Dark souls, if you haven't played any of the series, is not really about the story. The combat is the star of these games. The stories, as told by npc characters you encounter, are all pretty cryptic in delivery and in the actual npc encounter itself. Once you find an npc they leave to a new area that youat never find, or you missed the because of various determining factors.

I beat the last boss already once and I've started over with 3 or 4 new characters. For me to get all the npc quests I'm using an online checklist I found. I don't think I completed any quests in that first play.

Does Dark Souls 2 & 3 have the same game save mechanics as Dark Souls 1? The "Start Over" save system I read about in DS1 years ago, pretty much chased me away from trying any games in this series. The reviews I read about DS1 could be summed up with "epic hard, along with frustrating saves". I could definitely see giving 2 & 3 a shot if the save issues were resolved. Also can you pick up play with DS2-3 without missing anything critical from DS-1?

Saves and deaths are different. You quit the game, you log back in at the same place you quit. You die, you move back to the last bonfire you lit. If it was 2 feet away that's where you go back. If it was half a world away, that's where you go. There are also no save files like on typical PC games where you can save every second in a new file. You get 1 file per character and when you die or do something that makes any change, the game saves automatically. It's hard RPG in that regard. You pick up an item, save, you kill an NPC, save, you die, save. You can't revert anything either, once you get one of those auto saves whatever you did is done and you can't change it unless you start from scratch or play different in NG+.

I think all the games use pretty much the same engine. A lot of the same items are in every game, same weapons, armor and most usable items.

There is a challenge to the games, but once you learn how to play in the world it's not as hard as everyone likes to claim.

Picked up Grim Dawn on steam and have been enjoying that. Also been replaying Tomb Raider since the new 21:9 monitor just makes that game a whole new game visually.

They had doom on CDkeys for 41$ CDN today, I figured why not. I also happened to have one hell of a stroke of luck yesterday. I bought a new "be quite" PC case from a guy on kijiji for my nephew's new build and it had 4 brand new samsung 850 evo x 500 gig ssd's inside the box as well as a new WD red 4TB.... all for 120$ lol. I phoned the guy back to tell him all that was still in there and he was like, oh, well I'm selling it for my grandson who's and ungrateful little "bast$#%" keep it all and enjoy In was going to throw it in the garbage!! hahahahaha!!!

so I got to swap out my 240 gig Steam and Origin drives for 500 evo's! and my nephew got a new evo and 2 x 240gig hyper X's for his build.... Man, that was a sweet weekend!! (other diver went in the wifes laptop and the WD red when into my nas server)

Blasting brown notes for 10 years and counting!

Lately I've been mostly on my consoles (Shocking blasphemy I know!), but I have been playing Forza 6 Apex and soon will be playing the new Doom.

Kinda surprising to me is how quickly Battleborn seems to have dropped off the radar. There was a bunch of hype, people loving the beta, huge praise all over Twitter and Twitch about the game when it launched, now it's dead quiet. I checked Twitch earlier today, it had less than 2,800 viewers and was 33rd on the list of games.

For me Battleborn is no where near the game that Borderlands is, the special sauce is missing.

I was watching a Doom PS4 stream and it looked like there was no V-sync (on PS4), maybe they added a setting to unlock it.

Just beat Uncharted 4 tonight, very solid game.

Might pick up Doom PC, not sure yet (curious if I can hit 200 fps using Vulkan, lol).

How long did it take you to finish uncharted 4? I just finished uncharted 3 last night(thought I beat long ago but didn't) and started uncharted 4. I got as far as chapter 3. Graphics are gorgeous already. Liking the story line so far, but the chapters feel shorter.

Very solid game but left me a bit conflicted, it's not as good as I had hoped it would be (my expectations were probably too high).

I saw CDkeys has new Doom PC for $35, so why not? Bought and pre-loaded.

I was going to do console for this one, but then it struck me that Doom is such a PC franchise, and so it made sense. Or at least I talked myself into it.

I thought I read somewhere that Valve was actually planning to add it in and just reissue the whole thing on Steam as the definitive version of HL. I'll scrounge around and see if I can find the link.

Yeah that's where I'll buy as well but I am hearing that the SP is short and I am not that interested in the MP after the beta so still not sure if it's worth the $35.

Being able to play the original Doom with the new weapons is nostalgic but not enough to justify the purchase.

I'll probably fold within the next several hours and buy it (what's there does look like 'over the top' fun).

If you go for it from CDkeys, try promo code DOOM666 for a possible extra discount..? YMMV

Thank you for the code... $32.66.

Guess I'll be playing/streaming Doom tomorrow (might be tonight, goes live at 9pm Pacific).

* Another huge 50gb game (pre-loading now)... 43.8gb download with a ~10gb day one patch
- (not sure what happened but people were claiming there was a 10gb day one patch, but I did not get it).
* I hope SLI is working properly day one (it's not).

Ok, got about an hour in with Doom. Graphics are top notch. Game play is fast and frantic already on Normal. I like the updated version of this game. Feels very smooth for me. For you AMD users out there there is a Driver update for the game already. Holy **** who knew AMD would be on top of a new game release that fast! Overall I am enjoying the game, not much on the story line yet, but it's building.

Same, I played the first level last night before I went to bed. Enjoying it so far. Feels to me like what you'd get if Brutal Doom and Doom 3 had a baby.

I'm loving Doom - so bad-ass and metal. Work is going to be hard today, knowing this game is just a few feet away.

Yeah right. You should play Brutal Doom again.

Though I agree this is like Doom3 and.... 10 years later worth of technical upgrades. That and all-new canned melee kills.

This feels like a slightly slower version of Brutal Doom. Including the melee kills which were in Brutal Doom.

It's basically like they said hey, Brutal Doom is cool let's make it kinda like that.

This is like a combination of those too and a half decent one at that

Doom 2016 is fast and frantic, certainly a twitch shooter (just not as fast as some have been).

It's fun, after a couple hours of gameplay it's very repetitive with not much variance in the enemies (at least so far).

I know this type of game is expected to be repetitive so that's not a knock against it, that's just how it is.

This was my genre of choice back in the day with Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament but I just do not have the same reflexes so I feel a bit less equipped to push the difficulty to the max (playing on default, Hurt Me Plenty).

The game has SLI issues but ID has said it is coming soon. I set mine to Alternate 1 and it is mostly stable at 4k/60 with SLI 980ti OC.

They need to fix the SLI, a few small bugs and... add an HD texture pack since some of the textures are fugly close up (I know I am not meant to pay attention to that while shooting and running for my life).

All-in-all it's a fun, shut your brain off at the door, game that brings back some very nostalgic vibes (and I dig that).
