Mine should be Infrasonic07, afaik.

Played the first few missions but quit so I can download some more games.

So far, so good irt Shift 2. Runs well on my laptop (i7+5870m) with everything maxed save for AA and vsync. I'll have to give the MP a try tomorrow.

I stumbled upon my very first Steam account tonight by accident. I had forgotten all about it. So what did I do? I went and bought the Valve pack for it. Ugh. Figured I could run my own dedicated server with the profile and another i7 computer I have that isn't being used for anything. Could run an official AVS server for Source based games. Would prolly get Killing Floor for it too...

I'm pretty sure you can run servers for free off of any Steam account, even if it has never purchased anything.

I'll try to add you to Shift 2.

Oh sweet Baby Jesus, I'm up to 135 games now...

I'll let you know when I get it up and running (as soon as my MOBO comes back from RMA hopefully).

As to your previous post, yes, Hot Pursuit is much more of an arcade racer while Shift 2 borders on a sim. I never played the 1st one with a wheel, but I have the same wheel as you and may give it a shot if it plays well with it as you say (few games seem to use wheels real well IMO).

That eyefinity set-up looks sweet by the way, I like to game on my TV though so the setup is unrealistic for me to do (for the most part).

Sup fellas -

I'm new to PC gaming, but in this past month I somehow went from having 0 games to probably 20+ now. Damn sales eating away at my wallet.

So, I'm hoping to find out how to:

Get speeds like this.

I think the best speed I've had downloading is 1.5 Mbps. I have a 20/5 connection and live just south of Boston - so I'm assuming I should be able to get better than 1.5 Mbps if you're gettting 5 Mbps.

The only game I've really played online so far is BC2, and I just joined a random server to play. Like to get into a group. I need to figure out how chat works - I've paired a bluetooth headset, but it seems a lot of people use different software outside of Steam for chat (Mumble and Vent?).

Thanks

darklordjames you have the exact same wheel as me. If you do pickup TDU2 in possible second chance sale, you will have to let me know if they fixed the wheel issues. I refuse to reinstall the game till that is fixed.

What's your Steam ID? I'll be able to invite you to the group once we're Steam friends.

Also, I usually use Ventrilo when playing online with "real life" friends. Maybe someone hears runs a Vent server that the group could use. I'd volunteer the one I go to, but I don't even know the owner.

Oh, and you're not gonna get your max speeds during the Steam sale due to the high volume of server traffic. So keep that in mind if you're concerned.

EDIT: I think I may have found you on Steam. Are you Harpua77 on Steam, too?

EDIT 2: 1000th post!

I believe that Harpua77 is my display name on Steam, but my login is Harpua_77. Not sure how you have to find people - if it's display or login ID. Don't ask me how there is another Harpua77 out there.

Is Steam chat terrible? I have a friend that uses mumble, but I never really asked why he doesn't just use Steam for chat.

I've noticed the 1.5 Mbps during a non-sale, and I've seen some posts referencing certain servers/locations that they are connecting to, so I was curious if I may be connecting to a slow server.

I'll lookout for an invite when I get home. Thanks!

I've tried several different servers and 1.5 is the highest I've ever gotten. I think it's just the limit they place on it.

It will be your name with the underscore as that is your actual login. Steam lets you change your display name though which is nice. Wish... XBL did that.

Thanks guys. I just found it odd that Dave could get 5 Mbps at about the same distance from Boston as I am. I'll have to check out where I'm connecting to when I get home.

Either way, thanks for helping a noob.

Some really good deals today. Batman is worth the $7.50. And so is Left 4 Dead 2 and Killing Floor, in my opinion. King's Bounty is supposedly good, too. I'm not sure about Far Cry 2. Also, Jamestown is supposed to be a very good arcade shooter.

This is one of the best days, yet. In my opinion, of course.

FarCry 2 on 360 was awesome. Totally worth $5.

Also, Sims 3 is finally less than $15! There's my purchase for the day.

"Get speeds like this."

In Settings you have a Downloads+Cloud option. Make sure that the server selection makes sense.

Also, if I connect to my Seattle (Comcast) mirror I get capped at what looks like 1.5MBps, but am taking the load off of Valve's heavily used servers during these sales. If I connect to my just Seattle server, the download is uncapped and will saturate my connection on a good day, or only get 350KBps on a bad day.

Bought Sims 3, went to go look at houses for 45 minutes, and now it's done downloading. I love living in a tech center. Too bad I don't get to play it now as I've got to go spend some time at work.

Related to looking at houses: I think my next upgrade in my new office will be to add a 1080p projector and a racing seat to the mix. Anyone know if DVI pass-through is a common feature on projectors now? I don't want to break my Eyefinity setup just to add a projector for those games that don't support triple monitor properly. Also, has anyone experimented with forcing super-wide aspect ratios on to 16:9 displays? I'm think along the lines of rendering at 1920x540 to get a 32:9 aspect on a projector. With lots of AA/AF the resolution loss shouldn't be too noticeable, but it will get me 2/3 the way to 3x Eyefinity super-wide at a larger screen size.

Thanks DLJ. It looks like I was initially connected to NY. I'll keep an eye on it when the sales are over to see if I see any improvement using the Boston server.

Well, I ended up gifting Batman to my brothers. Also bought Jamestown to play co-op with them.

I also highly recommend Killing Floor. It's different (and better IMO) than Left 4 Dead. The game is 6 player co-op with dedicated servers. You survive waves of zombies/mutants. There are classes that you play and can upgrade by continually playing them and fulfilling their role. It's just a lot of fun, and I think it'd be perfect for our Steam group to team up and play.

Of the deals today, I'm interested in getting a Command & Conquer game. I haven't played the series since Generals. For anyone that's played them, between C&C 3 and Red Alert 3 which is the better one?

So far this sale hasn't done anything for me. Mostly though, it's just because I bought a bunch of games before the sale started. I got Far Cry 2 before this sale started, Just Cause 2, Darksiders and Batman Arkham Asylum. Actually I got Batman the other day from GamersGate for like 7 bucks.

I was tempted on a few of the games. COD4 for $9.99 was kinda tempting. I should have bought Half-Life 2 for $2.50. That was just pure laziness on my part. A couple other games were kinda tempting. I really want Fallout 3, Mirror's Edge, DiRT 2, Bulletstorm, Crysis 2, GTA IV, RE5, Dead Rising 2, The Witcher 2, Modern Warfares and Call of Duties...

Some of those games might have been on sale, but the price wasn't low enough for me to jump on it. I'd have gotten Fallout 3 from Direct2Drive for $10, but that version doesn't work with mods for some reason, which means no go for that one..

You'll undoubtedly find a good number of those games for ultra cheap on random Steam deals while you play through your backlog.

I don't think there's anything else on Steam that would interest me in buying at this point. You eventually hoard enough and have very little to pique your interest. That means it is time to load up on more GOG games. They recently acquired SWAT 3; developers don't make tactical shooters like that anymore.

Unless you like shooting bugs, I'd avoid Red Faction Armageddon. I played about 3 hours of it on ps3 and couldn't stand it anymore. There's only so many dark corridors I can traverse and glowing bug filled puss sacks I can't shoot before I get really bored.

Red Faction Guerrilla was fantastic, and I'm glad I spent my $30 on it on 360, plus the $20 for all the DLC. Armageddon left me with the "$20 impression" though. Great improvement on the mechanics, but bad choice in moving to a more linear path. Wait until it's dirt cheap.

Fallout 3 with all the DLC for $10 today! Woot! I've got it all on 360, but have wanted to pick it up cheap on PC to play on my Eyefinity setup, and to see what the mod community has been up to.
