I don't know if it is a popular choice, but I rather prefer plasma to LCD. LCD still has too many issues for me, from ghosting to viewing angle - even with the latest technologies. Take a look at Panasonic's G12 series, the G10 or the V10. I own the G10 and I'm very satisfied using it as a monitor. The dreaded Image Retention and Burn In issues are virtually non-existent these days. Just check out the latest articles from HDGuru.com for more info.
yea, I'd go plasma over LCD for the motion resolution, too.
I use my Sony SXRD for gaming sometimes, and that handles the motion very well. Too bad they stopped making them...great contrast, great motion, good color, and LOW power consumption (my 50" is 120W at the wall!).
I've been using a last generation Panasonic plasma for PC gaming at 1920x1080 via HDMI. I use a smaller LCD for web browsing and music display, but haven't had any problems with the plasma after long gaming sessions. The image quality continues to impress me.
