Full stereoscopic 3D, support for Core i7's Hyperthreading, a plethora of different anti-aliasing methods, 64 player multiplayer compared to console's 24 and larger maps is even more evidence of PC gamers not getting the shaft.

I recently found the tech presentation that I was referring to. You can view it here under the heading "DirectX 11 Rendering in Battlefield 3."

Below it is a presentation on adapting the established technology primarily made for the PC to the PS3's architecture.

Everything indicates that this is the real deal for high-end PC gaming. Even the slide mentions its drive for newer hardware and OS adoption.

Good.

As long as this isn't a long showy list of 'wut we want in our game' and is actually IN the game... sweet.

The former scenario definitely crossed my mind as well, but developer presentations that show off their new engine's capabilities usually do not focus so much on one real game. This particular presentation was so explicit that you can tell DICE is riding on Battlefield 3 being the perfect showcase for the new engine.

Personally, I hope the Frostbite 2 engine garners a lot of attention. I like Unreal Engine 3, but seeing other developers embrace Frostbite 2 for some of their popular open-world titles would likely be a good thing for PC gamers. I am definitely excited for DICE's own Mirror's Edge 2.

The last I remember I had over 600 hours in BF2. I had almost 1500 in Joint ops as we could make our own badass maps!! That map maker made that game live for years. also 150 people online at once was kinda cool too

You will have to let us know what the server name is so we can all join.

Have you seen the new multiplayer trailer? Ignoring the annoying, overdriven music used for the trailer, this game looks incredible.

Watched this a little earlier today. G-damnit! I've been consistently hating the downhill progress this game has been having for a month or two now. Now I've got to like it again. Argh!

Ah. I'm sure there will be some other 'news' or some video in the nest week that makes it look like crap so I can go back to hating this again.

Cool vid!

Yeah.

That would probably be the, 'make it or break it' deal for me. Eh, I've got Deus Ex 3 coming out soon and Dead Island to keep me busy.

Ya it SUCKS that it's not coming on steam. But what can ya do. I've never used D2D, does it have a client like steam? of is it just a digital dl service that emails you your passcodes or something? I've never had the need to ever use them but i may now. Or I could just keep my pre-order from Gamestop.

It is important to note that no matter how you buy it, it looks like Battlefield 3 will require EA's own Origin client.

It is because of this that Steam will not get the game, as Steam couples games to its own client with not much leeway for other clients to get directly involved.

Commo-Rose also CONFIRMED on Twitter. Its official, this game can now be said in the same breath as Battlefield 2.

In terms of LFE, size does matter!

I hope it doesn't have the same amount of destruction as Bad Company 2, which leaves little cover near flags. Combine that with sniping, which was made far too easy IMO, and its just too hard to take flags without a tank or a squad. Snipers just watch your jeep coming from a 1/4 mile away, wait for you to get out to your safest position and click the mouse button. Or worse, you sneak/fight all that way, which can take 10 or 20+ minutes....

I just hope they make a crazy immersive and in-depth 2142 sequel.
