I'm wanting to take my old PC out of the closet and use it to stream Motocross races in HD to my big screen with a HDMi hookup. It is a system I built about three years ago but doesn't have a video card. It is a Asus P6X58D MB and a i7 960 3.2 ghz chip with 6 gb of ram. One quirk of this motherboard is the sata connectors sit right under the back end of the video card so a longer card can cause clearance issues as I found out when I upgraded to a EVGA GTX-580 and tried to use it in this system a little over a year ago.

Anyway I need a card with HDMi out to put in this system. It won't be used for anything else so I was just curious how beefy of a card will I need and how much memory? If I could find a card under $100 that would be great. Eventually this system will be passed along to one of my sisters. I just don't know what card would be best for this type of use.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Jim

Looks to me like you can easily fit a dual slot card...

Of course it's not like you'll need to just for video playback, even the current inexpensive cards (under $100) will do what you want to do.

Generally speaking the newer AMD cards will out-perform the comparable Nvidia cards under $150.

Newer AMD cards have better power management for low power states too. I would choose something from AMD for this task.

XBL Gamertag- Yrd
PSN - Yerd

Steam - Yrd
