Quick question: two 2GB cards in SLI still equals 2GB, right?

What happens if you have a 4g card and 2g card, or is that not compatible. I was looking at cards trying to decide if I want a 670, 680 or 780. There are quite a few options.

I haven't done SLI since 3dfx days.

I would think it would be limited by the lowest card.

I'm waiting to see if the new consoles actually make a significant improvement in visuals and game controls. Hopefully Sony has focused on games and not the " media nexus approach" of Microsoft.

Funny lol. Although none of this bothers me at all. Used to it on the PC side of things anyway, and with how few games I'll end up buying on the Xbox, cost won't really matter.

If I drop $500-$600 on anything this year it will be this:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-3132_7-57588741-98/amd-unveils-first-eight-core-5ghz-processor/?part=rss&subj=news&tag=title

It will marry up nicely with my current PC build. And be ready for anything the future (next 6 months) biggrin.gif throws at it. Funny how people bitch & whine about new console prices. But won't think twice about dropping big money for new gaming CPUs...GPUs...and APUs.

So $399 for the PS4 and $499 for the Xbox 1 (comes with kinect 2).... Now that all the specs are completely revealed, looks like the ps3 is the clear winner. 33% better GPU performance. MS if banking on it's cloud computing garbage to make up the slack lol, thats going to be a epic fail. PS# removable and replaceable HD, can run not hooked to the net and doesn't need to check in every 24 hours...

I kinda feel bad for MS being a victim of an Internet dogpile. But then I wonder if they are in a bubble and blissfully unaware of how bad they are coming across? They definitely need help with how they present their message.

Anyway, I've pre-ordered both Xbox One and the PS4, but if I had to pick one, I'd go with the concensus and say Sony's PS4 looks like the machine for me - it's still a familiar game machine, just with improved specs. That's all I want - no Kinect, no TV pass-through, just horsepower, a nice library of software, and a good controller.

If the launch games are cool, I might hang up the PC for a while.

N8 thinks GPU performance in a console is exclusively the realm of shader count. What was the term? Ah, right, "epic fail".

The chunk of cache in the XBO makes up largely for the DDR3 to GDDR5 variance. Microsoft's long history of much more elegant SDKs will take care of a lot of the GPU hardware deficiency. Yes, three to five years down the road games by talented developers made specifically for the PS4 will look better than XBO exclusive games. For the most part though, the majority of games will be a whole lot closer between the two versions than people are currently expecting.

Supporting your devs with quality SDKs and running a light console OS go a long way in helping your devs extract performance from the hardware. One of these vendors has proven to be really quite good on that end, and one of them has proven to kind of crap at it. I'll let you go ahead and guess which one is which.

33% better GPU performance is 33% better GPU performance. We don't know how everything is being implemented yet on either machine, so you "opinion" is nothing more that your typical blathering. Like I've always said, I'm buying both machines and I don't really care which one ends up being better. I just pre-ordered my PS4 today from bestbuy and pre-ordered the xbox one yesterday.

The PS4 has the chance to be the king of the 2 this time. Competition is good for everyone.

I pre-ordered a PS4 from Amazon. I have little interest in the Google TV/IR Blaster type functionality of the XBOne. Plus the Kinect seems too invasive for me.

XBOX Live: Wagmman
PSN: Wagg
BFBC2: Wagman
Steam: Wag

My Second Life character looks and acts exactly like me except he can fly.

Which they've already said can be turned off. The kinect just has to be plugged in physically, doesn't have to be on though. I'll rarely, if ever, use the Kinect on it at all.

Pre-ordered the PS4 even though the launch titles are underwhelming. Looks like Killzone is the only game I will get initially. Disappointed that inFamous won't be out until next year.

Have no interest in Xbox this round. Planning to pick up Watch Dogs and Arkham Origins for the PC. Expect they will run better on my PC than PS4.

I'm getting those two titles, but uncertain which verson to get - PC, or PS4/XB1. What makes you think the PC will be better?

I'm not challenging your claim, I'm genuinely curious.

Too be honest, I don't have any hard evidence either way. I assumed at the very minimum the load times will be faster of my SSD in my PC versus the PS4 standard HDD. I think you and I have a similar PC set up too, right?

I looked up the required PC specs for Watch Dogs and they do no look very demanding. I think I can get 60fps at near-max settings with my PC where the console versions may be locked at 30fps. Hopefully we'll see some comparisons between the two versions as we get closer to the release dates and make an informed decision.

I am leaning towards getting BF4 on the PS4 since I'm only interested in the SP campaign and could trade in the game when I'm done with it.

-Possible mods (not guaranteed but you never know)
-Better visuals (almost a guarantee)
-External visual boosters like ENB and SweetFX
-Better load times
-Cheaper price (most likely, and cheaper sooner with sales. GMG has 25% off pre-orders right now for instance)

Things like that are why I continue to stick to PC for anything that's multi-platform

The big question mark in the air for me is 3D and frame rate. I can probably live without 1080p if they can get games running at 720p/60/3D. But as long as I can't get 60fps/3D on the console, I'm always going to be leaning towards the PC version....as long as it supports 3D.

Seeing how the console wars are shaking out I'm for sure going deeper into PC gaming until this time next year. This will be the first time I've skipped a launch since Gamecube. That's where I actually paid with my own money. When I go to get a console it will be a PS4, not for any DRM or anything but I like the exclusives they bring. In the meantime I'll upgrade my RAM and sit back and play on the backlog and buy all kinds of Steam/Amazon sale stuff. Got Bulletstorn for like 5 bucks and played through that last weekend. It was fun and looked amazing. Probably run through Singularity next.

PS4 is on pre-order, but won't be giving up on PC gaming either. Xbox One is a possible future purchase, but probably not for quite some time, maybe only if an absolute must have title comes out or when they go to a hardware revision (eg xbox one slim etc),

To be honest, my main issue with the xbox one is the company behind it. I find their arrogance breath-taking and I am in no rush to give them my money. On the other hand, Sony's apparently genuine interest in listening to gamers in order to build a product around what they want, is refreshing.

Word is the XBone is running 3 OS's in virtual machines and has set aside 2CU's, 2 cores, and 3GB RAM for apps and the OS's. Thats an awful lot of bloat for a rig that already needs to code to the metal. Sonys is rumored to only have given 1GB of RAM and 2 cores on the CPU. Both seem to be making the assumption that CPU use is going to drip drastically as time goes on in favor of GPGPU.

Also, DX11.1 elegant and efficient? Easier to use, sure... but from what I've read it's very limiting. Bungie has already been dropping hints that there will be a difference with Destiny at Launch. QD's Sorcerer Demo was also apparently thrown together on PS3 Dev tools and wasn't optimized for the hardware. SOE seems to think they won't have a problem porting PlanetSide 2 (lets wait and see on that one!)

These machines won't be competing with high end Rigs for sure, but I think people are going to be surprised just how powerful they are. A budget PC will not be sufficient, at least not for a few years.
