That is the question. I am looking at a Sharp LC40D68UT but it seems to not have dot by dot. It does have "Vyper Drive" which turns off all the image processing things as far as I know.

I will be using a HDMI cable to connect to the tv.

Here are the specs: Video
Technology TFT active matrix
LCD backlight technology Wide Color Gamut-CCFL
Resolution 1920 x 1080
Display format 1080p
Refresh rate 120Hz
Image aspect ratio 16:9
Pixel response time 6.0 ms
Widescreen Widescreen
HDCP compatible Yes
TV Tuner
TV tuner presence Yes
Digital TV tuner ATSC,
QAM
Analog TV tuner NTSC
TV tuner reception system QAM,
ATSC,
NTSC
Audio
Speaker(s) 2.0 x Right/left channel speaker - 8.0 Watt
Total output power 16.0 Watt
Audio controls Bass,
Balance,
Treble
Convenience Features
Additional features Optical Picture Control (OPC),
On-screen menu,
Vyper Drive
Connectivity
Video interface Component,
Composite,
HDMI
HDMI ports qty 3.0
PC interface VGA (HD-15)]

Since it doesn't have dot by dot, should I just move on from that tv and keep looking?

If it's a Sharp it should have Dot-by-dot mode (mine does). Post in the LCD HDTV forum (there should be a topic for your model, there is for virtually every other one) and I'm sure someone will be able to answer your question.

What will you be using your TV for mainly?

XBOX Live: Wagmman
PSN: Wagg
BFBC2: Wagman
Steam: Wag

My Second Life character looks and acts exactly like me except he can fly.

Ok thanks I will. I will mainly be using it for gaming and watching movies, some 3d modeling and some text editing.
