The arcade version of Thunder Blade has been announced as the next Sega 3D Classic release.

While not quite as awful in its Genesis form as Galaxy Force II was, similarly to Galaxy Force II, gamer's that just remember the rough 16 bit conversion are in for a treat with this one since it was excellent (Sega really should've based the Genesis game on the top down portions rather than attempting the 3D sprite scaling bits).

Hopefully Sega actually releases wave 2 of their 3D Classics series here. They've been nice games all around so far with this round and no bland Genesis ports like Altered Beast have cluttered it up. It has been 100% arcade focused so far (Both Fantasy Zone's, Afterburner II, Outrun, and now this) with hopefully more surprises to come like Turbo Outrun later this year.

But rumblings are that Sega won't bring this group West like they did the first wave of releases late last year.

The only thing is, the second stick looks to be near useless at that size and with that position.

The extra shoulder buttons don't look much more useful, as well.

Looks about the same setup as a Wii Classic Controller. I'd prefer the 2nd set of triggers below the 1st set like the Pro version has.

I sure as heck hope not. OutRun is one of my all-time favorite games. Been looking for a NA release date every week! I think the others weren't released in other parts until about a year after they came out in Japan, so I'm holding out hope.

Yeah, wave 1 only released here late last year. But a statement from M2, the emulation experts behind these releases, doesn't sound optimistic.

The only thing keeping this from being a complete pass for me is Xenoblade being exclusive to it, and even that isn't enough to get me to buy this upgrade.

That looks rather odd.

The NES GBA SP was better with the exterior styled to be reminiscent of the exterior of the NES and with the control surfaces styled like the controller.

Anyone seen any pictures of how this 3DS looks when opened up?

Smash Bros on 3DS came out last night / this morning. Tried a few games of it, and I'm clearly not nearly as good at it as I used to be on the Gamecube. The default button scheme is also terrible, in my opinion. Still, it's really fun. The only real problem I've seen is that even on the XL screen, it's a little hard to keep track of all that action on a small and pixelated screen.

Oh, and also, has anyone else's 3DS been running really slowly with the latest update whenever that was? Lately, I press the home button and sit and wait with a black screen for 20-30 seconds.

I'm debating picking up Smash 3DS--anyone else have some impressions? I don't have a ton of interest in portable Smash (which for me means basically 0% chance of multiplayer), but am caught up in the hype train for the Wii U version and am itching to play the next best thing. It does seem a little silly picking up the 3DS one when the Wii U version is just six weeks away.

I'd say you might as well just wait then. There's only so much single-player content before you'll eventually be bored of it anyway.

I appreciate the advice, but yeah, I totally caved the instant I passed a Best Buy on my way home from work yesterday. I remembered I had a $15 gift card so for $25 I couldn't pass it up, even as a six-month stopgap. (I may even trade the 3DS version in for credit toward the Wii U one, depending how I end up feeling about it).

Impressions so far: Wii Fit Trainer is hilarious and wrecks s*** UP.

I didn't realize this but apparently the new revision is using face tracking on the internal camera in order to tweak the 3D image and give it a wider viewing angle:

Quote:
Nintendo may have killed the 3D function for its budget 2DS, but on the New 3DS it’s better than ever. With the original 3DS and 3DS LL, you had to keep your eyes in a narrow sweet spot or things would get blurry fast. But the front-facing camera now tracks your face in tandem with an infrared sensor and adjusts the on-screen image accordingly, letting you see the 3.88-inch, 400 x 240-effective 3D screen from a much wider angle.
This works far better than I expected it to; it makes the 3D function effortless to use, rather than something that requires attention to maintain. It also means that games that use the gyroscope for motion control, like Star Fox 64 or The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, are actually playable in 3D now. The screens themselves aren’t noticeably better in quality — for Nintendo, high pixel density and vibrant color reproduction are just things that happened to other people — but this tweak makes the 3D display much more pleasant to look at in general. I’ve pretty much never turned the 3D slider down since I got the new 3DS, which is about as strong as an endorsement I can give.
