Didn't want to hijack another members thread so I'm starting a separate one. I just bought a new soundbar the ysp 2200 and have it connected via hdmi from my Gtx 570 to soundbar. However Gtx doesn't have as many formats as I'd like. I'm looking into getting a dedicated sound card just haven't decided yet and need to save. For the time being tho how can I get the mobo's audio to my Gtx then out to my soundbar? Is it as easy as hdmi from mobo > Gtx 570 "hdmi in" > "hdmi out" > soundbar ?

Love sports, movies, and games. Slowly some day I'll add a projector and screen. Until then, I'll build up my library.

i'm start with smaller simpler steps as my first post wordage was long and lost

i have hdmi from graphic card (gtx 570) to soundbar, for video
i have optical cable from mobo to soundbar optical for audio (mobo has formats i want)

problem is i want to only have one cable running to bar.

i'm wondering what my options are to get audio from mobo and video from graphics card with one cable running from htpc to soundbar?

can i plug an hdmi cable from mobo to graphic card, to get the supported audio i want, then run hdmi cable from the graphic card to soundbar, getting both video and audio?

Love sports, movies, and games. Slowly some day I'll add a projector and screen. Until then, I'll build up my library.

The audio from your mobo is digitally routed to the card and put out through the HDMI if you have it set up properly. A sound card is of no use to you and would not give you anything you don't already have.

The GTX 570 spits out 8 channel PCM. The YSP-2200 accepts 8 channel PCM. You do not need a sound card, and you do not need other formats. If the concern is decoding Dolby/dts HD, the you just need to set your player to decode that in software for 8 channel PCM output.

Adding a sound are would be moving backward, and is a poor idea.

Thanks dark. I'm more clueless then I thought. Which software do I use to change the setting. Just under control panel then configure hdmi to 7.1 or is there something more specific?

That should be all you need to do to get games and multichannel audio sources to spit out 7.1 PCM over HDMI. If you want to play Dolby HD Bluray, then you'll need to change settings in your player software, though I don't know what.
