Current System (Alienware M17 Laptop):

Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q9100 (2.26 GHz w/ 12 MB Cache)
2 x 2 GB DDR3 1067 MHz RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon 512 MB HD3870 X2
320 GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive (16 MB Cache)
Internal High-Definition Sound Card

Two Questions:

1) How will this system fare in handling Crysis Warhead? I am assuming it should be fine, but just a little curious.

2) What component(s) could use an upgrade "next"? It may not be soon but what are the "weak" parts of my system, if any?

the game should perform fine. You probalby won't be able to use AA, though.

The 3870 X2 is probably on the level of a GTS250 or maybe 4850. That's enough for Warhead, but you may not be able to use anti-aliasing at really high resolutions.

I'd say the weakest link is the graphics card. It's not really weak, but the new ATI cards are leagues above it (they really improved with the 4xxx series).

The CPU is fine. Clock speed is a little low; I bet you could just clock it up a little for free, though. I don't think it's going to stand in the way of much of anything as is, though.

Blah. I can't even really run the Steam version on Win7. I bought the whole suite on sale for $13 a few months back and when I try to customize my config in the game it crashes to the desktop and doesn't save the settings.

I read this is a common bug and EA has done absolutely nothing to fix it.

BFBC2: Wagman
Steam: Wag

EA not fixing issues that affect their games? Nah, never heard of it.

Anyway I'd also say that you probably want to go with one of the newer 5xxx series cards. I upgraded from a 4670 to a 5770 (bought the 4670 thinking it was enough and decided to splurge on the 5770 when I took it back) and the differences were night and day. I'm transitioning from console gaming to pc gaming and I am whole heartedly of the opinion that you spend to get better performance. I used to see a 150 video card as expensive and overpriced but that's when I was a pure console owner. Now that I see what a somewhat good system can do and see what others do with the higher-en 5850 and 5970 (my experience is in ATI, choose the equivalent NVidia card if you want to) I am converted. I plan on building a new gaming pc this fall and will definitely buy the best graphics card I can afford (that also makes sense).

solution: make sure your antivirus ignores the Crysis folder in your documents folder. In AVG it is an "exemption" or something like that.

You mean under Advanced settings/Resident Shield- "Directory Excludes"? Because I don't really see what else you could mean.

Ah- yes, I see, thanks! I did multiple google searches and I couldn't find that info anywhere. It works fine now.

awesome! glad to help.

I was using AVG before, but now use MS-SE (this issue with AVG was one of many that made me uninstall it). I had forgotten all of the AVG settings. Glad it's working for you now!

silly you, blaming EA for all of the problems

1) Have you played Warhead? Crysis is one of my top 3 games of all time, but Warhead was a frigging joke. Ok, it wasn't terrible, but certainly was a let down coming off of Crysis. Sequels are "supposed" to be better, not worse. I was highly disappointed.

I blame them for not knowing or at least trying to fix a problem. They should have. But par for the course I guess.

Have you run Crysis on your computer? Warhead has the same requirements.

Gonna echo the other posters and say that if you want to upgrade your computer a new video card is the first thing to get.

And I thought Warhead was great, maybe even better, from a purely action standpoint, than Crysis.
