I bought the 21" Gateway FPD2185W a long while ago to play World of Warcraft on. It billed itself as being HD so I figured that might come in handy in the future.

When I got my Wii I figured it would be awesome on this thing. I bought the component cables and it looks... jagged. The pixels around Link in Twilight Princess are horribly jagged. Colors seem a little off to me as well. The pixelation is even noticable playing Super Mario World on the VC!

I don't know a lot about video, but I have tried adjusting everything I could find to smooth it out. Nothing helps, it looks better on my girlfriend's cheap Wal-mart Flat Screen CRT.

Help! Is there anything I can do or did I misunderstand what HD would mean?

Anything that isnt on your monitors native resolution is going to look. Well like crap. Nothing you can do about it. Turn the sharpness down on your monitor. It might help somewhat.

You are playing games designed for previous generation consoles...in Mario 64's case, 10 years ago.

Zelda TP is a direct port of a Gamecube game. The next generation Zelda on Wii will be optimized for the hardware and there should be far less "jaggies" on it.

Thanks, I have done several hours of research and understand what you are saying, Korn.

Did you ever change the video setting in the Wii menus?

Yes, I changed the dispaly settings on my Wii. The issue just seems to be the fixed resolution of my monitor. It is upscaling the image and resulting in jagged edges and pixelation in VC games.

It is worse in Zelda: TP than Red Steel, I've realized. So hopefully all the games not designed for the Gamecube will perform better than Zelda has on my screen.

No, what you're experience is just the super crappy upscaling chip in the Gateway. Believe me, even 480i PS2 games look gorgeous on this display using an external Component -> VGA transcoder, smooth and clean, while the internal one looks terrible. Not too bad w/ 480P, but still overall quite worse than even the HD Box Pro I would imagine (I'm using a cheaper than HD Box Pro and it looks damn good for being 480i to VGA!)
