I play right now on a 19x12 res monitor. I have been toying with a 27" 25x14 res monitor. But don't have yet, may have one in the future.

Is there any reason I need a 4gb card over a 2gb card at 19x12 res? I don't play modded skyrim, or any skyrim.

I keep eyeballing these cards and I can't hold out much longer, my wallet is chewing my leg off. I wish I could have gotten a free Metro Last Light code with this card. SC isn't that hot an item to me.

Mods and extra VRAM headroom. If you play anything that you use a lot of mods in, or has visual enhancers (Like ENB injectors or SweetFX for enhanced visuals in any games) then having the extra VRAM would be handy. Besides, what's the price diff? Last I checked it was a $50 difference there abouts.

(Not just Skyrim, they have ENBs for tons of games, and SweetFX as well.)

$80 for the one I'm looking at.

MSI Gaming N770

$400 vs $480 almost no one has the 4G in stock and it might be why it's a little pricier.

Plus about $7 for shipping. Anyone that has the 4g is charging for shipping.

Honestly, $7 for shipping on a $480 card is cheap when you're already dropping that much. I would still say go for the 4gb, even just for the extra headroom alone.

I don't see it the same way. $87 is a big jump for 2g. I'm a penny pincher. I can afford it but I have a hard time justifying that 87 bucks.

It's up to you to choose, clearly, but I still say its worth the extra for the extra RAM, will prevent the need for upgrading sooner. As a penny pincher this should be the best option, it saves you a bit more in the long run. BF3 on Ultra at 1080p can gobble up 1.5gb+ (unmodded). How long will it be before games running maxed take 2gb+? Not long I think, and then that extra headroom of 2 more GB will be useful.

So I bought the damn thing and 2 days later they have a $15 rebate on it. Mother f. If I RMA it and get a new one that's another $6 or $8 for shipping again. Almost pointless to waste the time.

They also switched up the free game. I think I'd rather have Splinter Cell so I'm just going to keep it. Splinter Cell was not a game I had any interest in but the new batman game, I had even LESS interest.

Should have known a Labor Day sale was coming lol. Which one did you go with btw?

I also agree, I kinda wish it was still Splinter Cell for the 780 I'm getting as I still have yet to finish Arkham Asylum or Arkham City yet, but from what I've seen of SC, it looks fun.

Good choice. I wouldn't get anything less than a 4gb 770. Since you said it was about $480, I assume you got the EVGA Superclocked w/ACX Cooler?

MSI gaming. It has one of the quietest coolers available. It was a toss up between that and the Asus DCU. Which has the best temps, I believe. But I was more interested in quieter operation.

29db(MSI) vs 34db and 76c vs 79c(MSI).

The ACX was around 36-38db, so it wasn't on my list.

These are all numbers from TPU, and I don't see any reviews for that cooler on the card in your build. They apparently have 2 different ACX coolers. one that's the size of the card then that extra large thing. I don't know if they have different temps/noise levels.

Oh nevermind, the one in your pic is a completely different PCB.

It's nice to be able to max everything out. I think my next catch will be one of those 27" 1440 monitors. I'm not sure my desk has enough space to fit the monitor and my speakers. I have these boxy, "studio monitor" like speakers. Maybe I'll stick to 24" and just get 2 more to get some peripheral monitors.

Maximum PC October 2013 has a 2X Nvidia 660 Ti versus GTX 780 and 2X Radeon 7790 versus 7970
in a "Put It to the Test" article. The Nvidia results were the pair were a slightly better gaming experience
while the dual AMD cards were very close, but the two cards produced a silent solution.

Just bought a AOC 29" 2550x1080P 2.35:1 monitor, and thinking new video (and move the 6950
over to the htpc).

That's all well and good, but what happens when you want to play a game that hates SLI? then you're stuck running it on a single 660Ti and having to change setting to compensate. SLI is great for the games it plays nicely with, and SLI scales far better than Crossfire. but for a single card solution, you really can't beat the 780. The one I plan to get has been benched against a Titan and the performance diff is 1-2%, for $300 less.

In Yrd's case, the 770 4gb was the best bang for the buck with the least hassle.

I am well aware of the GTX 770 being a bargain compared to the Titan and it's value as a single card solution.

So how many games actually don't get along with SLI and Crossfire? I know of the micro stutter issues.

That I don't know off the top of my head. and the micro stutter is much more prevalent with the AMD cards, but as cool as SLI is and can be, I think most people would prefer a rock solid single card solution.

I'm gonna stick to single cards though I have to wonder if we'll ever see any dual GPU cards once stacked DRAM hits in a few years. A card with two GPUs that use stacked memory could be an SLI killer if the card was extremely powerful.

I would also definetely go for the 4GB card, once the new gen of consoles are out we are going to see a veritable explosion in the VRAM consumption of games, and I would not be suprised at all if in a gen or two we will see GPU's with at least 8-12GB of dedicated VRAM.

That is just my two cents. But for the last half decade most of our PC games have been mainly limited by what can be pressed into a console.

I honestly think the new gen of consoles coming will have a huge impact on pc games as well and should not be underestimated in fact so much that I have held off on upgrading my now mainly 5 yr old comp for this to happen (and I have spent all my available money on AV gear rolleyes.gif )
