Namco Bandai might bring Dark Souls on the PC if there is demand

That's according to Namco Bandai's Administrator, Shoupinou, who revealed at the official forums that Dark Souls might come to the PC. Exciting news, right?

As Shoupinou wrote:

There is always possibilities to have games adapted on PC and the good news is that Dark Souls is not a 100% typical Console game so the adaptation is possible.

Now to make things happen, let's say the demand has to be properly done. someone to make a successful petition?

There is currently a petition going on, so go ahead and sign it. And who knows, maybe From Software and Namco will decide to port it. Those interested can also post a message to Namco Bandai's FB page, twitter or forum. Spread the word guys and show them that you want this game on the PC!

I never played it, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that this game would generate plenty of demand from PC gamers. Just port it over with Steamworks and enjoy a tidy profit.

I coincidentally just ran into this page the other day thinking what a shame it wasn't being released on PC. Looks amazing, graphically at least.

It would be interesting to see this game on the PC......and trainers could help make it a more 'enjoyable' experience for less hard-core gamers. Problem is these Japanese-sourced games usually do not sell well in the States, your Final Fantasies notwithstanding...

Played the game on PS3 already. Hope the game comes to PC so more people can enjoy it

I know that some easy way mods would ruin the game tho...

This is not the kind of traditional RPG experience PC gamers are used to. I tried to enjoy the pre-cursor to this game, Demons Souls, kept felt like I was banging my head against a wall and eventually gave up. Don't know if Dark Souls is any different, but Demons Souls was essentially a grind-fest.

I know people loved it, but the fact each level was exactly the same every time you played really soured me on it very quickly.

I'm pretty stoked about this. The --Souls series seems pretty awesome all around, like a brutal version of Diablo or Legend of Zelda. I hope Namco comes through on this one.

These games are ridiculously hard, but that is part of the allure. PC Gamers aren't used to this, but neither is anyone else. These games have enough reputation by now that I think people know what is in store for them. I'd buy it.

You can grind, it's completely unneccessary though. There are many people (crazy i admit) that have beaten the game with a Soul Level 1.

It's more about skill and resources than grinding up levels. There's actually a couple parts where leveling up is so easy it feels like cheating.

I never beat Demon Souls, but from what I did play, Dark Souls is a much more forgiveable, while rewarding game, and overall better experience. The little things they changed like refillable Estus Flasks instead of using those mosses to heal you, make a huge difference.

Sadly no, I took a look at Demon Souls back when it was released and making noise for being the most difficult game ever, and it looked sort of like an Asian-influenced D&D type game, like a 3rd person DIABLO only instead of swarms of baddies when it got to combat it was something like...well I don't know,a JRPG (where each slash was like a dice roll)...or so I thought.

Obviously, I know not

Great news for pc gamers, which I am one of. Would love to see this in full glory with high rezz textures, and smooth framerates, especially in Blighttown!!! However, I'm pretty far into this on my ps3, and can't stomach the idea of starting over, and the merciless grind back up the level scale. Gonna pass.

Trainer. Not unlimited everything, just enough to get you where you needed to be. I have the first game for PS3, I never played it...bought it used for cheap a few months ago..is it even worth starting at this point?? Do I even dare start to slog through it or should I wait for this later PC release of the newer game....

I'm looking forward to Dark Souls on PC...we are in for a treat (as long as they don't screw up the port). Demon's Souls was great, just super gloomy.

Played both a few times over and yes they are hard, but they are fair for the most part. Almost every time I died (very, very often) it was because I did something wrong or my character wasn't prepared gear-wise (again, my fault). You can get to a part where yes, you do a bit of grinding for souls and the game then becomes way easier. Overall they are my two favourite games on the PS3. Bring your happy pills, though, the environment in these games is bleak and oppressive. I love it!

For those of you who have the game but haven't completed it...grow a pair and finish it. You will be glad you did.

Magician is the easy mode for Demon's Souls, whereas I found a warrior-like tank with gobs of armor was the easiest for Dark Souls. YMMV.

I was excited until it was released that it will be intertwined with GFWL. Amazing how out of touch developers can be. "Every gamer on the planet hates GFWL? Good, we'll be sure to include that then". WTF ?

Too bad, as Blightown was hard enough despite the choppy frame rate. I have the PS3 copy and it is one of my favourite games. It can be punishing but it is for the most part fair. You usually die because you either weren't skilled enough or didn't bring the right weapon/spell, etc. It's this that causes me to keep trying to kill a certain boss after dying a handful of times...or more.

There's basically no music in the game, but the very bleak, dark feel to it makes you feel like you are truly alone. I absolutely love the fighting mechanics. Anyway, if you haven't tried it, you should. It's totally different from other rpgs I've played. I would get it on PC save for the fact that they're not planning on optimizing it. the 1080p vs 720p on the PS3 would be a really nice upgrade on my projector setup, though.

While this game isn't going to be well optimized (at launch at least), it doesn't mean it isn't going to be the best version. Current gaming hardware should detriment the optimization problems as well as a potential modding community that can fix such optimization issues, and patches. Although if it's going to have issues running on cards like the GTX 670, we do have a problem. I'd say wait until launch to see how big of a problem it is, especially if you waited long enough. As long as they aren't going to do something stupid like a framerate cap,or even capping GPU usage (L.A. Noire; a good example on how to screw up a port), it should be at least better version than on consoles (Dark Souls was never that well optimized game to begin with, even the Eurogamer article it sourced that you posted acknowledges this).

Eurogamer article

Quote:
Uchiyama went on to confirm that it hasn't fixed the frame rate problems that had hobbled certain parts of the game on consoles.

"In terms of the frame rate for say, Blighttown, From Software sincerely apologises for that happening [in the console version]," he said.

With all of the bad info about a bad port for PC...I'm completely satisfied. Looks good, very smooth and I'm running it on a laptop connected to a monitor. And, I've not even investigated into the breaking news of the res fix on neogaf.

Not saying the res fix is bad, just saying the Prepare To Die version is as good as the PS3 version or slightly better...no frame drops so far.

So, I bought the first game for the PS3 because it was used.....and like 9 bucks and I said to myself "Self, you could use another reason to hate life, why not try playing this game?". I admit it started out fun, but it soon became pretty tedious running around to find bad guys only to get hit by offscreen characters or time a button press wrong and have to start all the way over again. Do that 5, 10 times....20 times....ok I can see where this is for....i don't even want to say Die Hard gamers, more like Obsessive/Compulsive people who are compelled to finish something, the harder and more infuriating the better smile.gif

Is the second game "better"....it looks like more of the same but it does look fun.....can someone save me some bytes pinging google about the "Resolution Issue"...what is it, the game only runs at 640x480 or something? smile.gif

I get better life out of "long games" on the PC, where I spend more time.....the console and I have grown distant over the years.....I don't play a ton of long-duration games on the consoles anymore. Borderlands, GTA, games that take awhile to finish...PC.
