle on Slick deals a couple days ago. I was looking for the game by itself, but this popped up- $169 with M&L:DT plus one free DS game. Might be worth a look.

personally, I'm content without an XL size screen this go 'round. I'm not a graphics devotee by any means, but the XL jaggies really suck.

I'm just the opposite - I AM a graphics devotee who had a regular 3DS, traded it for an XL, and glad I did. I don't really notice the jaggies on a handheld that much, and when I do they don't really bother me because I'm enjoying the larger screen.

To each his own, I guess. Good that there's two, well, *three* models to choose from. cool.gif

The graphics are definitely drastically worse with the XL screen, but for me personally it's worth it to be able to comfortably hold the thing for more than an hour. Still though, I wish I could sign on to both (even if one at a time) so that I could use the smaller one for stuff like StreetPass.

Yeah, I believe the reason for the jaggies is the game resolution is set for the original 3DS model's screen.

IIRC, the XL has the same resolution, just bigger pixels. So everything will look a little more "jaggie" on the XL. Not bad though, IMO.

Sega better bring these two eShop downloads to the West.

Otherwise, there's nothing slated for release on the entire 3DS that is of interest to me.

Haven't played it yet - been on my wish-list forever - but Link Between Worlds is supposed to be pretty sweet.

Link Between Worlds is very good, a great throwback to LttP both in art style and gameplay. It took me about 25 hours to complete including quite a few side quests, about average for a Zelda game.

Ocarina of Time is alright, it's better looking than the N64 version, but if you've played it before, there's nothing new of any real significance. It's still a great game, but the 3DS version isn't any better if you have the game on another platform.

I personally think Link Between Worlds is slightly overrated, but what exactly are we comparing to anyway? OoT is near perfect... but it's a 16 year old game that you've probably played already anyway. The DS games Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks are okay, but they have a weird control scheme and PH at least repeats a bunch (admittedly, finding new passages through as you get newer items). I never even got more than 20 minutes into Spirit Tracks.

Link Between Worlds is really the only real option.

I thought about getting Phantom but the control sceme threw me off. I never played Ocarina so ill consider that though im leaning towards Link to the Past as my first choice...

Funny you should mention that- I just started ST this weekend, never having played either of the DS Zeldas before. I'm not a fan of dragging the stylus to move, it's tedious at best and frustrating at worst. I'm hoping I'll get used to it, but so far it's made me very happy that LBW didn't continue using the DS' control scheme.

I am digging the soundtrack so far, tho.

I thought the DS Zeldas were interesting experiments but overall not really worth the departure from a more traditional control scheme (and Spirit Tracks, though better in a lot of ways gameplay-wise, bored me to tears). I'm also of the opinion that Ocarina is slightly overrated in general--it's slow to start, the first three dungeons are boring, and in general I find it to be a great translation of Zelda gameplay into 3D, but not quite as good as the best 2D Zeldas.

Meanwhile, other than getting a bit easy by the end and a "moving between worlds" animation sequence that's a little too long given how many times over the course of the game you'll see it, Link Between Worlds pretty much lived up to the hype for me.
