I have a Radeon 6950 sound card and use the HDMI out to my receiver. In windows I configured my sound output to be 7.1 and all the speakers sound and are in the correct position in the setup menu. When I play any game even those that have a 7.1 option I don't get sound from my side speakers, the sounds are coming from my rear speakers.

Any ideas as to why this would happen. My PS3 works fine in 7.1 but for some reason my PC isn't.

Does the card support multichannel PCM over HDMI, is it DD Live or DTS Interactive encoding? Windows doesn't even have the option for me to set my speaker configuration when I use the Digital Output.

This is what is on the specs of the card.

Integrated HD audio controller

Output protected high bit rate 7.1 channel surround sound over HDMI with no additional cables required
Supports AC-3, AAC, Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio formats

The strange thing is that last night I was playing Dead Island and I had sound coming out all of my speakers but it was late and I couldn't test and see if the sound was different between the rear and side or if it was just repeating the same sounds out of both.
