Does anyone have an Extra Northpole 11 card? I traded mine by mistake when it should have been 10. I am locked from trading since I canceled two trades since I accepted one I needed. I can gift a 10 I believe.

Valve has finally addressed the Christmas leak: http://kotaku.com/valve-says-steams-...out-1750324479

Hopefully no one here has to get one of those emails...

I have one called 'Mystery Card 11' with "Northpole Noir" listed on it.

Is that the one you need? I don't use these things at all.

Ok, this steam sale is getting to me. Now that my son has his own PC I am buying games in two! Picked up Depth for both of us and Castleminer Z. I did buy him the Valve Complete plac. Every kids should have to play through Half life 1 &2 on PC. Plus he likes CS: Go

Aw man...he might hate you after that.

I know I'm in the minority in that I don't have that nostalgic bone in my body, but I tried playing HL1 not too long ago and I had to give up. The controls are an absolute mess. You slide around like you're on ice. Trying to ascend and descend ladders are lessons in frustration. Because the controls are so awful the platforming sections are infuriating. The game looks and sounds terrible. There are inconsistencies with the UI (like with doors). No ADS. The list goes on and on. Some games can withstand the test of time but that's not one of them. HL2 fared better than HL1 but that game has other issues, like with pacing and awful AI (both enemy and friendly). You still feel like you're sliding around but it isn't nearly as bad as HL1. I played through until Episode 2 and truthfully that was the only HL game I really enjoyed.

I can recognize the innovation of both HL1 and HL2 and give them their place in history, but I've come to expect a lot more from videogames. It's hard going back.

Final Fantasy IX is getting a PC release!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oDeSJI0qJc

That leaves very few of the mainline games left to go.

Seems to be a lot more than just the standard HD port too, those cutscenes in the announcement trailer look WAY better than the PS1 original ever did, even with emulators, add in the proper widescreen for the gameplay, and this is just too good to be true.

depending on the price of it, maybe I will take the plunge.

I just bought Homeworld remastered and that game I believe is the missing Space RTS I have been looking for. Mostly I was looking for one that focused more on combat and little on resource and politic management.

Well you were there from the start it seems, so you got to see all generations of games. Any particular one that stands out in your experience of really what moved things along?

Well...since I'll be within spitting distance of 70 in 2016, I'll give you my take on this. After grad school (1972) I became a real road warrior business blazer in the 70's & 80's. Stayed in a ton of Holiday Inns with poolside arcades. And that was what got me going on video gaming. Can you believe that!...Arcade gaming was actually my genesis. And Space Invaders was my Coke! I swiftly moved to a KayPro 10 PC...& pong...Radio Shack PC for King's Quest, LOL. And after marveling that I couldn't imagine graphics getting any better...I leaped to Atari, Coleco, NINTENDO and more powerful MSDOS PCs. Where after Legend of Zelda, Cybermage, SpaceQuest, Kings Quest, Clouds/World of Xeen I was hopelessly addicted. But the hobby has been an epic good ride for me. And I am still awaiting what I predicted will be a catalyst in gaming like the arcades. I'm referring to VR. Which should just about transition me out into that big Virtual World beyond.

And yes, I am still waiting for my freebie Freebie devkit 2 from you know who. They ran completely out of them. So who knows. I may just get an early launch model instead in 2016 if I'm Lucky.

Bringing back memories... For me the (x)quest series were my favorites I played on my 6 MHz XT-286 with an EGA(256 k of extra memory) display. No way it could get better than that! Sierra Online just kept putting out hit after hit. Fast forward to anew concept at the time called Steam. WTF is with that name... I had played Doom and that was tremendous. Wow what a shooter! Decided I would try something called HalfLife.. Valve??? Must be associated with plumbing supplies. I was hooked and the concept of Steam seemed like it would work. I don't buy many games a year. Tomb Raider introduced me to the need to have a 3D card. I tend to buy big hit games but when the seasonal sales come around I peruse but unless it's something I have to have I pass. Just finished Witcher 3. Almost done with AC Syndicate. Done that series as well as the Fallout series. Fallout 4 is next. Then Mass Effect's new offering in 2016. Played all those too. Then... Who knows

Glad to see FFIX coming to Steam finally. That one was always my fave on PS1. Now we need 1, 2, 10, 10-2, and 12 on Steam and we'll have them all!

Homeworld's great. Remastered... is good.

Check out Sins of a Solar Empire. Prettymuch THE best space rts out there...

Holding the fort on old games that play the same as the new ones, minus the $400 price tag.

How much politics and resource gathering is there? I'm after space rts game so I don't have to manage the resources and just take the fleet and go to battle.

You do have to gather some resources, but it's fairly unobtrusive in the grand scheme of things imo. You build the "mining" things on asteroids/planets and just let the resources flow to you while you work on building and upgrading your fleet/defending. Sins really is a fantastic space RTS, what I missed from Homeworld was the fully 3D battles. Sins still maps on a 2D plane although the ships move in 3D.

So will the new ff7 just be a high res version of the original, or will the in game visuals differ drastically from the amazing cut scenes? I quit playing jrpgs after ff8, the style of cutesy characters just doesn't float with me anymore. Unless it's the style throughout. When you have realistic mixed with whatever you call the in-game characters, it doesn't mesh.

Both are so cheap right now pick up both and play a little of each and then decide which one to play through first. I started Homeworld 2 (Sorry @Lord_Zath I figured that was going to have better graphics and story line than the first one). already, but I am thinking I'll pick up Sins since it has been on my wishlist for a while and it has a good sale price going on. I'll just get the main game now and the DLC later.

Sorry for the late reply.

Homeworld is more beautiful than sins. Sins has more epic battles and a larger scale.

Hw has a great single player campaign. Sins is mp skirmish only (ai and or human friends). Hw multiplayer sucks right now.

Resource gathering is important to both. Hw has a more basic tech tree.

Get hw for a great sorry. Get sins for great depth of gameplay. Get sins rebellion, do not go cheap and get the base game. Rebellion is a stand alone expansion, so it has all the content of sins plus the micro expansions they released.

Ok, purchased Sins of the Rebellion and Soundtrack bundle for 11.24 and then the two DLC packs for $2.49. Doing it this way was $16.22 and cheaper than the Ultimate Edition for $19.99 which I think has the same 4 items.

Sins seems to work fine. Bugged out once but went to run it again and seemed like it didn't finish installing all the little extras properly (Vc redist, etc). Seems to work fine now. I didn't put a ton of time into it but it should be ok...

So DON'T bother with the Ultimate but instead do it how?

@totalownership . If you look at the Ultimate bundle it is basically the Soundtrack, the two DLC packs and the game for $19.99. The Sins:Rebellion and Soundtrack is $11.24 add that to your cart. Then click on each DLC (Stellar Phenomenon, and Forbidden Worlds $2.49 each) and add to cart. You get all 4 for $16.22 this way. Take that $3 and buy something else

When you have realistic mixed with whatever you call the in-game characters, it doesn't mesh.
The upcoming FF7 remake is following the base story of the original, but with completely different gameplay. Fully real time now, and will be episodic. The amount of pre rendered cutscenes has drastically gone down since the PS2 era, and is more or less gone now.

Even FF8 kept the same general style from gameplay to cutscene, it was just a massive quality gap between them. FF7 was the last Final Fantasy that had drastically different styles from exploration, to battle, to cutscenes.
